Now that, was a deeply bleak, and disturbing narrative. The second act became a bit tedious - but the payoff was, well, even more bleak.
Jesus.
]]>Nothing more than a feature sizzle for the SFX team. With that being said, effective gross out goopiness.
]]>I’m sure the headspace I was in previously was, in part influencing my enjoyment of the film. But this story struck me in a much more profound way upon the second viewing. Motifs of grief, isolation and letting go of things that once were, total gut punch.
]]>Well, that’s certainly one way to incorporate synthesizers into a narrative. Hats off to that. Also, I was wearing a synthesizer T-shirt at the time of viewing, yay.
Also - meh
]]>A fun southern, blues infused iteration of vampire lore from Director Ryan Coogler. Glad that I was able to catch this one while it was still in theaters. Refreshing, great performances, production design, musical numbers and score. It took a while to get going, and some of the pacing could’ve been better, but overall this was a satisfying, theatrical experience.
That third act!
]]>Well.
The kids became pretty fatiguing after an hour, I’ll stick to the vastly superior (And scary) V/H/S 2 segment that inspired this. Sometimes, less is more.
Oh yeah, Billy was a total dick!
]]>Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
Maybe it’s because I’m fresh off watching the original for the first time in many years the night prior. But despite some of the polarizing reviews this film received. Truth be told, I had a blast with it!
Was fun to see many of the original characters reprise their roles, with some welcomed fresh faces. It had some fun practical gags and throwback effects to the original. Is the story perfect? Far from, but it was an entertaining follow up for sure.
]]>It’s definitely been a handful of years since my last viewing of this film. It didn’t really strike me until this watch on how over-the-top and overly creative Tim Burton was with this vision. A total blast to watch.
]]>Total nostalgia wave, this film just gets better and better with age. Was in major vhs rental rotation as a youth. Wheeze the juice!
]]>Where has unhinged Bill Paxton been my whole life? 🥪
]]>I sometimes have an issue getting into procedural narratives. It was Interesting enough, loved the atmosphere and cinematography. Not sure if this is one I’ll revisit anytime soon though.
]]>Alright, ima head out now. 🛋️ 👋
]]>Okay,
I’m really not a fan of the Terrifier films, but cautiously presumed that this iteration might bring a fresh perspective to the killer clown genre.
I’ll start off by saying that the film had great cinematography, and some convincing set pieces weaved into the narrative. But that’s unfortunately where the fun ends. I can confidentially say that no other film in recent times has left me feeling as annoyed and frustrated as “Clown in a Cornfield” had. The cast was disted, the overly familiar plot regurgitated, and had within some of the most insufferable, dimwitted content creating obsessed, vaping youth players I’ve seen in some time.
While I do appreciate the craft and time that the team put into this production. I do not recommend this film.
]]>Don’t get me wrong, I love me some creative Rube Goldberg style deaths as much as the next fan of this franchise. But this film left me feeling in a similar way that the second one did.
Just too much expositional explanation of how and why “death’s plan” is occurring, it’s just kind of distracting.
I can really only say that about this specific franchise, as of course, films in general require a plot to foster the narrative. Nonetheless, some fun death sequences, a familiar soundscape, and minor callbacks that didn’t feel too contrived. It was tons of fun to see in a theatrical setting, and is a welcomed addition to the series that I will be soon adding to the blu collection.
Rest easy, Tony. 💀
]]>Entertaining, yet absurdly preposterous. The fast and the furious franchise has officially become a parody of itself.
]]>It’s fine, had some fun set pieces and of course balls to the wall, overly unrealistic action sequences. Was entertained for sure, but am even more fatigued of the formula at this point.
]]>While I was entertained throughout.. you can tell that this is where the series started to lose steam. Clunky narrative, spectacle piece after spectacle piece rinse repeat started feeling a bit fatiguing after a while. Pretty heartfelt / melancholy tribute to Paul during the end credits.
]]>The spectacle of it all definitely takes it up a few pegs in this sixth entry. And you’re telling me it gets even more wild? Neat that Letty is back in the mix.
]]>Fast does Brazil, a high octane in your face ride. Surprisingly effective for a fifth film in the franchise. Also, The Rock’s character wasn’t as annoying as I was anticipating. Fun stuff 🚘 🇧🇷
]]>I enjoyed my first viewing of this film, it felt like the true sequel to the original “The Fast and the Furious” film. The tension is heightened, the stakes are elevated and the story just felt a bit more reckless than previous efforts. It’s also nice to see some of the original characters maturing in these respective roles.
]]>It’s been many years since I’ve seen this entry in the franchise. Also, it is the last film I had seen before jumping into the rest of the franchise for the first time (May ‘25). The divergence in the narrative, racing style and new faces felt fresh. The change of country/culture was a welcomed addition.
]]>For me personally, the character banter between Paul and Tyrese are the best portions of this film. The story is a bit disted and feels clunky. Still an entertaining watch otherwise.
]]>Certainly ahead of its time, I can imagine how effective this was during its initial live screening in ‘92.
]]>You know, it’s been a handful of years since I’ve seen this one. And after my most recent revisit, I enjoyed it more and more. I find it to be one of Shyamalan‘s better films, aside from the upper echelon in the likes of The Sixth Sense, Signs etc. Completely forgot about the twist at the end, it was satisfying this time around.
Was fun to see the kid leads prior to Better Watch Out acting together.
]]>Always and forever - my crown jewel. 💎
]]>Well, I appreciate the craft that went into this, but it just didn’t quite stick the landing for me.
]]>😋🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🪱🤤
]]>I’m here for this film. 👽
]]>Enjoyed the hell out of this film in high school, enjoyed the hell out of this film at 40. It’s a total gut punch given Paul Walker’s fate, nonetheless, this is still a rock em sock crime-action / street racing extravaganza.
]]>I’m going to go against the grain here.
This film got a lot of slack, but honestly, it’s completely sufficient and stuck the landing on what It was setting out to achieve. Ghastly practical effects, great cinematography, a fun canon cameo, and a brutally menacing Leatherface. Enjoyed it as much the second go around as I did the first back in ‘22.
]]>This definitely did not go in the direction that I thought it would, but was thoroughly entertained throughout. Recommend this. 🏄
]]>Brutal.
]]>Gun fights, loud characters, boom boom, gun fights, Christopher Walken.
]]>Wacky, zany, an overindulgent Ramone’s / PJ soles infused product of its time. Undoubtedly a loose precursor to the plot of Detroit Rock City. Fun stuff. 🎸
]]>A bit slow in the first act, but once it gets going, it becomes an unrelenting pocket full of white knuckle nitroglycerin. Late 70’s era TG score is the icing on the cake. 💣
]]>Not for the faint of heart, this is the real deal. I can see how STREETWISE well influenced flocks of displaced youth feature narratives.
]]>Tonight’s viewing (March ‘25) was probably the 7th or 8th time I’ve seen this (since first seeing it around 7 years ago). And let me tell you, it’s still packs the almighty punch. I’m not sure if it’s the raw nature of the production, the stand out performances from the ensemble, or just the visceral gut punch that the entire package presents. But this is definitely my favorite down and out, coming of age story about the underbelly runaway youth of Los Angeles circa ‘92.
]]>Landis presents his masterclass in horror humor-adorned lycanthrope satire. Like a fine wine, this collection of celluloid just gets better and better with each viewing. 🐺
]]>Visually stunning and some at times, original themes within this intergalactic sci-satire - but the dense runtime made this feel bogged down / somewhat of a chore to get through.
Mark Trumpalo
]]>Disgusting, depraved. I forced myself through this “film” just to get to the ending of this reprehensible franchise. Never again
]]>Watched on Wednesday March 5, 2025.
]]>Clever narrative merged with goopy practical body horror & tense atmosphere - Mr. Pieper has stuck the landing here. 🦞
]]>Contender for the strangest fever dream head scratcher of the year. Bonus half star for the Maximum Overdrive vibes at the end. 🥁🐒
]]>One of the most vile and reprehensible films I’ve seen in a while, once was too much.
]]>Gross - not for me.
]]>A bit too much fluff and clunky pacing for my taste, a few memorable kill sequences. The cinematography & lighting was the stand out aspect for me.
]]>The film was a blast for its respective sub genre. Although, I wish that they better utilized the 100% intelligence mechanism. Thought she was going to go full on LUCY mode.
]]>If I hear the term “Dutch boy” one more time..
]]>My parents really regretted taking us kids to the theatre to see this back in ‘92. 🙈🙉🙊
]]>Hollywood sleaze, dreadful musical motifs, Kevin Bacon.
