Also I feel like if Oliver were telling the story (which he is) he would want the campy flourish that is as superficial as he is. Emerald fennel cooked hard with (most of) the script and even harder with the direction - GOAT behaviour.
Yes - the ‘twist’ was perhaps not completely effective but I think that was intentional - the superficiality adds to the depth in my opinion.
