Rebel Ridge

Despite the familiar premise, “Rebel Ridge” rises while practicing restraint. It is measured in its actions, flamboyant in the dialogues, and deeply relevant in its depiction of societal injustice.

Aaron Pierre as Terry Richmond is a revelation. The commanding physicality of Pierre brings a suave energy and calculated invincibility while being pitted against the testosterone alliance of the police forces.

The Ballad of Wallis Island

2025

★★★★ Liked Watched

"The Ballad of Wallis Island" can be best described through an event that epitomizes the fictional ‘Wallis Island.’ When Herb McGwyer visits the only grocery store on the island for a bag of rice, to rectify the water damage on his phone, he does not get that. Instead, he leaves the store with a rice pudding. Pravinkoodu Shappu

Malayalam dark comedy thriller “Pravinkoodu Shappu” marks an eye-catching debut for writer-director Sreeraj Sreenivasan. Set in the pastoral landscape of rural Kerala, this whodunit niftily works with Agatha Christie-esque twists with a fair amount of absurd humor. And it does that with style, with some fantastic action pieces that show the potential of the debuting filmmaker.

Talvar

2015

★★★★½ Liked 1

Strictly in of films, Talvar is an excellent thriller where a whodunnit story is retold from various outlooks. It grips you from the first frame and does not relinquish even after the film finishes.

Being an Indian, I can note what this films also tries to illustrate the gaping holes our country's crime solving techniques, where a Criminal is found first and then motif and modus operandi are thought of. Based on the infamous Noida double murder case, this films strictly follows the events and shows how politician, police and media all played parts in it.

A film that needs to be seen

"Sinners" shifts gear and changes directions with both the smoothness and recklessness of a podium bound Formula 1 car. What a thrilling ride.
