Finally watched the first one. Won’t watch again but it’s nice that this generation has a Disney franchise that’s fun
]]>Still haven’t seen the first one but my little brother loves this one so the one star is from him
]]>What a beautiful film. Just when I think Wes Anderson can’t have more beautiful shots he comes and proves me wrong. A great adventure of family, espionage and deceit.
About time Richard Ayode was in a Wes Anderson film. He’s literally perfect for this writing style.
Great concept with great sfx makeup but executed in a slow paced way.
Also all that preparation of setting up Rosaleen to be a strong protagonist only for her to be the damsel in distress at the end is so disappointing.

]]>I’ve seen this musical get a lot of hate and I see where it’s all coming from but come on !!
Starkid has been very hatchetfield central for the last few years and it’s been great don’t get me wrong, but getting a look into this new world is so refreshing. I was so curious to see how the Lang brothers would used starkids new twisted horror style outside of hatchetfield and they didn’t disappoint. This is a great eldritch horror take on the classic fairytale.
Outside of the writing the casting is this show is PHENOMENAL!! Having the roles we are used to reversed and seeing Angela in a mother/older role over the teen we are used to seeing her play in hatchetfield is such a great switch of dynamics. Bryce absolutely shines as Ella and having James play the prince adds a whole other layer of irony to his misogynistic, woman obsessed character.
Seeing Starkid return to their routes with puppets just makes me giddy. They just add such a feeling of love and immersion into this fantasy world and the craftsmanship behind them is one to ire. I could also say the same thing about the props of the show - the practical effects making the dark horror of the tale even more evil. Adding to the immersion is the costumes and wigs. You can really tell the budget for this show was larger than previous projects and a majority of this went into the wigs and costuming as work as dressing the set. The storytelling behind the wigs is something so special. Seeing Ella’s hair go from matted and messy to braids circling her head like a crown completely contrasting the wigs of Justine and Lucy looking prim and proper to the trolls wearing their skin and making their hair dirty and messy- their tight ponytails and buns turning looser, potentially from Putrice and Rancilda putting on their skin suits.
Anyway there is so much more I can say about this musical but I’ll stop rambling now.
God I love Starkid.
Everything about this show is a masterpiece. The camera work, the acting, the sound design. All so so incredible. I laughed, I cried, I just. Everyone needs to watch this.

]]>I don’t think I’ll ever be able to emotionally recover from this.
Bring them down is such a harrowing and intimate portrayal of influence, pride and how far people would go to make their fathers proud.
Christopher Andrew’s put so much heart and soul into these characters, the atmosphere, the lighting and research surrounding Shepherding in Ireland. And it makes the film oh so much more human.
I love when horror movies are so gruesome but don’t take themselves seriously at all.
10/10 will be watching again

]]>The fact it took me so long to watch this is shameful. This movie is so incredible. It’s a great musical adaptation that doesn’t shy away of making it look camp and crazy. It deepens the story of Matilda by giving us such a unique look into Matilda’s mind. The story of the acrobats takes my breath away.
Such a great adaptation of a beloved story.

]]>This film perfectly captures how this man evaded the law for so long, how people questioned and looked down at women in every single aspect of their lives. How they dressed, how they spoke, how they acted. How they Just wanted them to sit there and look pretty. Every man in this film treated women like objects, sexualised them, treated them as possessions. Every single man.
It does a great job drawing parallels of this casual sexism and objectification of women and the way a literal serial killer objectified and wanted these women as possessions - trophies even.
We look at this film set in the 1970s and gawk at how these women are tested and how the cops just turn a blind eye to SA survivors and think “I’m so lucky I didn’t live then” or “I’m happy times have changed” but then we turn on the news.
Everyone should watch this film and be angered. Be upset. Be mad.

]]>This film has been on my watchlist for literal months ! So happy to finally be able to watch it.
The art style of this film is so gorgeous and unique as is the story. Themes of evolution, knowledge and omnipotence are captured greatly in this flushed out fantastical world. The fact that the creators of the film came up with detailed history of the planet and the anatomy of the Draags really goes to show what a labour of love this film really is.

]]>This film has a great balance of camp and gore. The actor who plays art is so great. He fully embodies the lunatic that art is and plays such a comedic yet horrifying character.
Art the clown is so god damn camp
A true cult horror icon
I think this is going to be one of my new favourites. This film blends together modern cinema tropes from chic flics and romcoms with a period piece about the life on Marie Antoinette amazingly.
The balance of parties and joy with the looming pressures of royalty and the impending overthrowing rebellion of the French people just goes to show how great the producers of this film really are.
It builds up such complex characters through costuming, sets and dialogue.
The use of orchestral soundtracking and using songs of modern rock is brilliant !!
You can see the thought behind every single scene, every decision.
It’s refreshing

Whoever decided to make Lydia a lovesick manipulated woman who exploits ghosts for fame and money should be fired
It’s so clear this movie was written by men. Don’t get me wrong the nostalgia and the references back to the original were amazing and seeing the old cast back makes you smile and feel giddy. But the only character that was done justice was Delia!! She was independent and as successful as ever. But even her story line revolved around a man (her late husband). Lydia’s story, even if focused around her daughter, was smothered by her being a lovestruck manipulated puppy to that vile man (I can’t even his name) and Astrid fell head over heels for a boy as soon as they met. This movie is just them both being lovestruck by these two men and them men manipulating this - making them appear weak. Even when rescuing Astrid, Lydia has a moment with Astrid’s father.
The parts of the film that were good were when it was all about the love these woman have for each other and it spanning over all three generations. Seeing Lydia go through with Astrid be what we saw Delia go through with Lydia in the first film drew great parallels between them all, linking them all and showing how alike they all are. Showing how they would risk it all for each other and how all they want to do is provide and protect each other.
Sadly, this plot was diluted by men. It could’ve been SO GOOD !! It could’ve been such a great film of female independence and empowerment !! Yes, this is what the film turned into in the end but they didn’t have to strip away all the power these women had and made them depend on men as a way to achieve this.
The fact it took film school setting this as homework for me to watch this is embarrassing. This film is incredible!! Watching it for the first time while also having to break down all the elements of it really makes me appreciate how much thought was put into every single aspect of this movie. Everything a character said came back at some point to be relevant to the plot. Everything in this film has a purpose and it make it all come together so so well.
Excited to watch the rest now :)
I watched this the other day and keep forgetting I actually watched this film and it wasn’t something I just imagined / hallucinated

]]>The amount of complexity and detail put into this film is incredible
It somehow manages to establish well versed backstories for these three characters while mostly just being conversations in a couple’s living room
Not only that but it introduces a murder case with so many moving parts that on multiple occasions characters bring up occurrences that (as an audience member) you don’t consider
