“The promise of the Divine is but an illusion.
Nothing in this world is pure”
I love a good religious cult on a secluded island film trope!!! There are some pretty interesting themes which were shown enough to create an aesthetic and an intrigue. The lore is mostly left to our imagination as viewers, which is quite unfortunate in this case because some things didn’t really make any sense. Michael Sheen is absolutely outstanding and wonderful in this though.
This film truly is the definition of visual poetry and it’s definitely one of Jarman’s finest and most important works in my opinion!! It was an extraordinary sensory experience and it should be on everyone’s watchlist, especially of those who are part of the LGBTQ+ community
]]>Helter Skelter is a captivating film that explores the corrosive effects of beauty and fame in depth.
With an impressive visual style and an outstanding performance by Erika Sawajiri, it leaves a lasting impression, although its gloomy atmosphere and irregular rhythm may not be to everyone's taste. It is undoubtedly a recommended work for those interested in contemporary Japanese cinema that defies the norms of the genre.
Rejecting the allure of technological spectacle, Tarkovsky reimagines the science fiction genre in Solaris, crafting a deeply human and introspective story. The film unfolds largely within the unruly confines of a spaceship, with the swirling, sentient ocean of planet Solaris looming below.
“We have no need of other worlds, we need mirrors"
An anchoring sentiment of the film, is a prescient insight-that scientific engagement with space is more about ourselves rather than investigating foreign bodies. Space is the vast field onto which we project our dreams, fears, and egoisms. Its ostensibly blank canvas suggests the promise of reconstruction without context, yet humans are inescapably burdened with context.
Cosmic mysteries remain unknowable; the only fruitful exploration lies in confrontation with the subconscious.
]]>This film is ageing really well for the time being, the special effects are of quality, the characters are endearing, even though some of them are not quite developed enough in my opinion. There's a sense of wonder and amazement that we get and a bunch of optimism that's lacking nowadays. It’s not the best film I’ve seen but it was most definitely enjoyable!
]]>This is truly my comfort horror film (Probably because I have a huge crush on Vera Farmiga)
]]>This is such beautiful movie and it made me cry so much!! The phenomenal performances, the nostalgic and contrasting colours between Sophie and Calum on an individual level, a tender parental chemistry along with a simple script makes this a spectacular film. It does things so well that it allows me to feel my emotions on the surface of my skin in a unique way. The final scene is a hug to the intimacy of both characters, simply incredible!!!
]]>watched this right before work, even sharkula was better </3
]]>no but i really loved the ending oh my god!!!! 🤍
]]>Truly nobody plays a fragile brunette man having the worst time of his life like Nicholas Hoult!!
The cinematography in this film is so incredible, the colour grading is phenomenal, every shot looks like it could be a painting from the very era it depicts!! The use of black and white allows the original to make its presence known while still allowing this film to feel distinct. I'm a huge fan of the focus on Ellen not just as a damsel in distress but a young woman facing and fighting the trauma of her past as it returns to bare its teeth. All of the women in this film really suffer, but it feels like it is to make a point rather than just to make them pretty objects of sorrow. Standout performances for me are Willem Dafoe, Nicholas Hoult and obviously Lily-Rose Depp!! Bill Skarsgård is also great but he gets so lost in the character of Orlok that it made me forget someone is actually playing him (not necessarily a bad thing!!). This is a wonderful film and Robert Eggers has, I'm sure, many new fans
this short film is actually brilliant!!! i loved it so much
]]>A film designed purely to entertain the audience with its version of the traditional cat and mouse story between the protagonist and the antagonist. Jason Bateman is the clear standout and it’s a well made Christmas thriller. The copaganda in this film is a huge
disappointment though, i don’t want to see that :/

]]>All I can say is WOW… this movie is amazing and insane. Body horror and gore hound horror fans are going to love this. As someone that enjoyed Coralie Fargeat’s previous film, this is a magnificent follow up!!! The message of a woman feeling vulnerable and insecure due to her aging body is so in your face. I love how it hits you like a sledgehammer because it kept it engaging throughout the whole film!!! It just left me completely speechless and oh my god… I NEED MORE!!!!
]]>Naomi Scott acted the fuck out of her role, she carried the film for real!! I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would because it’s more of a remake rather than a sequel. There’s almost no lore regarding the first film which was a disappointment in my personal opinion!! It was definitely tense and exciting throughout and the ending was in fact A LOT better than the first film!!!
]]>I saw this with Hannah and I think it’s safe to say we will never recover from this! It was actual perfection!!! I’m glad it was all slowed down to delve into the plot which is more intricate and significant than I ever realized. I knew nothing going into this as I haven’t seen the broadway musical and I’m not the biggest musical fan in general, but I was completely blown away. It was just unbelievably magical and overwhelming in the best way possible!!! It really felt like I was being pressed back in my seat by the sheer force of what was happening on screen. I got an insane amount of chills, especially during ‘Defying Gravity’. The colour scheme is so wonderful and I wish those colours were everywhere in real life. I can’t wait to watch this again as soon as I can!!
]]>yes of course i love a quirky film about a bloodthirsty pet spider who grows enormous
]]>I was misled by the initial eerie vibes. I appreciated the storyline since it had potential to become something more, something great actually… but it fell flat during the second half. The design of the fae were wonderfully made though, they looked really cool and I think that is actually my favourite thing about this whole film.
]]>I was much more impressed with the first film, during that I managed to understand the concepts, criticisms and the whole philosophical part of it. This film happens to take place before the first, but it was something so the same, I personally think they could’ve explored and elaborated more of the concepts and the whole universe in general. The scenes with the random children did not make sense at all for example. I went in watching it with high expectations but it was quite a disappointment, this film did not have to be made, the first one is good enough as it is!! Not everything needs to have a prequel or sequel.
]]>One of the more fun Stephen King films. I like how the film went wild with vampires invading a town, but if you like the characters and the slow pacing of the book, you will probably not like it. The characters were bland and not well written and the pacing felt odd and sort of funky…
]]>Tremendous performances and very clever writing in a nonlinear narrative! Both lead characters are very complex and the film does a wonderful job at challenging your perception of them.
Without giving anything away, the film manages to keep you guessing and build the tension from its opening scene until the final one.
meer mens dan dier 😭
anyway ik heb deze heel random gratis gezien vandaag met noortje omdat ze net klaar was met werken toen ik langs ging bij de cinema om een sollicitatieformulier te halen
this is a very well made film that i thoroughly enjoyed, it’s a campy thrill ride that keeps your attention and focus on the screen (and that says a lot coming from an easily distracted person like me)
the progression from the beginning in lively spain towards the island that is quite eerie and chilling is wonderfully done!!
the ending was marvellous, absolutely nerve wrecking, and simply brilliant!!
]]>the focus is on the development of symbolism and the various layers of meaning that surround the narrative! the story is very interesting and original, the cinematography is beautiful and the acting is absolutely wonderful.
the ending though, was quite disappointing in my personal opinion but that doesn’t take away that it is an excellent film that i really enjoyed!
(watched it together with finn ♡)
]]>SO MANY RATS
]]>This review may contain spoilers.
what do you mean you’re too scared to save your own child?!? (i did not like this movie)
]]>not the best movie i’ve watched but it was certainly entertaining… besides that i don’t really have anything else to say about it
]]>why are there so many songs in this?!? kind of disappointed in this film as i was expecting myself to give it 5 stars since i have a tornado hyperfixation but i don’t know… hmmm
]]>de tweede is iets minder goed maar we waren eigenlijk ook vooral veel aan het praten oops
]]>letterlijk zo een goeie film!!! gekeken op filmavond met vrienden :)
]]>i’m gonna have to watch this again because there was so much going on in a really weird and insane way….
it is really good tho, so 4.5 stars which might turn into 5 stars when i understand the second half of the movie better!!
this was recommended to me by finn and i’m really glad they told me about this movie because damn, what an absolute masterpiece it is!!!
it’s insane, gore and hot all at the same time, i don’t really have the right words to describe it and do it justice. I LOVED EVERY SINGLE PART OF IT!!!!
