Best film of the decade so far. It’s such a rich text and it’s even better on the rewatch. Scorsese once again examines the country’s relationship with greed and crime, but he’s preoccupied with the role that race plays in this one.

I was pretty excited to see Suzanna Son in something after Red Rocket. This was so disappointing, though.

The beginning pretty much delivered everything I could ask for, but this lost its way for me a bit in the second act. I still had a lot of fun — particularly with the great energy of an opening night crowd — I just hoped for a little more.

I’m so glad I saw this on the biggest screen I could see it on. You can really see a lot of Coogler’s previous works coming together here. There are some scenes here that will be hard to top throughout the year, but it’s not all the highest of highs. A great way to spend two hours in the theater. This isn’t flawless, but we should have more big-ish budget thrillers like this one.

All the performances are quite good and Fiennes is given a ton to do. It’s easy to see why he’s gotten a ton of early Oscar buzz. Rossellini stands out as well, but I’d be absolutely shocked if she was given enough to make it into serious contention.

The use of music deserves a lot of credit. It was propulsive at times, but it also let other moments breathe. Very well done.
