Some genuinely tremendous indie filmmaking that unfortunately suffers in the second half - what felt nuanced becomes ham-handed (using literal rape as metaphor for capitalistic greed being one choice example). Incredibly performed, shot, and scored. The first half was incomparable. Opening sequence incomparable. Ultimately it seems like Corbet tried to answer too many of the film’s questions and “make a statement.”
