a beautiful film about life. an exploration of oneself, friendship, and sex leading to something melancholic as if life is slipping away. the brutality of self discovery and the fear that comes with it. the realization that relationships, and even unbreakable friendships, are temporary. from spending each day together, to catching up in a cafe, to agreeing to meet only to never see one another again. our moments and experiences are all fleeting. so maybe it is time to appreciate life and live to the fullest. to give yourself away like the sea.

a beautiful and lonely anime

ghosts of their past. all searching for closures, answers, and memories. drifting through space, they find themselves returning to the places they have the most regrets. such are the duties of the life a space cowboy lives. 

the unlikely comrades who argue and annoy one another have inevitably become a family. and perhaps the universe began to feel a little less lonely for them. but, of course, nothing lasts forever. goodbyes and endings are inevitable. and in those goodbyes, one realizes just how close they have become. 

friends parting ways without knowing if they will meet again. and a friend begging for another to stay. but in the end, there is nothing to do but accept. it’s what being human is all about. life will move on, and a finger gun will point to the camera.

and so whatever happens, happens.

a horror movie stemmed from a single person’s greed, leaving behind incurable family trauma in his bloodline. 

from the gore to the plot that set this supernatural occurrence in motion, to the scenes where the devil transformed into spiderman and darth vader (as my brother in law’s brother likes to describe it). overall it was pretty fun though not very memorable. probably will forget this film in the next few days once again (i did not anything from my first watch).

HERE’S TO THE FUTURE
a trilogy so iconic that it still stands in the future and will withstand the future’s future! finally finished this series after 4 years… 

a back to the future film set in the western era, infused with heart, a doc romance, and character development. surprisingly quite emotional film that i undeniably understand why this trilogy has   garnered so many fans. and this, the final installment of the trilogy tells us our choices and actions today do matter ! so take control of your future now!

“it means your future hasn’t been written yet. no one’s has. your future is whatever you make it, so make it a good one.“

the end of an iconic series.

you didn’t become the person she imagined you to be. and she is not the person you imagined her to be.
we all have dreamed of a life with no regrets, of a version of ourselves that had tried harder. but that’s not life.
life moves on. and hopefully one day, you will make peace with the past. you will scream into the sky and finally you will move on.
i often think about the person i was when i was with him. and every time i see her, i think to myself how proud i am of who i have become. i will never regret meeting him.

i am devastatingly devastated. i’m watching too many sad romance these few days i’m running out of ideas of what to say

and there it is, hope was born! surrounded by those who claim to be religious while striving for power and war and hatred, there lies a person who uses religion as it was truly intended. a person who strives for modernity and unity and acceptance. and even though i think i can never be truly religious, that is someone i can’t help but ire. 

10/10 a gossip girl film on one’s faith.
ralph fiennes the man you are. a diva. 
i will be honest… i’ve been rooting for conclave the entire awards season without ever seeing it or most of the other nominated films. maybe i knew deep down that i will love this film. fun.

“all memories are traces of tears.”

another wong kar wai masterpiece, another gorgeous yet depressing film. to be honest, my tiny little brain had to work extra hard to write this review beyond just saying i have no words. wkw just loves to see me suffer. so here it is, my two cents:

love can leave scars that are unseen yet unforgotten. and despite it all, you find yourself searching again and again for someone, something, to fill the void. chasing even a glimpse of what once was. and without ever realizing it, you begin seeking that person in everyone you meet. and without realizing it, at some point in my life, i endlessly compared every love to the first because deep down i hadn’t healed. and neither had chow… but in time, these scars will eventually fade. and hopefully we will one day be in the right place at the right time to find the right person.

this is love. the knife you turn inside yourself. silently unfolding with each ing day. all the times we had love. and all the times that love led to only memories. the fleeting nature of love and the memories that last a lifetime. so present yet unreachable. a phantom of what once was.

utterly stunning and breathtaking. witnessing this in imax was truly a different experience, one that i will always .

a film, crafted by human hands, on the exploration of space for survival, but more importantly, exploration of the human soul. of what it means to be human. a meditation on the relentless instinct to survive — the lengths one is willing to go for the survival of oneself, of all humanity, and of loved ones.

on a lonely faraway journey, are you prepared to face the truth or will your cowardice masked as your survival instinct lead you to destroy your own humanity?

and yet beyond all this, beyond space and mankind’s fight for existence remains the regret of a parent, of leaving their children behind. and there remains the regret of a child, of unspoken words. the missed conversations, lost time, and the weight of what could have been. the age of time is truly unforgiving.

“What does research tell us is the last thing you’re going to see before you die? Your children. Their faces. At the moment of death, your mind is going to push you a little bit harder to survive. For them.”

the mortality of life and the insignificance of our existence.
all of our experiences, all of our memories, just a speck of dust. they will be ‘lost in time, like tears in the rain.’ we will be forgotten, disappear, die. in the end, androids are just humans, afraid of their own death.
but death is a constant. so live in the moment. runaway with a replicant. who will live anyway? and maybe, in this moment, our lives are important.

humans, cyborgs, AI. what defines a human being? in a world where one wonders if a machine can create a soul, the line between human and artificial begins to blur.

who wouldnt?

the somber history of america and its paranoia towards ones own neighbors or in this case ones own children. a prideful man leading his family to isolation and sin. all succumbed to their shortcomings.

robert eggers’ first film and coincidentally my first non jump scare slow burn horror movie. could not help but confess i did not enjoy this when i first saw it. i couln’t appreciate it or to be more honest couldn’t understand the english. thou wouldst not expect a girl whose mother tongue is not the english language and who excelled not in english class to understand the conversations. wouldst thou? aye.

but worry not for i have since become somewhat more literate in the english language and illiterate in mine own mother tongue (curse thee western validation!!). now do i understand the brilliance of the script. a coming of age story. and how most of all i appreciate robert eggers for giving the leading role upon mine anya taylor joy.

“Which would be worse - to live as a monster, or to die as a good man?”

a captivating psychological thriller with such incredible atmosphere that you can’t help but feel the eeriness even upon rewatch. knowing the ending, i still had fun focusing on the details scorsese meticulously crafted. a tragic story woven into a mystery. and more importantly, a lighthouse, once a beacon of safety and direction, now looms in the background, isolated and doomed. claustrophobia all around (this film literally made me love lighthouses. the vibe is just truly immaculate)

i still to this day the first time i saw this movie. it was on a boat in the middle of the sea at night... nowhere to go, surrounded by utter darkness. god what an experience. isn’t it wonderful how films can create such lasting memories. flaws and all, this might be my favorite scorsese film.

fyi i’m currently in the mood to rewatch any films i used to love but havent seen in the past few years lol

oh how could i have forgotten how much i loved this film. it also truly surprised me how strongly i associated it with my family and childhood. just so nostalgic. rewatching this, it is as though i was reconnecting with a dear old friend, like finding something i didn’t even know i had lost as a child. so beautiful and filled with so much happiness that it made me cry. a classic. films truly can be so magical and wonderful.

“My life is full because I know that I am loved”

such shocking and somber news. i have nothing more to add that hasn’t already been said. while i don’t know much about films, i’ve come to appreciate his surreal and dreamlike work. his films and shows are so unique and authentic to him that he will forever live on through his work, his influences, and in our hearts.

“Oh, never. Nothing will die. The stream flows, the wind blows, the cloud fleets, the heart beats. Nothing will die.”

regarding the elephant man, i have always wanted to watch this film, a study in human dignity. i thought it would be fitting to finally see this movie to honor him. david lynch masterfully created a sincere and sympathetic work that doesn’t shy away from depicting the terrible mistreatment of john merrick. society and prejudice so often go hand in hand. despite the horrors and despicable actions merrick endured, lynch, with care and respect, infused the movie with warmth through merrick himself and those who grew to care for him (even when one almost treated him the same as those who exploited him). there were acceptance, happiness, hope, and love.

another thing is, i have always seen david lynch as a sincere filmmaker, and this movie solidified that even more. a one of a kind director.

my heart goes out to his family and loved ones. may he be at peace.

rewatched this in january? yes i know, it’s a month late, but hey blame my work. just so you know they just celebrated christmas today, which brought me here… 

rewatching this i couldn’t get over the aesthetic and honestly the vibe — the highlights of the movie. the characters are such fantastically designed. jack and sally and his dog are as iconic as ever. i was surprised by how much i ed the songs to be honest.

on paper i should have been obsessed with this movie as a child: 1. stop motion animation, 2. creepy. i honestly wonder if i had celebrated halloween and christmas, would i have loved this movie more as a child? well we will never know.

as someone who is now employed, however… the mundanity of life can feel so… empty. a sense of dissatisfaction that one might not have felt before. a kind of unfulfillment that could lead one to chase something glittery and new, a new project to find contentment, to break the routine. yet there’s always a chance that this new project is not even meant for you. jack was having a job burnout. so true and relatable of the pumpkin king!

And for the first time since I don't when
I felt just like my old bony self again…

barbara was so real caring for lydia.
i’m not sure why it took me so long to watch this. i really deprived my younger self of the chance to experience this movie. i would have absolutely devoured it if i had seen it as a kid. perhaps it took me this long because, for some inexplicable reason, i was afraid i wouldn’t enjoy it. glad the movie proved me so wrong. i now know why this movie is so popular and beloved. such an interesting and original premise with such fun visuals. with time, i might end up loving it even more.
