- Guarda come dondolo, guarda come dondolo, coooon il twiist 🎶

- Io che sono amante dei road movies, dovevo recuperare assolutamente il "nostro" road movie più famoso al mondo. Quello che è stato precursore di tanti, tantissimi altri famosi simili come Easy Rider, Thelma & Louise e via dicendo.

- Manifesto iconico del boom italiano e maggior rappresentante della commedia agrodolce per eccellenza. Invecchiato malissimo per alcune cose (ma si sa, era tempo suo), ma anche nostalgico e indimenticabile proprio per la sua leggerezza e inno alla libertà. La coppia agli antipodi è fantastica e ben scritta. E anche quest'altro classico nostrano posso depennarlo dalla mia watchlist. Con tutto il bianco e nero ho percepito più sole in questo film che in questo maggio/novembre, LOL. Dovrei togliere le emoticon stagionali nella mia bio e mettere solo pioggia e nuvole, straLOL.

- I'm a lover of road movies, I absolutely had to recover "our" most famous road movie in the world. The one that was the precursor of many, many other famous similar ones like Easy Rider, Thelma & Louise and so on.

- Iconic poster of the Italian boom and greatest representative of the bittersweet comedy par excellence. Aged badly in some ways (but you know, it was its time), but also nostalgic and unforgettable precisely for its lightness and hymn to freedom. The antipodal couple is fantastic and well written. And I can also cross this other Italian classic off my watchlist. With all the black and white I perceived more sun in this film than in this May/November, LOL. I should remove the seasonal emoticons in my bio and only put rain and clouds, straLOL.

- Per festeggiare il mio primo anno su Letterboxd, ho scelto questo corto festaiolo dell'universo Toy Story che neanche sapevo esistesse... Infatti stavo cercando Party central di Monsters & Co. per un rewatch.

- To celebrate my first year on Letterboxd, I chose this festive short from the Toy Story universe that I didn't even know existed... In fact, I was looking for Party central by Monsters & Co. for a rewatch.

- Titolo azzeccato sia per la fuga psicogena che caratterizza la pellicola, sia per noi spettatori che a una certa ci siamo persi nella narrazione. Un po' come quando ti perdi e chiedi informazioni al primo poveraccio che a lì e prova ad aiutarti, ma non ci capisci una mazza peggio di quando hai iniziato e rigiri a vuoto ancora e ancora, LOL.

- Ironia a parte, sapevo che Strade perdute era contorto e non facilissimo da assorbire, ma minchia se è peggio di Mulholland Drive. Almeno il film del 2001 (a parte qualche punto) per alcuni versi ha più una spiegazione lineare, qui invece la faccenda è ancora più intricata. Precursore del film prima citato, anche questo é un doppio viaggio che oscilla tra realtà e immaginazione, personalità multiple e deliri espressi ed inespressi del subconscio umano.

- Non ho provato il senso di stupore che ho vissuto con Mulholland Drive. E infatti volevo mettere un 3 e mezzo, ma non ce l'ho fatta perché alla fine i film di David sono come incubi surrealisti (di gran classe e ottima qualità) resi su pellicola. Sono come quadri che raffigurano cose irrazionali ma tu stai li, affascinato e ti fai la tua idea, stop. Quindi solo da David Lynch accetto questi film criptici o "puzzle". E metto un 4 pieno anche se tiepidino (Mulholland e Velluto blu mi hanno preso molto di più). Anche se ho perso mezz'ora su internet a trovare qualche spiegazione approfondita, con la conclusione di stare più intrappato di prima, LOL (no dai poi ho collegato alcuni punti e ho avuto una visione dell'insieme leggermente più chiara che dirò nella parte spoiler). Comunque Pete è troppo il sosia di Edoardo Donnamaria (quello di Forum e del Grande Fratello) per chi se ne intende anche di trash, LOL. E Patricia Arquette e' semplicemente una DEA. Io me la ricordavo nella serie tv Medium e Boyhood, ma non lo avevo mai vista al culmine della giovinezza e bellezza e mamma mia, qui ha messo in dubbio la mia gay nature, LOL.
Complimentoni anche a Robert Blake che è inquietante che più inquietante non si può. E poi c'è anche Marilyn Manson, OMG.

🚫 PARTE SPOILER 🚫
Lui ha ucciso Renée e poi in carcere ha questo "trasferimento" per sfuggire o elaborare il trauma, con una nuova personalità che rispecchia tutto quello che Fred non è nella vita reale (uomo virile e appetibile, sessualmente eccellente e più sicuro e coraggioso). Anche se poi anche nella realtà parallela, tutto si ripete di nuovo (lui nei guai, altro omicidio e perde di nuovo la sua amata). E l'inseguimento finale quando lui in auto si "risdoppia" è forse perché la realtà illusoria sta collidendo oppure sono le scosse della sedia elettrica nella realtà oggettiva. E l'uomo misterioso è il lato oscuro o la parte primordiale di Fred. Ovviamente questa è la spiegazione più facilotta e abbreviata. Perché alla fine i film di Lynch hanno infinite possibilità di comprensione che solo visione dopo visione, tutto sembra più chiaro. O forse non lo sarà mai.

- A fitting title both for the psychogenic escape that characterizes the film, and for us viewers who at a certain point got lost in the narration. A bit like when you get lost and ask for information to the first poor guy who es by and tries to help you, but you don't understand a thing worse than when you started and you go round and round in circles, LOL.

- Irony aside, i knew that Lost Highway was convoluted and not very easy to absorb, but damn if it's worse than Mulholland Drive. At least the 2001 film (except for a few points) in some ways has a more linear explanation, here instead the matter is even more intricate. A precursor to the film mentioned above, this is also a double journey that oscillates between reality and imagination, multiple personalities and expressed and unexpressed delusions of the human subconscious.

- I didn't feel the sense of amazement that i experienced with Mulholland Drive. And in fact I wanted to give it a 3 and a half, but I couldn't because in the end David's films are like surrealist nightmares (very classy and excellent quality) rendered on film. They are like paintings that depict irrational things but you stay there, fascinated and you make up your own mind, stop. So only from David Lynch do I accept these cryptic or "puzzle" films. And I give it a full 4 even if it's lukewarm (Mulholland and Blue Velvet got me much more). Even though I wasted half an hour on the internet finding some in-depth explanation, with the conclusion that I was more trapped than before, LOL (no come on then I connected some dots and i had a slightly clearer vision of the whole which i will say in the spoiler part). Anyway Pete is too much of an Edoardo Donnamaria lookalike (the one from Forum and Big Brother) for those who also know about trash, LOL. And Patricia Arquette is simply a GODDESS. I ed her in the TV series Medium and Boyhood, but I had never seen him at the height of his youth and beauty and my goodness, here he questioned my gay nature, LOL.
Compliments also Robert Blake who is disturbing as disturbing as can be. And then there's also Marilyn Manson, OMG.

🚫 SPOILER PART 🚫
He killed Renée and then in prison he has this "transfer" to escape or process the trauma, with a new personality that reflects everything that Fred is not in real life (Virile and desirable man, sexually excellent and more confident and courageous). Even if then also in the parallel reality, everything repeats itself again (he's in trouble, another murder and he loses his beloved again). And the final chase when he "doubles himself" in the car is perhaps because the illusory reality is colliding or are the shocks of the electric chair in objective reality. And the mysterious man is the dark side or the primordial part of Fred. Obviously this is the easiest and shortest explanation. Because in the end Lynch's films have infinite possibilities of understanding that only viewing after viewing, everything seems clearer. Or maybe it never will be.

- L'ho visto solo ed esclusivamente per Hilary Swank.

- Horror sovrannaturale a tinte religiose che sta tra il quasi buono e il guilty pleasure. Poteva essere più inquietante ma resta in superficie e la storia oscilla tra momenti mezzi riusciti ed altri che si avvicinano al cringe, con esiti alquanto prevedibili.

- Il tema (sovrannaturale a parte) tra l'altro è divisivo, quindi atei e credenti tirate le vostre somme e fate un po' voi, LOL.

- I only saw it for Hilary Swank.

- Supernatural horror with religious overtones that is somewhere between good and guilty pleasure. It could have been more disturbing but it remains superficial and the story oscillates between half-successful moments and others that are close to cringe, with rather predictable outcomes.

- The theme (supernatural aside) is also divisive, so atheists and believers draw your own conclusions and do your own thing, LOL.

- David Cronenberg + Stephen King = Combo pazzesca. E già con questo incipit di base c'erano tutte le premesse per un film sulla carta fortissimo. E invece...

- Buono ma non buonissimo o eccezionale. L'ho trovato tiepidamente valido ma anche abbastanza sottotono. Non sono neanche arrivato a tre e mezzo che per me è già un voto importante. È come se il film va veloce e non si prende i suoi tempi, mentre avrei preferito un minutaggio leggermente più lungo per approfondire meglio le dinamiche (e detto da me che sono amante delle durate comfort fa strano).

- Scommetto che da questo romanzo si poteva ricavare molto di più. Sarà che ogni altro adattamento che ho visto di King mi ha soddisfatto. Vabbè comunque mi fa fatto piacere recuperarlo, questo sì.

- David Cronenberg + Stephen King = Crazy Combo. And already with this basic incipit there were all the premises for a film that was on paper very strong. And instead...

- Good but not very good or exceptional. I found it tepidly valid but also quite subdued. I didn't even get to three and a half which for me is already an important vote. It's as if the film goes fast and doesn't take its time, while I would have preferred a slightly longer duration to better explore the dynamics (and coming from me who am a lover of comfort durations it sounds strange).

- I bet there was much more that could have been done with this novel. Maybe it's because every other adaptation I've seen by King has satisfied me. Oh well in any case I was happy to recover it, that's for sure.

- È stata una deviazione sorprendente Easy Rider, perché non era nella mia watchlist mensile. Quando ho letto tutto quello che c'era da sapere, la curiosità mi è salita e quindi...

- Un road movie in motocicletta che ha segnato la fine e l'inizio di una nuova era. Il punto altissimo del film è la colonna sonora a tutto rock che accompagna il viaggio dei nostri due protagonisti. Ho amato talmente tanto quelle sequenze che se tutto il film fosse stato così (canzoni e solo tratta) mi sarebbe andato bene lo stesso. Amo la musica, i road movie e il vento tra i capelli, quindi ero già di parte.

- Ma dietro questa compilation rock c'è anche una critica truce al bigottismo che imperversava in America negli anni 60. La cosa che mi è piaciuta maggiormente è che all'apparenza sembra un film tutto macho, drug, sex and rock n' roll. Ma poi il discorso diventa così ampio che chiunque comunità discriminata fin dall'alba dei tempi può rivedersi, rendendo il concetto più universale. Un road movie sorprendente e scomodo che rieccheggia ancora oggi nella sconsolata e incerta realtà che stiamo vivendo tutt'ora. E sì, ogni tanto cambiare strada all'ultimo momento può essere un bene per me. Grazie a @dimierosimo per avermi invogliato a recuperarlo all'ultimo momento.

- Easy Rider was a surprising detour, because it wasn't on my monthly watchlist. When I read everything there was to know, I was curious and so...

- A road movie on a motorcycle that marked the end and the beginning of a new era. The high point of the film is the all-rock soundtrack that accompanies the journey of our two protagonists. I loved those sequences so much that if the whole film had been like that (songs and only the track) I would have been fine with it anyway. I love music, road movies and the wind in my hair, so I was already biased.

- But behind this rock compilation there is also a grim criticism of the bigotry that was rampant in America in the 60s. The thing I liked most is that it seems like an all-macho, drug, sex and rock n' roll film. But then the discussion becomes so broad that anyone from a community that has been discriminated against since the dawn of time can relate to it, making the concept more universal. A surprising and uncomfortable road movie that still echoes today in the disconsolate and uncertain reality we are still living. And yes, sometimes changing direction at the last moment can be good for me. Thanks to @dimierosimo for encouraging me to recover it at the last moment.

- Mi ha sempre incuriosito questo biopic della antropologa e zoologa Dian Fossey, che dedicò anni e ione per studiare e difendere i gorilla africani dalle grinfie dei bracconieri. Finalmente ho avuto modo di recuperarlo.

- Sono un animalista e amo questo tipo di storie. Poi perché c'è Sigourney Weaver che dove la metti metti (sia nello spazio che nella foresta africana) è sempre cazzuta e bravissima (forse qui tra le sue migliori prove).

- Per certi versi mi ha ricordato La mia Africa. Fatto sta che Gorilla nella nebbia è affascinante e avventuroso, ben recitato e con un anima grande ed è un peccato che non se ne parli abbastanza o che sia rimasto nell'ombra. Posso dire tranquillamente che è diventato senza problemi uno dei miei biopic preferiti in assoluto.

- I've always been intrugued me by this biopic of anthropologist and zoologist Dian Fossey, who dedicated years and ion to studying and defending African gorillas from the clutches of poachers. I finally had the chance to recover it.

- I'm an animal rights activist and I love this type of story. Then because there's Sigourney Weaver who wherever you put her (both in space and in the African forest) is always badass and very good (perhaps here among her best performances).

- In some ways it reminded me of Out of Africa. The fact is that Gorillas in the Mist is fascinating and adventurous, well acted and with a great soul and it's a shame that it isn't talked about enough or that it has remained in the shadows. I can safely say that it has easily become one of my favorite biopics ever.

- Non so se sia stato abbinato a un classico Disney (in questo caso essendo del 2010 dovrebbe essere Rapunzel) oppure sia uscito singolarmente.

- I don't know if it's paired with a Disney classic (in this case, being from 2010, it should be Rapunzel) or if it came out individually.

- Mi è sempre mancato e mai recuperato fino d'ora per mia scelta. Non perché mi spaventava l'idea (visto che sono uno stomaco forte con questo genere). Ma forse perché l'ho sempre visto come un film superstizioso o scomodo che ho sempre preferito procrastinare, LOL. Ma sapevo che questo momento prima poi sarebbe arrivato, e quindi eccoci qui...

- L'esorcista va almeno visto una volta nella vita. Se sei un amante del cinema, o la persona più curiosa in assoluto. È grazie a questo film sel'horror è stato preso come genere serio (portandolo ad essere protagonista agli Oscar del 74 con 10 nomination). Peccato che la categoria miglior trucco sia stata istituita solo nel 1982, altrimenti qui vinceva a mani basse. Gran lavorone non solo di make-up ma anche di effetti speciali e sonoro. Un esperienza realistica e terrificante che i miei mi hanno spoilerato innumerevoli volte (insieme ai loro racconti su quanto il film li abbia traumatizzati in giovane età, LOL). Quindi anche se il finale mi è stato spoilerato, mi sono comunque lasciato suggestionare e affascinare dall'ultima parte (o terzo atto) che come tutti ormai sappiamo è d'antologia cinematografica. Invece alcuni punti mi hanno annoiato (la conversazione tra l'ispettore e il prete è troppo lunga ad esempio) ma forse ero troppo bramoso di arrivare nei momenti più strong e volevo che il film andasse il più veloce possibile.

- Bravissime Ellen Burstyn (che ho già amato in Requiem for a dream) e Linda Blair (la sua vita professionale e anche personale è degno sequel di questo film, LOL) che tra infortuni alla schiena nelle scene clou e superstizioni varie, hanno fatto anche loro la storia. Forse è un film che andava visto proprio in quel periodo lì, perché dopo tutti questi fac simili (riusciti o mediocri) e parodie varie che abbiamo visto, l'effetto "novità" è completamente sfumato rispetto ad allora. Ma c'è stato un prima e un dopo questo film, ne va dato atto. Ne devono essere riconoscenti l'horror e il cinema stesso.
E se devo dirla tutta, la parte che mi ha fatto più senso è stata quella dell'angiografia alla carotide, OMG.
A seguire, le curiosità del film che sono più HORROR del film stesso, LOL:

BACKSTAGE:
- Può far sorridere il fatto che la giovanissima Linda Blair (appena quattordicenne al tempo delle riprese) fu creduta davvero la reincarnazione di Satana; più inquietanti invece le minacce di morte che ricevette da fanatici cattolici.

- Ben presto si iniziò a vociferare di una concatenazione di lutti che durante la produzione colpì almeno dodici tra le persone che parteciparono alle riprese. Solo alcuni di questi tragici eventi sono collegati in modo “plausibile”: la morte di Vasiliki Maliaros, l’attrice che impersonò la madre di Padre Karras (Jason Miller), quella del bambino neonato dell’assistente cameraman e di uno dei guardiani notturni del set.

- Il primo incidente significativo accadde dopo appena due giorni di riprese quando a causa di un cortocircuito, un incendio distrusse quasi interamente gli interni della casa dei protagonisti, risparmiando solo la camera da letto di Regan, (Linda Blair) e causando, oltre a un rallentamento dei lavori, anche qualcosa come 200.000 dollari di danni.

- Ellen Burstyn fu tirata indietro troppo forte da un cavo metallico tanto da rompersi il coccige; poi l’urlo che lancia nel corso del film e che fa gelare il sangue è assolutamente reale. Addirittura Friedkin una volta sparò vicino all’orecchio di Jason Miller per ottenere dall’attore una reazione spontanea.

- Scherzi a parte, nonostante la cattiveria che aleggiava sul film, nonostante le coincidenze e alcune delle strane morti o perfino il grande incendio, un male “vero”, proveniente dal mondo reale, si era insinuato sul set de L’Esorcista. Paul Bateson era un radiografo che diede un piccolo contributo al comparto tecnologico del film. Nel 1979, Bateson fu condannato per l’omicidio del giornalista cinematografico Addison Verrill.
Ma non c’è fine all’orrore: questo è certo, ma ciò che è più disturbante è che l’uomo avrebbe potuto essere un serial killer, perché durante il processo i pubblici ministeri e la polizia lo accusarono di essere coinvolto nelle morti di altri omosessuali, delle quali si vantava mentre era in prigione. Per questo motivo Bateson è considerato un serial killer nonostante le prove non lo abbiano mai confermato.

- Linda Blair riprese il ruolo sia nel sequel del 77, che nella parodia Riposseduta del 1990 con Leslie Nielsen.

- I've always missed it and never recovered until now by choice. Not because the idea scared me (since I have a strong stomach with this genre). But maybe because I always saw it as a superstitious or uncomfortable film that I always preferred to procrastinate, LOL. But I knew that this moment would come sooner or later, and so here we are...

- The Exorcist must be seen at least once in a lifetime. If you are a movie lover, or the most curious person ever. It is thanks to this film that horror was taken as a serious genre (leading it to be a protagonist at the 74 Oscars with 10 nominations). Too bad that the best makeup category was established only in 1982, otherwise here it would have won hands down. Great work not only in makeup but also in special effects and sound. A realistic and terrifying experience that my parents spoiled for me countless times (along with their stories about how much the film traumatized them at a young age, LOL). So even if the ending was spoiled for me, I still let myself be influenced and fascinated by the last part (or third act) which as we all know is a cinematic anthology. Instead, some points bored me (the conversation between the inspector and the priest is too long for example) but maybe I was too eager to get to the strongest moments and I wanted the film to go as fast as possible.

- Very good Ellen Burstyn (who I already loved in Requiem for a dream) and Linda Blair (her professional and personal life is a worthy sequel to this film, LOL) who between back injuries in the key scenes and various superstitions, also made history. Maybe it's a film that should have been seen right in that period, because after all these facsimiles (successful or mediocre) and various parodies that we have seen, the "novelty" effect has completely faded compared to then. But there was a before and after this film, we must acknowledge that. Horror and cinema itself must be grateful for that.
And if I have to be honest, the part that made the most sense to me was the carotid angiography, OMG.

Next, the curiosities of the film that are more HORROR than the film itself, LOL:

BACKSTAGE:
- It may make you smile that the very young Linda Blair (just fourteen at the time of filming) was believed to be the reincarnation of Satan; more disturbing instead were the death threats she received from Catholic fanatics.

- Soon there were rumors of a chain of deaths that during production affected at least twelve of the people who took part in filming. Only a few of these tragic events are connected in a “plausible” way: the death of Vasiliki Maliaros, the actress who played the mother of Father Karras (Jason Miller), that of the newborn baby of the assistant cameraman and one of the night watchmen on the set.

- The first significant incident occurred after just two days of filming when due to a short circuit a fire almost entirely destroyed the interior of the protagonists' house, sparing only Regan's bedroom (Linda Blair) and causing, in addition to a slowdown in the work, also something like 200,000 dollars in damages.

- Ellen Burstyn was pulled back too hard by a metal cable so much so that she broke her coccyx; then the scream she lets out during the film and which makes your blood run cold is absolutely real. Friedkin even once shot near Jason Miller's ear to get a spontaneous reaction from the actor.

- Jokes aside, despite the evil that hovered over the film, despite the coincidences and some of the strange deaths or even the big fire, a "real" evil coming from the real world had crept onto the set of The Exorcist. Paul Bateson was an X-ray technician who made a small contribution to the film's technological department. In 1979, Bateson was convicted of murdering film journalist Addison Verrill.
But there is no end to the horror: that much is certain, but what is more disturbing is that the man could have been a serial killer, because during the trial the prosecutors and the police accused him of being involved in the deaths of other homosexuals, which he bragged about while in prison. For this reason Bateson is considered a serial killer despite the evidence never confirmed it.

- Linda Blair reprised the role in both the 77 sequel and the 1990 parody "Repossessed" with Leslie Nielsen.

- E per il filone "Camouflage ed equivoci", mi mancava questo cult dell'82 di Sydney Pollack candidato a 10 Oscar e vincitore di uno.

- Credo che siano un po' troppo tutte queste nomination, però Tootsie è sempre una commedia di ferro ed è scritto magnificamente. Ci sono battute che mi sono rimaste impresse e quando è così (almeno per me) vuol dire che allora l'obiettivo è stato raggiunto. Affronta la parità dei sessi con schiettezza e ironia e risulta anche attuale e fresco a distanza dei suoi 43 anni. È impreziosito da un irresistibile Dustin Hoffman che è accompagnato da un altrettanto irresistibile Bill Murray. Non capisco invece l'Oscar a Jessica Lange che, sinceramente, non ho trovato tutta questa grande prova meritevole dell'ambita statuetta.

- Anche se preferisco altri film del genere come A qualcuno piace caldo o Mrs. Doubtfire (e Robin Williams più bravo di Dustin a mio avviso), a Tootsie gli si può comunque riconoscere il suo status di commedia brillante e arguta che non ha ancora perso il suo smalto e brio effervescente.

- And for the "Camouflage and misunderstandings", genre I was missing this 1982 cult film by Sydney Pollack, nominated for 10 Oscars and winner of one.

- I think it's a bit too much all these nominations, but Tootsie is still a strong comedy and it's beautifully written. There are lines that have stuck with me and when that's the case (at least for me) it means that the goal has been achieved. It addresses gender equality with candor and irony and it also seems current and fresh despite its 43 years. It is embellished by an irresistible Dustin Hoffman who is accompanied by an equally irresistible Bill Murray. I don't understand the Oscar given to Jessica Lange, who, honestly, I didn't find all this great performance worthy of the coveted statuette.

- Even though I prefer other films of the genre like Some Like It Hot or Mrs. Doubtfire (and Robin Williams is better than Dustin in my opinion), Tootsie can still be recognized as a brilliant and witty comedy that has not yet lost its shine and sparkling verve.

- Avevo questo cortometraggio sotto il naso da davvero tanto tempo e finalmente recupero anche questa mancanza.

Forse poteva essere ancora più ambizioso e meglio pensato, ma posso dire che... Va benissimo così! Quando si pensa al classico film SCI-FI, viene subito in mente un polpettone serio. Mickey 17 invece è una mosca bianca tra i suoi simili, in quanto presenta una narrazione interessante e piena di temi attuali e cari al regista: piramidi sociali, ambientalismo, dualita' e potere. Ma lo fa con black humour satirico e intelligente che alleggerisce e rinfresca i suoi 137 minuti (tra i più veloci che ho visto da tanto tempo a questa parte). Mi ha preso tutto il tempo (e non succedeva da tanto) e ho apprezzato tanto la narrazione voice over e soprattutto Pattinson (non ho visto abbastanza suoi film, ma qui ha primeggiato alla grande). Mark Ruffalo ormai fa lo stesso ruolo, ossia quello del cazzone, LOL (dopo Poor Things) e Toni Collette ovunque sta e' come il parmigiano sulla pasta: sempre perfetta.

- Un granello di Parasite che incontra Arrival e un po' Nolan/Kubrick zero sbatti in versione Futurama/Rick and Morty. Di sicuro non sarà stato rivoluzionario o diventerà un cult influente con il tempo, ma anche qui posso dire che... Va benissimo così!

Mark Ruffalo now plays the same role, that of the dickhead, LOL (after Poor Things) and Toni Collette is like parmesan on pasta wherever she is: always perfect.

- Finalmente recupero anche io il primo grande successo cinematografico del 2025 (almeno qui da noi per via della distribuzione). Allora non ho visto ne il film del 22 né l'altro ancora, quindi mi approccio per la prima volta a questa leggendaria storia gotica con questo remake di Robert Eggers (di lui finora ho visto solo The VVitch).

- Per quando riguarda l'estetica è PAUROSO. Scenografia, costumi e fotografia (aggiungo anche la colonna sonora che anche lei da soddisfazioni) sono incredibili e suggestivi. Anche il cast non è da meno, con il confermato e istrionico (e aggiungo irriconoscibile) Bill Skarsgard e una Lily-Rose Depp che è stata abbastanza divisiva, ma a me è piaciuta. Ha un talento drammatico già notevole e con un po' più di esperienza, la figlia del mitico Johnny sicuramente avrà un'ottima carriera davanti a sé (e poi in costume ci sta molto bene e mi ha fatto ricordare Keira Knightley in alcuni momenti). Quindi confezionato divinamente e con alcune sequenze che sono dirette con maestria ed estro artistico delizioso. Anche se...

- L'ho trovato ridondante e freddino. Mi piace che il film si prende i suoi tempi, che non sia spaventoso tutto il tempo ma invece è la tensione a primeggiare. Però la seconda parte sembra come rigirare su se stessa e il mio coinvolgimento non era al massimo. È come il detto "È bello ma non balla". Nel senso che esteticamente si avvicina quasi alla perfezione, però lo svolgimento (o nucleo) scricchiola un po', con la parte centrale che si allunga decisamente troppo e il finale che doveva essere più di effetto e invece é quello che va più veloce (anche se ho letto dei tagli e di una versione di tre ore di prossima uscita). E momenti in cui è lo sbadiglio a prevalere più che l'interesse stesso. Poteva essere un gran 4 e mezzo/ o 5 pieno a sorpresa, ma invece si becca un 4 tiepido e politico (almeno questo dai). Il suo fascino ce l'ha, difetti a parte, e questo non si discute. Comunque che gran voglia di Halloween, LOL. Per il fatto poi che l'ho visionato in questa giornata insolita e piovosa di maggio, quindi nostalgia canaglia che ci sta tutta.

- I finally get my first big movie hit of 2025 (at least here because of the distribution). So I haven't seen the 22nd movie or the other one yet, so I'm approaching this legendary gothic story for the first time with this remake by Robert Eggers (so far I've only seen The VVitch).

- As for the aesthetics, it's SCARY. The sets, costumes and photography (I'll also add the soundtrack which is also satisfying) are incredible and suggestive. - I found it redundant and cold. I like that the film takes its time, that it is not scary all the time but instead the tension prevails. However, the second part seems like it is turning on itself and my involvement was not at its maximum. It is like the saying "It is beautiful but it does not dance". In the sense that aesthetically it is almost perfect, but the development (or core) creaks a bit, with the central part that stretches out decidedly too much and the ending that should have been more effective and instead is the one that goes faster (although i've read about cuts and a three-hour version coming out soon). And moments in which it is the yawn that prevails more than the interest itself. It could have been a great 4 and a half / or a full 5 as a surprise, and instead it gets a lukewarm and political 4 (at least that). It has its charm, flaws aside, and that is beyond discussion. Anyway, what a great desire for Halloween, LOL. Also, because I watched it on this unusual and rainy day in May, so it's a real nostalgia.

- Da tempo non vedevo film ad high tension come questo. Peccato sia fuori stagione, perché quando c'è la neve e Stephen King di mezzo, possiamo essere sicuri che è sempre una storia che lascia il segno.

Affronta temi della terza età con ironia, delicatezza e intelligenza (e non solo tarda età, con un'incursione brillante anche sul disagio giovanile).

- Molto carino e sorretto da una straordinaria June Squibb (avrebbe meritato una nomination nei premi principali) che vale tutto il film. E Malcolm McDowell (l'Alex DeLarge di Arancia Meccanica) che dopo Voltare Pagina con Jane Fonda fa sempre il ruolo del pezzo di merda, mi stende troppo. Comunque ci metterei la firma (ma non solo io) se riuscissi a invecchiare come Thelma.

- Toro scatenato è un film scomodo. Nel senso che il suo personaggio è così tossico, respingente e indifendibile che si fa difficoltà nell'empatizzare fino in fondo. Personaggio poi realmente esistito quello del pugile irascibile e paranoico, nonché campione mondiale dei pesi medi, Jake LaMotta.

- Anche gli anti eroi difficili e fallibili devono avere un film tutto loro dove splendere nella loro oscurità. E questo classico di Scorsese con un De Niro trasformista al massimo inarrivabile (e giustamente premiato con Oscar e Golden Globe), colpisce forte come i pugni incassati dal nostro guerriero autodistruttivo.

- Ma alla fine lui mi piace pensarlo come questo sport:
Controverso perché la boxe per quanto mi riguarda è uno sport violento che, disciplina a parte, non ha niente altro di utile e necessario (anche se i film sul genere mi apionano).
Spigoloso e brutale, tra sangue versato e ferite più nell'animo che all'esterno.
Un cane randagio già messo a combattere troppo presto, nonostante il rapporto con il fratello fin troppo paziente.
Anche per lo stesso LaMotta non sarà stato facile raccontarsi nella sua biografia (approvando così questo film), senza sconti e censure. Un film sul ring (e le cicatrici che porta fuori) crudo e sincero, che a fine visione (grazie anche alla potenza e l'amarezza della scena finale) lascia con il magone e tanto di cui pensare.

- Insieme a Nuovo cinema paradiso e La vita è bella, 8 1/2 è il film italiano più celebrato e conosciuto al mondo, presente in ogni lista straniera dei miglior film di sempre.

- Ne ho approfittato anche io della sua recente aggiunta su Netflix per recuperarlo e... Sorry not sorry, non mi ha entusiasmato. Riconosco il suo significato, il suo essere "un film dentro un film", il significato dei sogni che collidono con la realtà e il modo geniale in cui Fellini in un periodo della sua vita fa un film, intitolandolo 8 1/2 solo perché è effettivamente il numero del suo ottavo lungometraggio (includendo quelli co-diretti con altri registi) e perché non ha niente da raccontare, vittima di un blocco creativo e fa: "Ok, non ho la storia, e questo è il film". Però mio de gustibus, non sono riuscito a farmi coinvolgere e in alcune parti l'ho trovato, ahimè, noioso e troppo straniante. Ho preferito di gran lunga, facendo anche meno fatica, La dolce vita. L'ho visto con la febbre a 38 e nonostante ciò quello l'ho apprezzato molto di più. È il terzo film che recupero del regista, insieme ad Amarcord, e per ora il mio preferito resta quello dove c'è la famosa frase "Marcello, come hereee".

- Detto ciò, le quattro stellette (anche se freddine) le aggiungo tranquillamente. L'inizio è bellissimo (Lady Gaga, adesso ho capito quella parte nel video di 911) e Quentin, allora il tuo leggendario twist di Pulp Fiction non è tutta farina del tuo sacco. Secondo film preferito di Martin Scorsese nella sua lista dei 15 favorite movies.
Sandra Milo perfetta per la sua Carla e Claudia Cardinale era di una bellezza folgorante.

- Devo darmi qualche pizzicotto per rendermene conto. Perché ancora non riesco a credere di aver finalmente recuperato "IL" film statunitense numero uno, il più importante e il più osannato. Insieme a Via col vento, Il mago di Oz, Casablanca e Biancaneve fa parte della top 5 intoccabile della vecchia Hollywood.

- Premetto che l'ho recuperato per curriculum, perché a me i biopic su personaggi politici o presidenti NON piacciono affatto, o meglio dire non sono proprio il mio genere. All'inizio infatti ho pensato "oddio sarà un macigno". Adesso capisco che Nolan ha attinto anche un po' qui per il suo Oppenheimer ed ecco perché avevo paura (se volete approfondire, recuperatevi la mia review di Oppenheimer). Invece andando avanti, il film non mi è pesato come avevo pensato, anche se comunque l'ho sempre seguito abbastanza "distaccato" o con la freddezza del caso, visto che, come detto prima, non è per niente il mio genere di film.

- Mi è piaciuto il mistero e il simbolo di Rosabella. Poi ho pensato " Orson Welles qui aveva 25 anni quando ha interpretato (e diretto) questo film". E la maggior parte dei 25enni ancora non sa che cereali comprare per il latte (anche se all'epoca i ventenni sembravano già 40enni in tutto e per tutto). Quindi solo che gran CHAPEAU!
Il mio voto (qui ha giocato molto la mia soggettività) era un 4. Ma poi se l'ho già messo ad Oppenheimer (una delle mie graziate più grandi di Letterboxd) allora qui mezza stelletta in più perché l'ho retto molto di più rispetto al film del 2023 (ma questo è un mio paragone personale in quanto come genere e similitudini). Poi perché ne riconosco la grandezza e l'influenza, essendo coraggioso, smisuratamente ambizioso per l'epoca e attualissimo ancora oggi (e il finale mi è piaciuto molto). E anche questa gran lacuna l'ho colmata e sono super proud myself. Bene così.

- I'll start by saying that I recovered it for my CV, because I do NOT like biopics about political figures or presidents at all, or rather they are not really my genre. In fact, at first I thought "oh God, it will be a boulder". Now I understand that Nolan also drew a bit from here for his Oppenheimer and that's why I was afraid (if you want to know more, recover my review of Oppenheimer). Instead, going forward, the film did not weigh on me as I had thought, even if I always followed it quite "detached" or with the necessary coldness, given that, as I said before, it is not at all my genre of film.

- I liked the mystery and the symbol of Rosabella. Then I thought "Orson Welles here was 25 when he made (and directed) this movie". My vote (my subjectivity played a lot here) it was a 4. But then if i already gave it to Oppenheimer (one of my biggest graces of Letterboxd) then here half a star more because I held it much more than the 2023 film (but this is my personal comparison as far as genre and similarities) and then because they recognize its greatness and influence, being courageous, immensely ambitious for its time and still relevant (and i really liked the ending). And i also filled this big gap and I'm super proud myself. Good like this.

- Che sorpresa! Davvero non mi aspettavo che nella filmografia del regista italoamericano ci fosse una cosa del genere. Conoscendo molti (e alcuni visti) suoi lavori seri o pesanti, questo film si discosta dagli altri nella sua leggerezza grottesca da black comedy e sta lì, nascosto e non celebrato abbastanza (nonostante sia comunque un piccolo cult). Mi ha divertito e preso parecchio, sbloccando così un altro film notturno preferito e forse uno dei film degli anni 80 più sorprendenti e belli che abbia mai visto.

- Forse è un po' troppo too much e ai limiti dell'assurdo, ma è così divertente che poi, in fondo, non mi posso lamentare troppo. Poi visto di sabato sera inoltrato altra mia idea geniale. Ed è un motivo valido per essere rimasto a casa e non essere nei panni del protagonista LOL.

It entertained me and got me a lot, thus unlocking another favorite late-night film and perhaps one of the most surprising and beautiful films of the 80s that I have ever seen.

- Pharrell è talentuoso, prezzemolino e contagioso. E questo biopic rispecchia per filo e per segno questi tre aggettivi. È solare e frizzante, colorato e vibrante. Di sicuro non sta ai livelli di Better Man o Rocket Man, ma è comunque meglio di Back To Black della Winehouse o I Wanna Dance With Somebody di Whitney Houston per intenderci. Si apprezza l'idea e il tono scanzonato e intimo ed è pienamente nel suo stile.

- E poi io che sono un grande amante della musica anni 2000, questo è stato il mio rifugio. Vedere quella sequenza delle sue hit prodotte (da I'm Slave 4 U di Britney a Say Something di Mariah, da Gwen Stefani per poi are a Justin Timberlake e Madonna) mi ha gasato di brutto. - In the "Biopic let's make it weird" series, after Robbie Williams', that crazy guy Pharrell WILLIAMS (ahem, he also gets better like this LOL) tells his own story in a... LEGO version.

- Pharrell is talented, parsley-like and contagious. And this biopic reflects these three adjectives to the letter. It's sunny and bubbly, colorful and vibrant. It's certainly not on the level of Better Man or Rocket Man, but it's still better than Winehouse's Back To Black or Whitney Houston's I Wanna Dance With Somebody, to be clear. The idea and the light-hearted and intimate tone are appreciated and it's fully in his style.

- And then I'm a big fan of 2000s music, this was my refuge. Seeing that sequence of his hits produced (from I'm Slave 4 U by Britney to Say Something by Mariah, from Gwen Stefani to Justin Timberlake and Madonna) really got me going. And in the meantime I'll give you my top 5 Pharrell list:

- Sapevo che era intricato e quindi non mi aspettavo una robina di facile comprensione. Poi la durata è perfetta e quindi ho pensato "siccome ho poco tempo, recuperiamo Persona che è un altro colosso della settima arte". Impegnativo?...

- ... Minchia che trip assurdo che è. Immagino David Lynch da giovane che lo avrà consumato peggio dei porno e ha detto "What a fuck, ci farò una carriera con questo genere dell'assurdo". E in effetti c'è Lynch, ma anche Hitchcock. Innanzitutto, posso affermare che questo è il film in bianco e nero DEFINITIVO. Perché solo così può esistere e solo così può racchiudere la freddezza, il distacco e la confusione dell'opera. Ogni inquadratura è superlativa, artistica e pensata così bene, ma così bene che parlano già solo le immagini più delle parole.

- In definitiva, questo film è come una seduta di ipnosi. Proprio il ciondolo che oscilla e che può suggestionare la mente, portandoti a svariati scenari. Perché alla fine per come si cerchi invano di inquadrarla, questa pellicola gira come una trottola o è come il gatto che cade sempre in piedi. Perché ci sta così bene ogni significato plausibile (da quello filosofico a quello sessuale, a quello psicologico o anche addirittura a quello onirico o politico) che sembra come farti il gesto dell'ombrello e scappare a gambe levate con infinita classe e abile mastria e disinvoltura. E tu rimani lì anche quando il ciondolo ha smesso di girare, come se hai vissuto un sogno che ti riguarda o che non ti riguarda affatto. Ma nella sua incomprensione diabolicamente dualistica e glaciale indifferenza, è cinema all'ennesimissima potenza e questo non si discute. Poi per il resto ci vorranno altri rewatch o altre vite per poter davvero assimilare il tutto. E questa più che chiamarla confusione, è un illusione che sfiora davvero la magia.

PS. Se fosse uscito nei giorni nostri, Naomi Watts e Jessica Chastain sarebbero state perfette.

- I knew it was intricate and so I wasn't expecting something easy to understand. Then the length is perfect and so I thought "since I have little time, let's catch up on Persona which is another colossus of the seventh art". Challenging?...

- ... Damn what an absurd trip it is. I imagine David Lynch as a young man who consumed it worse than porn and said "What the fuck, I'll make a career out of this absurd genre". And in fact there is Lynch, but also Hitchcock. First of all, I can say that this is the DEFINITIVE black and white film. Because only in this way can it exist and only in this way can it enclose the coldness, detachment and confusion of the work. Every shot is superlative, artistic and thought out so well, but so well that the images alone speak more than words.

- Ultimately, this film is like a hypnosis session. Just the pendant that swings and can suggest the mind, leading you to various scenarios. Because in the end, no matter how you try in vain to frame it, this film spins like a top or is like the cat that always lands on its feet. Because every plausible meaning fits so well (from the philosophical to the sexual, to the psychological or even to the dreamlike or political) that it seems like making the umbrella gesture and running away with infinite class and skillful mastery and ease. And you remain there even when the pendant has stopped spinning, as if you have lived a dream that concerns you or that does not concern you at all. But in its diabolically dualistic incomprehension and glacial indifference, it's cinema to the nth degree and that's not up for debate. Then for the rest it will take other rewatches or other lives to be able to truly assimilate it all. And this, rather than calling it confusion, is an illusion that truly borders on magic.

PS. If this had come out today, Naomi Watts and Jessica Chastain would have been perfect.

- Nonostante sia un remake del film del 58 "L'esperimento del dottor K.", questo classicone del body horror e fiore all'occhiello della filmografia di David Cronenberg è riuscito a lasciare il segno. E che segno...

- Trucco sbalorditivo, una storia già inquietante di sé che con questo nuovo aggiornamento acquisisce ancora più orrore e innovazione. Comunque io con gli horror ci vado bene, non mi spavento abbastanza o sono debole e sono abituato a tutto. Ma porca puttana in questi film di David ci sono delle cosette (anche le meno importanti) che sì, mi hanno traumatizzato abbastanza LOL (come qui ad esempio, con quel babbuino e l'incubo di lei OMG).

- Jeff Goldblum e il gran sex symbol che sei stato negli anni 80/90. Diciamo che qui sei stato un bel vedere ecco (oltre che bravissimo) prima del fattaccio LOL. E Coralie Fargeat, adesso ho la conferma della sostanza primaria e originale da cui hai attinto per il tuo altro cult assoluto. Tornando a questo, c'è solo da ammettere il gran pezzo di cinema anni 80 e dell'horror (anche fantascientifico) che è stato.

- Despite being a remake of the 1958 film "The Experiment of Dr. K.", this classic of body horror and flagship of David Cronenberg's filmography has managed to leave its mark. And what a mark...

- Stunning make up, an already disturbing story that with this new update acquires even more horror and innovation. Anyway, I'm good with horror, i don't get scared enough or i'm weak and I'm used to everything. But damn in these films by David there are some little things (even the less important ones) that yes, they traumatized me quite a bit LOL (like here for example, with that baboon and the nightmare of her OMG).

- Jeff Goldblum and the great sex symbol that you were in the 80s/90s. Let's say that here you were a beautiful sight here (besides being very good) before the disaster LOL. And Coralie Fargeat, now i have confirmation the primary and original substance from which you drew for your other absolute cult. Coming back to this, we just have to it what a great piece of 80s cinema and horror (even science fiction) it was.

- Fresco di rilascio su Netflix, questo documentario ci fa conoscere Kulu, un pangolino che grazie alle cure e alla stretta sorveglianza di un assistente forestale, verrà riadattato in natura dopo brutti episodi con quei bastardi, viscidi e maledetti che sono i bracconieri.

- Ma quando bellissime, pucciose e particolari sono queste bestioline uniche? Dategli un occhiata perché è davvero di una tenerezza infinita.

- Ora anche io voglio essere un assistente di pangolini. O li voglio come animali domestici. Kulu spero stia bene ora, dovunque si trovi <3

Non so perché, ma film come questo che:
- Sono ambientati nello stesso spazio/luogo/camera/lasso di tempo
- Tutti chiacchieraticci e zero dinamismo...
Sono in realtà quelli che mi volano di più e mi rilassano come pochi.

Poi ancora più suggestivo perché:
- L'ho visto a notte inoltrata, anzi inoltratissima.
- Con le cuffiette.
- Dopo una giornata pesante.

Sean Penn straperfetto nel fare il tassista boomer/bigotto/saggio/ e Dakota Johnson ti voglio tanto bene ma ti si addice di più il moro. Non alzo a tre e mezzo perché questo è quel genere di film lineare e semplice da tre stellette. Ma sono comunque tre stellette luminosissime, come la notte che accompagna queste confessioni inaspettate e sorprendenti di un incontro casuale quanto irripetibile. E sono tra i momenti più speciali di tutti.
Ah, il titolo italiano NON pervenuto.

I don't know why, but movies like this where:
- They are set in the same space/place/camera/period of time.
- All chatter and zero dynamism...
Actually they are the ones that fly to me the most and relax me like few others.

Then even more suggestive because:
- I saw it late at night, very late indeed.
- With headphones.
- After a hard day.

Sean Penn perfect in playing the boomer/bigot/wise/ taxi driver and Dakota Johnson I love you so much but the dark-haired one suits you better. I'm not giving it three and a half because this is the kind and simply of linear three-star movie. But three very bright stars, like the night that accompanies these unexpected and surprising confessions of a meeting casual how unrepeatable. And And they are among the most special moments of all.
Ah, the Italian title NOT received.

- Con mea grandissima culpa devo ammettere che Fargo mancava nel mio curriculum da cinefilo. E quindi ho rattoppato anche questa perdita. Via i convenevoli, vamos...

- Fargo è il Pulp Fiction dei fratelli Cohen, in quanto è il loro film simbolo ed evocativo. Il primo di tanti altri film fac-simile che hanno scritto, diretto e interpretato. È precursore nel suo black humour perfido e intelligente e nella commedia che si tinge di grottesco. s McDormand la nostra mamma, sempre ineccepibile e sul pezzo e si porta a casa il primo del suoi TRE Oscar (anche se l'ho preferita di più in Ebbing, Missouri e Nomadland). Il suo personaggio è fantastico e poi avrebbe mangiato anche un tronco se ci fosse stato un po' di Ketchup e qualche patatina, LOL. Ma Steve Buscemi ruba anche lui la scena con una prova mattatrice e surreale.

- Graditissimo e approvato, anche se da 4 stellette in poi per me c'è Non è un paese per vecchi, il loro capolavoro "definitivo".

- With my great fault I have to it that Fargo was missing from my cinephile curriculum. And so I patched up this loss too. No more pleasantries, let's...

- Fargo is the Pulp Fiction of the Cohen brothers, as it is their symbolic and evocative film. The first of many other facsimile films that they wrote, directed and starred in. It is a precursor in its wicked and intelligent black humor and in the comedy that is tinged with grotesque. s McDormand our mother, always impeccable and on point and takes home the first of her THREE Oscars (even if I preferred her more in Ebbing, Missouri and Nomadland). Her character is fantastic and then she would have eaten even a trunk if there had been a bit of Ketchup and some chips, LOL. But Steve Buscemi also steals the scene with a starry and surreal performance.

- Very welcome and approved, even if from 4 stars onwards for me there is No Country for Old Men, their "definitive" masterpiece.

- Finalmente recupero anche io questo film loggatissimo qui su Letterboxd...

- Monster si può paragonare per certi versi a Close del 2022. L'essenza è quella, ma è lo svolgimento a cambiare. Non posso dire altro perché altrimenti finisco dritto nello spoiler per chi non lo ha ancora visto, ma credo pochissimi (a fine review potrò parlarne liberamente anche per chi lo ha visto). Diciamo che è il Close orientale che colpisce a modo suo, visto il tema affrontato, ma ha una chiave di lettura ancora più coinvolgente e misteriosa.

- Sincero, all'inizio ci ha messo un po' a prendermi perché va molto lento. Poi man mano che i nodi si sciolgono e la trama sboccia, il film ha iniziato a coinvolgermi. Sempre attualissimo, tristissimo e importantissimo nel suo messaggio universale. Film come questi sono dannatamente necessari e mai smetteranno di esserlo. Se volete stare in ansia, incazzarvi e piangere, allora questo potrebbe essere il vostro nuovo film preferito in assoluto.

🚫 PARTE SPOILER 🚫
Ma secondo voi, come è andato a finire? Sono morti e quel finale è stato onirico o sono sopravvissuti, più forti di prima e abbiamo visto la realtà? Io sono più team pessimista lo ammetto, ma non mi precludo niente.
Se Close è più duro e spietato e tutto è evidente e senza possibilità di redenzione, qui invece il finale lascia alla libera interpretazione ed è questo che lo "differenzia" dal film del 2022. È aberrante come l'istituzione e la formalità giapponese fa finta di niente. E di come storie così sono purtroppo all'ordine del giorno. Ci ho visto un mix di tante cose: La sala professori, Un ponte per Terabithia, il già citato Close fino a come dicono in tantissimi, rimandi a Miyazaki. Comunque, scrittura solidissima ed emozioni forti. Perché alla fine questi mostri citati nel titolo, sono solo la moltitudine del marcio che macchiano "l'innocenza" (per riprendere il titolo nostrano) di un amizia pura e genuina di due bambini tanto puri quanto ancora fragili per quanto riguarda sentimenti di forte risonanza.

- Monster can be compared in some ways to Close from 2022. The essence is the same, but the development changes. I can't say anything else because otherwise I'll end up in a spoiler for those who haven't seen it yet, but I think very few (at the end of the review I'll be able to talk about it freely even for those who have seen it). Let's say it's the Eastern Close that strikes in its own way, given the theme addressed, but it has an even more engaging and mysterious interpretation.

- Honestly, at the beginning it took me a while to get into it because it's very slow. Then as the knots unravel and the plot blossoms, the film started to involve me. Always very current, very sad and very important in its universal message. Films like these are damn necessary and will never stop being so. If you want to be anxious, get angry and cry, then this could be your new favorite film ever.

But in your opinion, how did it end? Did they die and that ending was dreamlike or did they survive, stronger than before and did we see reality? I am more of a pessimistic team, I it, but I don't preclude anything.
If Close is harder and more ruthless and everything is evident and without the possibility of redemption, here instead the ending leaves it to free interpretation and this is what "differentiates" it from the 2022 film. It is aberrant how the Japanese institution and formality pretends nothing is happening. And how stories like this are unfortunately the order of the day. I saw a mix of many things: The Teacher's Room, Bridge to Terabithia, the aforementioned Close up to, as many say, references to Miyazaki. In any case, very solid writing and strong emotions. Because in the end these monsters mentioned in the title are only the multitude of rottenness that stain the "innocence" (to use the local title) of a pure and genuine friendship between two children as pure as they are still fragile when it comes to feelings of strong resonance.

- Se Hong Kong Express è il giorno, Fallen Angels è la notte. Sono le due facce della stessa medaglia (doveva essere un film unico all'inizio). Se il film del 95 virava sul drammatico e sul cupo, questo invece va sulla commedia e la leggerezza.

- Sinceramente mi aspettavo mi pie tanto, sullo stesso livello di In The Mood For Love o proprio Falling Angels, ma non è andata così. Poteva essere un 4 e mezzo/5 pieno, ma non sono riuscito ad andare oltre. Mi è piaciuto, ma moderatamente (ma sono sicuro che con altri rewatch il mio apprezzamento salirà quanto gli altri).

- Io in fissa con la tizia con gli occhiali da sole e l'impermeabile (già dal 94 aveva previsto il riscaldamento climatico e le mezze stagioni). Il poliziotto 223 mia crush assoluta mentre Tony vabbè ha fascino pure se ha la rogna e vive in una palude alla Shrek. California Dreamin e Dreams dei The Cranberries in cinese >>>>>>
Quei colori caldi ma tiepidi alla "prima mattina d'estate" sono squisiti. Ma sopratutto, il logo della Coca-Cola così onnipresente che sembrava sentire le bollicine e la frizzantezza. E poi tra peluche psicologi e violazione di domicilio, la follia si fa poesia e musica ad alto volume che non vuoi abbassare per poter ballare e non pensare più. Bizzarro e delicato.

- If Chungking Express is the day, Fallen Angels is the night. They are two sides of the same coin (it was supposed to be a single film at the beginning). If the 95 film veers towards the dramatic and the dark, this one instead goes for comedy and lightness.

- Honestly I expected to like it a lot, on the same level as In The Mood For Love or Falling Angels, but it didn't go that way. It could have been a full 4 and a half/5, but I couldn't go beyond that. I liked it, but moderately (but i'm sure that with more rewatches my appreciation will rise as much as the others).

- I'm obsessed with the girl with sunglasses and a raincoat (she had already predicted global warming and the mid-seasons in 94). Policeman 223 is my absolute crush while Tony, oh well, has class even if he has the itch and lives in a swamp like Shrek. California Dreamin and Dreams by The Cranberries in Chinese >>>>>>
Those warm but tepid colors on the "first morning of summer" are exquisite. But above all, the Coca-Cola logo so omnipresent that it seemed to feel the bubbles and the fizziness. And then between psychologist stuffed toys and home invasion, madness becomes poetry and music at full blast that you don't want to turn down to be able to dance and not think anymore. Bizarre and delicate.

- L'amore non è bello se non è litigarello... O toxic fino a diventare zerbini.

- Per ora leggermente inferiore rispetto ai grandi titoli di Wong Kar-wai, ma resta pur sempre interessante, intenso e raffinato e va comunque recuperato perché male non fa. Regia, fotografia e colonna sonora sempre tanta roba.

- E poi c'è Tony Leung sempre caliente e per di più omosessuale, quindi è già un pretesto valido per farvi convincere. Ah, e poi la vorrei anche io quella lampada.

- Love is not beautiful if it's not quarrelsome... Or toxic to the point of becoming doormats.

- For now a slightly inferior to the great titles of Wong Kar-wai, but it's still interesting, intense and refined that should be recovered anyway because it doesn't do any harm. Direction, photography and soundtrack are always great stuff.

- And then there's Tony Leung always hot and homosexual, so that's already a valid excuse to convince you. Oh, and then I'd like that lamp too.

- Primo film (e secondo in generale dopo A History Of Violence) che recupero del primo Croneberg, quello body horror degli anni 80.

- Videodrome è uno dei suoi punti più alti (da quello che ho letto e sentito) e quindi, complice il aparola lettetboxdiano e rimandi casuali al film anche al di fuori di questa community, ho deciso di rimediare. Che dire, puro concentrato di ansia telecinetica. Con la sua metafora orrifica e putrida, è un alzare il dito contro la spazzatura e l'ossessione della TV e dei mass media con annessa manipolazione politica. Roba che oggi è sostituta dai mattoni che abbiamo in mano costantemente.

- Attualissimo e ansiolitico e al contempo disturbante ed estramemente visionario, è proprio la definizione assoluta di CULT. Non me lo sono gustato pienamente perché a primo impatto l'ho trovato glaciale e complesso quanto basta, ma ne riconosco l'importanza e l'intelligenza. E comunque sì Cielo, proprio a te mi riferisco, sei la nostra Civic TV. Differenze non ne vedo, LOL (ma anche TeleMeloni non scherza).

- First film (and second in general after A History Of Violence) that I recover from the first Croneberg, the body horror of the 80s.

- Videodrome is one of his highest points (from what I've read and heard) and therefore, thanks to the lettetboxdian word of mouth and random references to the film even outside this community, i decided to fix it. What can I say, pure concentration of telekinetic anxiety. With its horrific and putrid metaphor, it is a finger raised against the garbage and obsession of TV and mass media, with accompanying political manipulation. Stuff that today is replaced by the bricks we constantly have in our hands.

- Very current and anxiety-inducing and at the same time disturbing and extremely visionary, it is the absolute definition of CULT. I didn't fully enjoy it because at first glance i found it icy and complex enough, but i recognize its importance and intelligence. And anyway yes Heaven, i am referring to you, you are our Civic TV. I don't see any differences, LOL (but TeleMeloni is no joke either).

- Prosegue il mio recupero di film di Wong Kar-wai, regista che qui su Letterboxd va come il pane ed è il fiore all'occhiello di ogni cinefilo.

- Mi è piaciuto molto di più di In The Mood For Love. Perché ho un debole assoluto per i film notturni (specie se orientali) e dopo Lost In Translation, mio nuovo film notturno preferito. Tutto girato di notte, con tre storie parallele che sono il marchio di fabbrica del regista: solitudine, amore non ricambiato, destino, emarginazione. A tratti sembra un mix tra un anime esistenziale e un videogioco d'azione. Durante la visione sembra come essere sotto un trip allucenogeno di sostanze, per poi lasciarci travolgere dalla magia, dalle luci, da ogni incontro surreale e grottesco.

- Unico difetto? Per un vegetariano (e ogni tanto vegano) rompiballe come me, la scena di cattivissimo gusto col maiale mi ha dato fastidio. Assolutamente inutile ed evitabile. Perché per il resto ho amato ogni secondo, ogni fotogramma, ogni deriva, ogni sogno, cuore, sentiero distrutto e disinfettato dalla notte e dalla vita stessa.

- My recovery continues with films by Wong Kar-wai, a director who is very popular here on Letterboxd and is the pride of every cinephile.

- I liked it much more than In The Mood For Love. Because I have an absolute weakness for nighttime films (especially oriental ones) and after Lost In Translation, my new favorite nighttime film. All shot at night, with three parallel stories that are the director's trademark: loneliness, unrequited love, destiny, marginalization. At times it seems like a mix between an existential anime and an action video game. While watching it, it seems like being on a hallucinogenic trip of substances, and then we let ourselves be overwhelmed by the magic, the lights, by every surreal and grotesque encounter.

- The only flaw? For a vegetarian (and occasionally vegan) pain in the ass like me, the scene in very bad taste with the pig bothered me. Absolutely useless and avoidable. Because for the rest I loved every second, every frame, every drift, every dream, heart, path destroyed and disinfected by the night and by life itself.

La premessa curiosa e bizzarra della scimmia/alter ego mi intrigava. Poi ne ho sentito parlare stra bene e anche questo ok. Ma dovevo vederlo con i miei occhi per dire... OMG che FILMONE!

Il biopic su quella testa calda ma pardon, diciamo mitica, gran testa di cazzo di Robbie Williams (a lui andrebbe bene la versione explicit lo so) è dannatamente fatto bene ed è tutto quello che un ottimo biopic dovrebbe essere:
- Brutalmente ONESTO: qui non si fanno sconti. Non ci sono filtri e perbenismi. Robbie è raffigurato al massimo nei suo up e down vertiginosi. È irresistibile, sexy, arrogante, divertente e profondo. La scelta del suo alter ego secondo me, oltre a quella di non "sentirsi evoluto" è perché è adorabilmente troppo egocentrico per farsi sostituire da un altro giovane attore, ma poi non sarebbe stata la stessa cosa a mio avviso. E poi anche il fatto che gli è piaciuto rivedersi in tutto questo indossando questa maschera da primate (come il suo nome d'arte che ha creato il personaggio e nascosto Robert).
- Creatività: ci sono dei momenti di grande impatto scenico. È strabordante, eccessivo, elettrico e stimolante. Il fatto di inserire le sue hit da solista già nella primissima parte in cui lui deve ancora arrivarci non so ancora se mi è piaciuta del tutto. Però poi è una cosa di poco per cui non ci ho più fatto tanto caso.

È diretto da Michael Gracey, regista di quel gran comfort movie della vita che è The Greatest Showman. La sua regia è così sorprendente e ottima che sembrava di vedere un film in grande stile di Baz Luhrmann. Davvero un film bello bello bello. Un biopic che è sullo stesso stesso livello di Bohemian Rhapsody, ma forse anche di più. Tra qualche anno vorrei che venisse considerarato come uno dei film più belli degli ultimi tempi. The curious and bizarre premise of the monkey/alter ego intrigued me. Then I heard great things about it and this was also ok. But I had to see it with my own eyes to say... OMG what a BIG MOVIE!

The biopic about that hothead but sorry, let's say legendary, big dickhead Robbie Williams (he would be fine with the explicit version I know) is damn well done and is everything a great biopic should be:
- Brutally HONEST: here there are no discounts. There are no filters and do-goodisms. Robbie is depicted at his best in his dizzying ups and downs. He is irresistible, sexy, arrogant, funny and profound. The choice of his alter ego in my opinion, in addition to that of not "feeling evolved" is because he is adorably too self-centered to be replaced by another young actor, but then it wouldn't have been the same thing in my opinion. And then also the fact that he liked seeing himself in all of this wearing this primate mask (like his stage name that created the character and hid Robert).
- Creativity: there are moments of great scenic impact. It is overflowing, excessive, electric and stimulating. The fact of inserting his solo hits already in the very first part where he still has to get there I still don't know if I liked it at all. But then it's a small thing so I didn't pay much attention to it anymore.

It is directed by Michael Gracey, director of that great comfort movie of life that is The Greatest Showman. His direction is so surprising and excellent that it seemed like watching a film in great style by Baz Luhrmann. Truly a beautiful, beautiful film. A biopic that is on the same level as Bohemian Rhapsody but maybe even more. And I would like to dream that in a few years it will be considered one of the most beautiful films of recent times. I would have also liked to include that great piece of Back For Good with Take That, but in the end I thought of it more as a solo top 10.

- Ero già pronto a fare l'hater di questo film dicendo che questa serie era arrivata alla frutta, che questo quarta avventura era pasticciata, inconcludente ed ecc ecc ecc...

- E invece mi sono divertito tantissimo! Non me lo aspettavo, ma è andata così. È un capitolo innovativo? Ovviamente no. Posso tranquillamente affermare che questo film non sarà il migliore della saga ma di sicuro è il PIÙ divertente. Le gag sono ancora più indiavolate e a profusione e fanno sganasciare. La vicenda si spezzetta in tante mini storielle (come in Pets 2 anche se lì ne erano 3) che sì, forse sono un po' troppe e il troppo stroppia, ma sono un vero so. È una matrioska di situazioni folli e demenziali che non mi ha annoiato neanche per un istante e sinceramente ne avrei voluto ancora di più.

- Quindi a conti fatti se la cava così. Mostra ancora stanchezza ma questa volta l'energia è talmente contagiosa che almeno il divertimento è assicurato. Il finale sembra definitivo, come se effettivamente fosse l'ultimo (ma non me la bevo affatto, visto che spremeranno questo brand fino all'ultima goccia, perché Cattivissimo me è il Toy Story dell'Illumination). Quindi soggettivamente lo preferisco di più al terzo. Ah e nel comparto doppiaggio, complimenti a Stefano Accorsi che ha fatto un ottimo lavoro per il suo Maxime.

- I was already ready to hate this movie saying that this series had reached the end of its tether, that this fourth adventure was a mess, inconclusive and etc etc etc...

- And instead I had so much fun! I didn't expect it, but that's how it went. Is it an innovative chapter? Obviously not. I can safely say that this movie won't be the best of the saga but it's definitely the funniest. The gags are even more devilish and profuse and make you laugh out loud. The story is broken up into many mini stories (like in Pets 2 even though there were 3 of them) which yes, maybe they're a bit too many and too much is too much maybe, but they're a real laugh. It's a matryoshka of crazy and demented situations that didn't bore me for a single moment and honestly I would have wanted even more.

- So all things considered, it gets by like this. It still shows tiredness but this time the energy is so contagious that at least the fun is guaranteed. The ending seems definitive, as if it were actually the last one (but I don't buy it at all, since they will squeeze this brand to the last drop, because it is the Toy Story of Illumination Despicable Me). So subjectively I prefer it more to the third.

- Premessa: Il Re Leone per me è intoccabile. Ed è stato straniante e algido il mio coinvolgimento con il live action del 2019. Ma non perché è tremendo, ma perché penso che il classico del 94 è stato forse il più difficile da riadattare rispetto agli altri. Poi mettici che è un copia e incolla (tranne qualcosina, ma niente di speciale) e quindi non me lo sono vissuto appieno.

- Tornando ad oggi, le mie aspettative per questo prequel erano proprio minime, forse pari allo zero, tanto che al cinema non sono andato e ho aspettato direttamente che approdasse su D+. E invece oggi l'ho recuperato e devo dire che... Mi è andato bene! Eh sì, l'ho preferito di gran lunga al film di Jon Favreau. Ma perché non c'era il paragone con il classico, la storia è diversa (anche se è collegata) e qualche miglioramento c'è. Certo, ha i suoi difetti, con svolgimenti rapidi che non hanno modo di approfondire personaggi e situazioni nel dettaglio, le canzoni non pervenute (preferendo i momenti non parlati). E forse poteva essere più "epico" o sentito come la storia-sequel, ma devo dire che a me sta bene anche cosi. È stato bello scoprire la storia di Mufasa e ri-affezionarmi ai personaggi (Rafiki e Zazu ne escono benissimo). Poi se pensiamo che ci sono live action disastrosi come Biancaneve, beh questo si salva, anche di poco.

- Se proprio dovessi scegliere tra il suo precedessore e questo prequel (riadattamento che io non avrei mai fatto, facendo uscire direttamente questo qui) sceglierei quest'ultimo. Ma ancora meglio, guardarei questo e poi erei direttamente al classico del 94. E penso che questo sia un complimento da parte mia. Buono buono.

- Premise: The Lion King is untouchable for me. And my involvement with the 2019 live action was alienating and cold. But not because it is terrible, but because I think that the 94 classic was perhaps the most difficult to re-adapt compared to the others. - Returning to today, my expectations for this prequel were really minimal, perhaps equal to zero, so much so that I did not go to the cinema and waited directly for it to land on D+. But because there was no comparison with the classic, the story is different (even if it is connected) and there are some improvements. Sure, it has its flaws, with rapid developments that have no way to delve into characters and situations in detail, the songs that were not received (preferring the non-spoken moments). And maybe it could have been more "epic" or heartfelt like the sequel story, but I have to say that I'm fine with it. It was nice to discover Mufasa's story and re-affect the characters (Rafiki and Zazu come out very well). Then if we think that there are disastrous live actions like Snow White, well this one is barely saved.

- If I really had to choose between its predecessor and this prequel (a re-adaptation that I would never have done, releasing this one directly) I would choose the latter. But even better, i would watch this and then go straight to the 94 classic. And I think this is a compliment on my part. Good good.

- Allora la storia è questa: volevo vedere il quarto, ma non mi ricordavo bene il terzo (i primi due invece si). Quindi ho recuperato questo prima di visionare l'ultimo.

- Allora non so voi, ma l'idea del gemello non mi ha fatto impazzire particolarmente. Però la sottotrama dei Minions è esilarante e il cattivo della situazione è forse il migliore finora (la sua mania anni 80 con i pezzi di allora mi ha steso).

- Quindi diciamo che se i primi due reggevano bene (e per me entrambi sono da tre stellette e mezzo), qui si inizia un po' a scricchiolare con i primi segni di stanchezza. Ma ancora è godibile e lo salvo, come un 6 politico e tiepidino. Ora largo al quarto film...

- Volevo fare una challenge di film pasquali, perché anche se non c'è la vasta scelta come nei film natalizi, qualcosa a tema si trova sempre. Ma siccome la mia agenda è bella piena e già programmata da tempo, non mi è più riuscito. Quindi oggi volevo rimediare e scelta migliore non potevo fare, scegliendo di recuperare il musical del mondo di Oz che ha sbancato lo scorso anno. Quindi bando alle ciance e via...

- Sinceramente non mi ispirava tantissimo e pensavo di trovarmi davanti un prodotto sopravvalutato. Invece sapevo che mi sarei poi ricreduto vedendolo, ma non tantissimo ecco. Diciamo che il livello è quello di Barbie, ossia non è ne un capolavoro assoluto ma neanche un compito scolastico svolto discretamente. È notevole, impacchettato con delizia e sì, pronto per diventare un altro classico istantaneo. Attinge dalla nostalgia del classico di Fleming e dal successo del musical omonimo e si vede che c'è dedizione e cura in quello che viene mostrato.

- Coloratissimo.
Colori vividi, luce perfetta. È assolutamente azzeccato per questa stagione. E infatti credo di inserirlo nella mia lista dei film pasquali o primaverili perché ci sta troppo bene.

- Cynthia Erivo.
Bravissima e perfetta per fare Elphaba. Ho percepito il dolore, la frustrazione, la solitudine e il riscatto. Ha lasciato il segno e credo che ormai è diventata il nuovo simbolo cinematografico di alienazione, solitudine e diversità della gen Z. Un po' come De Niro con Taxi Driver negli anni 70 ecco.

- Isruttivo.
Affronta temi politici, sociali e scolastici non indifferenti. È un mix tra Harry Potter e L'accademia del bene e del male, solo che la scuola è messa in secondo piano e in primis c'è la dualità tra Elphaba e Glinda.

- Scenografia.
Curatissima e giustamente premiata con l'Oscar.

- La durata eccessiva.
Non mi è pesata tantissimo, però ammetto che mi ha stancato giusto un po' verso la fine. Poteva durare sui 135/140 senza problemi.

- Le canzoni.
Qui credo che il problema sia il mio. Quella che mi ha colpito è anche la più famosa del film: Defyng Gravity. Le altre mi sono scivolate subito e non mi hanno preso abbastanza. Ma i musical vanno rivisti per poter apprezzare meglio le canzoni e credo che alle prossime visioni avrò le idee più chiare. Ma soprattutto la prossima volta lo rivedrò in lingua originale perché credo renda meglio.

- Sapore Netflix.
Alone da film "Netflix" facile con evidenti cliché. Ma di poco ecco.

Non vado oltre il 4 perché non è perfetto e ha (anche se minori) i suoi difettini. E poi dovrò vedere la seconda parte per avere un quadro più completo. Ma come detto prima, resta un musical vivace e fatto con tanto amore, elevato grazie alla performance della Erivo e da alcune sequenze accattivanti che mi hanno sorpreso in pieno. Ora non ci resta che aspettare le seconda parte che sarà la più succosa e quella decisiva e che decretera' tutto l'insieme. È lì che avremo la conferma assoluta e tutte le altre cose lasciate a metà qui (sempre che non vogliono farlo diventare una saga o una trilogia alla J.K. Rowling perché a Hollywood tutto è possibile, andando oltre il musical e scrivendo una cosa all'ultimo minuto per farne un terzo). Stay tuned...

- I wanted to do an Easter movie challenge, because even if there isn't a wide choice like in Christmas movies, you can always find something themed. But since my agenda is really full and already planned for a long time, I didn't manage to do it anymore. So today I wanted to make up for it and I couldn't have made a better choice, choosing to recover the musical The World of Oz that was a hit last year. So, enough chit-chat and off we go...

- Honestly, it didn't inspire me that much and I thought I was looking at an overrated product. Instead, I knew I would change my mind when I saw it, but not that much. Let's say that the level is that of Barbie, that is, it's not an absolute masterpiece but not even a school assignment done fairly well. It's remarkable, packaged with delight and yes, ready to become another instant classic. It draws from the nostalgia of Fleming's classic and the success of the musical of the same name and you can see that there is dedication and care in what is shown.

Vivid colors, perfect light. It's absolutely perfect for this season. In fact, I think I'll put it on my list of Easter or spring movies because it fits so well.

- Cynthia Erivo.
Very good and perfect to play Elphaba. I felt the pain, the frustration, the loneliness and the redemption. It stuck with me and I think it has now become the new cinematic symbol of alienation, loneliness and diversity of Gen Z. A bit like De Niro with Taxi Driver in the 70s.

- Instructive.
It deals with political, social and scholastic issues that are not indifferent. It's a mix between Harry Potter and The Academy of Good and Evil, except that the school is put in the background and first there is the duality between Elphaba and Glinda.

- Scenography.
Very well-kept and rightly awarded with the Oscar.

- The duration is too long.
It didn't weigh me down that much, but I it that it tired me a little towards the end. It could have lasted about 135/140 without any problems.

- The songs.
Here I think the problem is mine. The one that struck me is also the most famous of the film: Defyng Gravity. The others slipped away from me immediately and don't captivate me enough. But musicals need to be re-watched to better appreciate the songs and I think that with the next viewings I will have clearer ideas. But as I said before, it is a lively musical made with a lot of love, elevated thanks to Erivo's performance and some captivating sequences that completely surprised me. Now we just have to wait for the second part which will be the juiciest and most decisive and which will decree the whole thing. That's where we'll have the absolute confirmation and all the other things left half done here (unless they want to turn it into a J.K. Rowling-style saga or trilogy because in Hollywood anything is possible, going beyond the musical writing one thing at the last minute to do a third). Stay tuned...

- Sono un grande fan dei party movies, quelli proprio zero sbattimento, caciara e tanto divertimento. Me li sono gustati quasi tutti, ma tra quelli che mi mancano c'era anche questo che è stato forse il re indiscusso del genere degli anni 10.

- Sì perché Project X, nonostante c'è chi l'ha odiato e amato al tempo stesso, è stato un fenomeno virale che ha sbancato nel 2012. Tutti ne hanno parlato, tutti hanno provato ad emularlo.

- Girato con la tecnica mockumentary, è un delirio che sicuramente farà felici i fan del genere. A me è piaciuto, anche se ho trovato altri simili meglio scritti e con una comicità più brillante. Però devo ammettere che in alcuni punti mi sono gasato abbastanza anche io e alla fine l'ho trovato soddisfacente nella sua promessa sfrenata e senza pensieri.

- I'm a big fan of party movies, those with zero fuss, racket and lots of fun. I enjoyed almost all of them, but among the ones I miss there was also this one which was perhaps the undisputed king of the genre in the 10s.

- Yes because Project X, despite there being those who hated it and loved it at the same time, was a viral phenomenon that took off in 2012. Everyone talked about it, everyone tried to emulate it.

- Filmed with the mockumentary technique, it's a delirium that will surely make fans of the genre happy. I liked it, although I have found other similar ones better written and with a more brilliant comedy. However, I must it that at some points I got quite excited too and yes in the end i found it satisfying in its unbridled and carefree promise.

- C'è lo zampino collaborativo dello Studio Ghibli in questo film d'animazione dalla Francia/Belgio candidato agli Oscar 2017.

- Con un animazione tradizionale favolosa e zero dialoghi, La tartaruga rossa è un'esperienza mistica e metaforica, emblematica ed élite. Può scontentare chi si aspetta un film di facile comprensione. Che poi alla fine il messaggio è più semplice di quel che sembra, sta a noi poi vivercelo e comprenderlo come meglio crediamo (nella parte spoiler per chi lo ha visto, approfondisco nel dettaglio).

- Suggestivo e appagante, per chi non lo ha visto meno sa e meglio è. Peccato che questo e tanti altri film sono stati sempre surclassati dalla Disney che per quanto mi riguarda, nonostante lo studio di Topolino abbia il mio cuore e la mia anima, è pur vero che in QUASI la maggior parte dei casi hanno rubato la statuetta ad opere eccelse come questa e solo perché l'Academy non è mai riuscita ad andare oltreoceano, andando così sul sicuro. Storia che, fortunatamente, da quest'anno è cambiata grazie a Flow (anche se il mio cuore era per Il Robot selvaggio). Quindi contento che negli ultimi tre anni questi gioellini oltreoceano stanno battendo gli studios più grandi.

🚫 PARTE SPOILER 🚫
- Un'idea l'avevo già a fine visione. Ma l'avevo bisogno di più chiarezza e sono andato a cercarmi qualcosa online per capirci meglio. Ma alla fine non ci ho trovato grandi spiegazioni e quasi tutte le altre analisi rispecchiavano la mia. Cioè che la tartaruga abbia proprietà magiche e che sia l'incarnazione della natura stessa. Che anche se viene uccisa dal naufrago, che poi prova rimorso subito dopo, ella decide di perdonarlo e di ricompensarlo offendo compagnia all'uomo solitario, diventando una donna bellissima da cui avrà un figlio. E da qui l'uomo imparerà a farsi bastare il poco che ha, con rispetto e dedizione. Con la partenza di quest'ultimo e la vecchiaia e morte dell'uomo, la natura ritorna nelle sue sembrianze originali, quelle della bellissima tartaruga, che è pronta a tornare nell'oceano. Questa è l'analisi che ho trovato ovunque, ma che poi sono riuscito ad arrivarci anche da solo anche se all'inizio non ne ero tanto sicuro. È un messaggio semplice e poetico, valorizzato da un'animazione meravigliosa e impeccabile.

- Studio Ghibli's collaborative hand in this animated film from /Belgium nominated for the 2017 Oscars.

- With fabulous traditional animation and zero dialogue, The Red Turtle is a mystic and metaphorical experience, emblematic and elite. It may disappoint those who expect an easy-to-understand film. In the end, the message is simpler than it seems, it's up to us to live it and understand it as we see fit (in the spoiler part for those who have seen it, I go into more detail).

- Suggestive and satisfying, for those who have not seen it, the less they know the better. It's a shame that this and many other films have always been outclassed by Disney, which as far as I'm concerned, even though Mickey Mouse's studio has my heart and soul, it is also true that in ALMOST most cases, they have stolen the statuette from excellent works like this and only because the Academy has never managed to go overseas and playing it safe. A story that, fortunately, has changed this year thanks to Flow (even if my heart was for The Wild Robot). So happy that for the last three years these little overseas gems are beating the big studios.

- I already had an idea at the end of the viewing. But I needed more clarity and I went looking for something online to understand better. But in the end I didn't find great explanations and almost all the other analyses reflected mine. That is, that the turtle has magical properties and that it is the incarnation of nature itself. That even if she is killed by the castaway, who then feels remorse immediately after, she decides to forgive him and to reward him by offering company to the lonely man, becoming a beautiful woman with whom she will have a child. And from here the man will learn to make do with the little he has, with respect and dedication. With the departure of the latter and the old age and death of man, nature returns to its original appearance, that of the beautiful turtle, which is ready to return to the ocean. This is the analysis that I found everywhere, but then I managed to get there by myself even if at first I wasn't so sure. It is a simple and poetic message, enhanced by a wonderful and impeccable animation.

- Ho letto il romanzo di Margaret Mazzantini oramai due anni fa, ma mi è sempre mancato di vedere il film del 2004 diretto e interpretato dal marito Sergio Castellitto.

- Il libro mi è piaciuto e anche questa trasposizione altrettanto. L'ho trovato perfettamente fedele e coerente (finale a parte che comunque funziona lo stesso). Ma il fattore super che eleva il tutto è la grandissima prova di Penélope Cruz, talmente magistrale che in molti l'hanno definita una degna erede di Anna Magnani. Credo che sia una delle sue migliori interpretazioni in carriera ed è perfetta per rappresentare Italia con tutta la sua malinconia e il suo vissuto intenso.

- E poi altro punto a favore è la presenza di Un senso di Vasco Rossi, che per chi non lo sapesse, è proprio la colonna sonora di questo film. Film che grazie all'interpretazione della Cruz e alla scrittura della Mazzantini riesce a toccare punti reconditi e dolenti dell'animo umano. C'è dolore, amore, nostalgia, sesso, sporcizia, resilienza, speranza e un estate caldissima. Tra i più bei film italiani degli anni 2000.

- I read Margaret Mazzantini's novel two years ago now, but I've always missed seeing the 2004 film directed by and starring her husband Sergio Castellitto.

- I liked the book and this adaptation as well. I found it perfectly faithful and coherent (except for the ending that still works). But the super factor that elevates everything is the great performance of Penelope Cruz who was so masterful that many have defined her as a worthy heir to Anna Magnani. I think it's one of her best performances in her career and is perfect for representing her Italia with all its melancholy and intense experience.

- And then another point in favor is the presence of Un senso by Vasco Rossi, which for those who don't know, is the soundtrack of this film. A film that thanks to Cruz's interpretation and Mazzantini's writing manages to touch on the hidden and painful points of the human soul. There is pain, love, nostalgia, sex, dirt, resilience, hope and a very hot summer. Among the most beautiful Italian films of the 2000s.

- s Ha è "La persona peggiore del mondo" che si traveste da Manhattan di Woody Allen. C'è anche un po di Young Adult di Reitman. Insomma è un frullato a cui non posso dire di no e che mi rispecchia a tutto, tuttissimo tondo.

- Io sono esattamente come lei (ormai lo sapete). Vivo alla giornata, sconclusionato e con un desiderio diverso dall'altro. Ma a volte mi manca la vitalità e la positività che ha lei qui. È un personaggio vibrante e sognante, che con la sua parlantina, goffaggine ed essere una eterna teenager si fa voler bene in modo smisurato e vorresti solo abbracciarla forte e affittare un appartamento con lei. Perché s vuole tutto ma ha poco. Vede persone attorno a sé fare cose fighe e crescere professionalmente e sentimentalmente e lei sta sempre indietro. Ma indossa un sorriso e non porta mai rancore, si veste di nostalgia e ripensa all'innocenza e alle amicizie del college. Ma quello che davvero vuole è solo qualcuno con cui fare due chiacchiere la sera dopo aver staccato da tutto e tutti, niente di più.

- Prima volta che vedo Greta Gerwig da attrice (almeno credo), qui diretta da suo marito Noah Baumbach. Poteva essere un 4 pieno se solo il finale fosse stato più pensato e non frettolosamente scontato. Una scoperta dell'ultimo momento e ora una chicca deliziosa aggiunta al mio curriculum.

- s Ha is "The Worst Person in the World" disguised as Woody Allen's Manhattan. There's also a bit of Reitman's Young Adult. In short, it's a smoothie that I can't say no to and that reflects me in every way, all round.

- I'm exactly like her (by now you know). I live day by day, disted and with a desire different from the other. But sometimes I miss the vitality and positivity that she has here. She's a vibrant and dreamy character, who with her talkativeness, clumsiness and being an eternal teenager makes herself loved in an immense way and you just want to hug her tightly and rent an apartment with her. Because s wants everything but has little. She sees people around her doing cool things and growing professionally and sentimentally and she's always behind. But she wears a smile and never holds a grudge, she dresses in nostalgia and thinks back to innocence and college friends. But what she really wants is just someone to chat with in the evening after disconnecting from everything and everyone, nothing more.

- First time I see Greta Gerwig as an actress (at least I think so), here directed by her husband Noah Baumbach. It could have been a full 4 if only the ending had been more thought and not hastily predictable. A last minute discovery and now a delicious gem added to my resume.

- La premessa sembra pesante, ma bisogna andare oltre l'apparenza. È curioso, delicato e umoristico e slitta così bene che si arriva alla fine senza neanche accorgersene. Affronta il tema con sensibilità e coraggio, senza scadere nella retorica o nella comione.

- D'altronde è anche prodotto dalla Searchlight Pictures e quindi nella maggior parte dei casi si ha sempre a che fare con un prodotto validissimo. Stra consigliato.

- Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA 2013 nominations for Helen Hunt for this biopic about the quadriplegic poet Mark O'Brien, who at 38 years decides to lose his virginity with the help of a sexual surrogate.

- The premise seems heavy, but you have to look beyond appearances. It is curious, delicate and humorous and slides so well that you get to the end without even realizing it. It addresses the subject with sensitivity and courage, without falling into rhetoric or comion.

- After all, it is also produced by Searchlight Pictures and therefore in most cases you are always dealing with a very valid product.
Highly recommended.

- Dopo quello scempio di Babygirl, dovevo tornare a credere nel genere "Famolo strano" con un film validissimo. E quale scelta migliore se non questo cult di Haneke del 2001...

- La pianista è un dramma psico-sessuale freddissimo e spietato come lo stile del regista. Mi aspettavo qualcosa alla Whiplash/Secretary, e invece il film prende una strada inaspettata che spiegherò in dettaglio nella parte spoiler per chi lo ha visto. Quindi sì, mi aspettavo una cosa e invece è andato in tutt'altra direzione. Non mi ha entusiasmato come credevo, ma in compenso mi ha affascinato e ipnotizzato tutto il tempo e lo ritengo interessante e singolare per come affronta il tema.

- Isabelle Huppert mi rivolgo a te. Ho visto poco o zero della tua filmografia, ma quando cazzo sei stata brava qui? STREPITOSA e inarrivabile. Se esiste una classifica delle interpretazioni femminili migliori della storia, tu devi starci assolutamente.

🚫 PARTE SPOILER 🚫
Da quello che è arrivato a me, il film cerca sia di colpevolizzare ma anche di giustificare (al tempo stesso) la protagonista. Di sicuro la sua psiche è instabile (compromettere per gelosia personale e romantica i suoi allievi e maltrattarli). Però i suoi gusti sessuali non sono da condannare, e credo che ormai oggi l'argomento sia stato bello che sdoganato. Diciamo che però ancora è tabù per chi ha paura di osare, chi si veste di ignoranza o chi è troppo pudico per limitarsi allo stretto necessario. E purtroppo lei paga un prezzo fin troppo alto. È stata un pezzo di ghiaccio per tutta la sua vita (complice anche l'educazione tossica e opprimente di sua madre) e quando decide di aprirsi e lasciarsi andare, è qui che entra in gioco l'inesperienza e la bravata giovane di uno studente che evidentemente è figlio di un preconcetto troppo grande e cieco per poterla assecondare nelle sue fantasie più estreme. Lo stupro è anche un po' come il karma negativo che "punisce" la pianista a sua volta (dopo i soprusi sui suoi alunni). La cosa che poi mi ha fatto strano è che dopo la violenza notturna, per sua madre il giorno dopo è già tutto archiviato o come niente fosse successo. E il suo tentativo finale è stato un quasi suicidio o ennesimo autolesionismo? Comunque sia, dalla sua fuga poteva partire tutta un'altra parte interessante che resterà nella nostra fervida immaginazione.

- After that Babygirl disaster, I had to believe in the "Let's make it weird" genre again with a very good film. And what better choice than this 2001 cult by Haneke...

- The Piano Teacher is a cold and ruthless psycho-sexual drama like the director's style. I was expecting something like Whiplash/Secretary, and instead the film takes an unexpected path that I will explain in detail in the spoiler section for those who have seen it. So yes, I was expecting one thing and instead it went in a completely different direction. It didn't excite me as I thought it would, but on the other hand it fascinated and hypnotized me the whole time and I find it interesting and unique for how the theme is addressed.

- Isabelle Huppert I'm addressing you. I've seen little or nothing of your filmography, but when the fuck were you good here? AMAZING and unrivaled. If there is a classic of the best female performances in history, you absolutely have to be there.

🚫 SPOILER PART 🚫
From what I've heard, the film tries to both blame and justify (at the same time) the protagonist. Her psyche is certainly unstable (compromising her students out of personal and romantic jealousy and mistreating them). However, her sexual tastes are not to be condemned, and I think that by now the topic has been well and truly accepted. Let's say that it is still taboo for those who are afraid to dare, who dress in ignorance or who are too modest to limit themselves to the bare minimum. And unfortunately she pays a far too high price. She has been a piece of ice all her life (also due to her mother's toxic and oppressive education) and when she decides to open up and let herself go, this is where the inexperience and youthful bravado of a student who is evidently the child of a preconception too big and blind to be able to indulge her in her most extreme fantasies comes into play. Violence is also a bit like the negative karma that "punishes" the pianist in turn (after the abuses against her students). One thing that was strange to me was that after the night violence, for her mother the next day everything was already archived or as if nothing had happened. And her final attempt was a near suicide or yet another self-harm? In any case, his escape could have given rise to another interesting part that will remain in our vivid imagination.

- Volevo vedere qualcosa made in Italy che ultimamente ho trascurato abbastanza. Qualcosa di leggero. Ma mi è andata male...

- Comicità da scuola elementare. Cliché obsoleti più dei nostri bisnonni, recitazione non pervenuta e cringe perenne. Un dramedy che alla fine non è ne troppo divertente e ne troppo serio. La storia è pure caruccia (e qualche momento profondo c'è alla fine e ti tocca) ma l'esecuzione è troppo da Disney Channel/ Rai Gulp/ Netflix ancora più scrausi.

- Ma ancora fanno i 100 giorni prima della maturità? Io e la mia classe di allora non abbiamo festeggiato, ma eravamo un caso a parte noi. E poi chi da ancora il numero di telefono? Il tizio dell'ospedale che frega la chitarra comunque è stato il momento migliore.

- I wanted to see something made in Italy that I've been neglecting a lot lately. Something light. But it went badly for me...

- Elementary school comedy. Clichés more obsolete than our great-grandparents, acting that hasn't arrived and perennial cringe. A dramedy that ultimately isn't too funny and isn't too serious. The story is also cute (and there are some serious moments at the end that touch you) but the execution is too Disney Channel/ Rai Gulp/ Netflix even more shoddy.

- But do they still have 100 days until the final exams? My class back then and I didn't celebrate, but we were a special case. And then who still gives out their phone number? The guy from the hospital who steals the guitar was the best moment anyway.
