10/10. absolutely brilliant. this is what sci fi films should be.
you can tell denis villeneuve really cares about the story and the characters and wants to do it justice. i think he’s done just that. i couldn’t stop seeing parts of other peak sci-fi/fantasy fiction films in this. it felt like a love letter to the genre.
i cannot get over the world of arrakis. i was completely immersed in it. the dunes were mesmerising. my planet, arrakis is indeed beautiful when the sun is low. the cinematography used to capture this fantastical world was expert. every shot was beautiful. knowing the shot list for part two was as big as a wall is not surprising at ALL. knowing that much work went into it is so gratifying.
now. lets talk about PERFORMANCE. right the casting directors, francine maisler and dixie chassay. can they win some sort of award??? this cast is not just stacked but TALENTED. they fulfilled their roles and then some.
austin butler as na-baron feyd rautha harkonnen. my GOD. just his presence on screen is unsettling, the way he moves, his voice. he changed his accent to sound more like skårsgard which worked perfectly and made him even more harrowing. the fact his stewards eat people? horrific. i love it.
mr chalamet. you’ve done it again. paul atreides is just the role you were meant to play. that “SILENCE!” gave me actual goosebumps. i cannot wait for the third one.
costume also incredible. the reverend mother’s headpiece? florence pugh’s? i love how much detail went into this film. the sound was incredible. MUSIC! music was fantastic. it’s hans zimmer, how could it not.
i need to watch this a second time and ASAP.
“consider what you’re about to do paul atreides”
“SILENCE!”
