Narivetta and it's muddled politics is a testament to the fact that malayalam cinema drill doesn't know how to handle caste opression and state terrorism. It goes along the easy route and it's quite disheartening, even if the director had his heart in the right place.

1. Using The Adivasi struggle as a backdrop to tell a story of a racist, opportunistic, power - hungry cop reforming his ways sounds seriously wrong. They try to essentially just present him as a misjudged and naive policeman in the hands of the system - even when he actively engages in the discrimination and police brutality without being prompted. It seemed as if the writer didn't know what to do with his character, and it just ended up as really shallow. We are apparently supposed to care for the relationship of Basheer and Varghese just because they showed a few scenes of them together. The lack of nuance in presenting the character forces the director to use the uprising of the adivasi people as a tool for character development, but it felt dishonest and distasteful to the issue at hand.

2. The fact that Varghese only wakes up to the brutality committed by his superiors only due to *that* incident felt really bad for me. It again betrays the character's own ideals and what he stands for, as later in the film he seems to care for the downtrodden then he again emphasises it's just cause of *that* incident and then it again goes back - as I said before it shows a lack of cohesion in sketching out the character.

Tovino tries so hard to channel some genuine emotions, but it fails so hard and it proved detrimental to my viewing experience even further. He was poor with his slang, how he carried himself as an officer, and he was bad at expressing emotions. Opening your mouth and acting as constipated won't help to convey sadness and helplessness. It's just funny.

I wish filmmakers stopped using caste based violence as a tool for your privileged upper class hero's empowerment and character development. Just like rape being used as your male hero's revenge catalyst. I'm so tired of it.

Ever since he hung down from the roof in 1996 for the first installment, Tom Cruise has been doing it year after year - constantly pushing the limits of action cinema for the viewers and anyone who wishes to escape their lives for a little while and indulge in some fantasy world. He has time and again stood for the common people - the set workers, the theatre staff - he has been a people's man. Cruise has always managed to channel that personality into Ethan Hunt - a man who puts his life in line for the world, making sacrifices for his team, always getting it done. That's why no matter what comes, I will always love these movies. It may be exposition heavy or too talky, but it never fails to capture what cinema truly is all about. Leaning into the edge of my seats as Ethan Hunt dives deep into the water or too tensed to even blink while he dangles from a biplane - movies are always about making us feel. The man knows that, and he does this just for the love of the game. I always know what I am gonna get with these movies, but I still sit in awe. Cruise said he is gonna be making movies into his 100s, and I know no matter how bad it will be, I will always be there just to see what this man has cooked up.

No matter how many times I watch this, I am always so fucking amazed at this. How well put together this is. There are like so many moments where some simple mistake could have toppled the entire script but this is like airtight writing. Drishyam 2 pales in comparison because without that twist, it's a nothing story. After 4 years, I don't anything about that movie apart from that ending. But, with this every time I rewatch this I rant again and again about how good everything is - it's so simple but everything makes sense.

I think it's mainly because not a single scene feel wasted. I have seen some people saying that you could make an argument for that initial 45 minutes, but the movie wouldn't work without it. The family dynamics will fail, Georgekutty's framing as " just a 4th grader " won't have any impact and neither will we get the rivalry between Sahadevan and him. It sets up so many things rather than just being filler.

I think everything that follows after the interval scene is perfect scene to perfect scene. So many places where i just sat in awe. I still the first time I saw this in theatre. The reveal. Still don't think there is any better way to deliver that. It's not even acknowledged or anything, just the raw visual power of the scene makes us sit glued. It's awesome. Just think about it - every year on August 2 we see random posts reminding us of the date Georgekutty went for the prayee. Has there been a more influential movie in recent times ? An industry game - changer. Drishyam is to 2010s malayalam what Manichithrathazhu was to 90s malayalam. Monumental.

it's not petta - but it's definitely something, I mean I can imagine Adhik repeatedly watching the Thala intro scene and furiously jerking it till he finishes , he pulls and stitches together all this batshit insane stuff to justify his erotic fantasy of Thala and it's something that has to be seen to be believed - I have never seen Thala enjoying himself this much since Vedalam and I feel like the Mankatha comparisons need to die down - this is entirely different and I loved so many stuff about it - The Darkeys' cameo , Thottu Thottu Pesum Sulthana, Motta Bank Bank Motta, Simran, the references - even the cringe dialogues make sense, and I love sometimes when movies don't give a fuck. Balls.

sinners' most striking aspect might not even be the music or the horror or the obvious underlying themes of racism, appropration - it's Coogler constantly, without fail, managing to use every common tropes and deconstruct and rehash it into something which feels alive, the cinema and the art works only if it breathes and sinners feels like one. Not only the blues music acting as a liberation for the black folks, it's the characters who stands front and centre. At times, it made me squirm, at times it made me smile in glee. It feels messy, it feels too-much, but that's the point. It's a pulsating, riveting gothic dreamscape of the horrors of the past. It's proudly bashy. It's good.

Cinema is glorious.

god-tier screenplay in how it incorporates little character traits to make this even more enjoyable, like mullan chandrappan wearing a cooling glass over his mask and how it just manages to never lose it's string of humour even in emotional moments - Vasco lamenting how he would never open a rival thattukada against his father. It's all those little moments that make this movie so memorable and so everlasting. Even after 18 years, it's still as good as the time when 5-year old ne saw it. So much hyped for the re-release.

The entire theatre (and me) was shaking and screaming and crying and shouting so hard during the second half. Mohanlal in his element is truly something to witness. The menacing looks, the iconic walk, the way the eyes act - Tharun Moorthy have used him so much better than the so called fanboy did in the Sancharam ripoff. It's a travesty that the screenplay and dialogues feel so amateurish in comparison. And once again a director proves he doesn't know how to handle violence against women. I was so impressed by a 20 minute stretch pre-interval that I wished Moorthy would take this in a different direction. But he succumbed to a tried and tested formula - but fuck it. That leading man made up for all that shit. You can't look away.

omar Lulu's Twenty 20 - each moment some clown shows up and say the most random shit ever. A guy says he is sigma male and a lady asks him if he is gay, a man paints the flag of in his face, bala shows up and beats up movie reviewers, shankar shows up as a college student, rahman becomes turbo jose, sheelu abraham-tiny tom horny compilation, drug free society that vikram envisioned, but one thing stays the same - Dhyan Sreenivasan giving the worst performance in an even worse movie - truly the oppenheimer of mollywood, this isn't even bad it's just a seperate type of artstyle that truly needs to be witnessed and it helped that I was really sleepy cause everything felt like fever dream. Now I have memories of events like a far fetched dream that I saw.

Khalid Rahman has the most interesting visual language among the present malayalam filmmakers. He understands that good camerawork is not just pretty screenshot worthy images and pinterest aesthetics but something to progress the story further. Whether it is Thallumaala or Alappuzha Gymkhaana, his eye for relentless rythmic photography and kinetic frames never ceases. Placing the camera in the back, front, diagonally, rotating, zooming in - he does everything on the book to soak you into the boxing. You feel every punch on your face, you want them to beat the shit out of their opponents, you cheer with them. Naslen's just playing his usual charming guy-next-door stuff again and at this point he has perfected it. But it's actually Lukman who does all the heavy lifting in this one. The looks, the towering demeanor, the walk - everything was just perfect. The accent was a little off, but he overcame it with his body language. Most of the jokes worked for me and I could understand why Rahman chose to end the way he did. After all, no character's integrity or realism is butchered to play to the gallery and I loved him for it. The most aimless thing however was the whole subplot involving Jojo and the girls. I don't know what that was supposed to offer to the story and it didn't contribute to the character in any way. It was just for namesake.But it's no simple feat to make such a effortlessly hip and simple story work so well. I wish people gave this more credit.

ഭീഷ്മ പർവത്തിൽ ഇക്ക പറയുന്ന ഒരു ഡയലോഗ് ഉണ്ട് - " പക്ഷേ ഞാൻ എപ്പോ മരിക്കണം എന്ന് ഞാൻ തീരുമാനിക്കണം അല്ലോ ". ഇതിന്റെ ക്ലൈമാക്സ്‌ കണ്ട് അതാണ് ഓർമ വന്നത്. ഇക്കയെ തോല്പിക്കാൻ അങ്ങേർക്ക് തന്നെ പറ്റുള്ളൂ.

Very hard to rate.

Sajin Gopu is like a gift that keeps on giving. You can't look away from him when he is on the screen. There is simply so much ion in his performances, whether it's Mariyano or Ambaan or Suku. Dialling up everything to a 100 and never feeling like bad acting is something hard to do.

As for the movie, it's certainly interesting. I feel like the screenplay is designed to work only if you are willing to give a for its over the top nature. There is so much things at play here, and it worked most of the time for me. The ending felt strangely understandable? I didn't feel like Jithu Madhavan justified Suku, rather it was an expression of his innate mind. It did seem like they had so much ideas for the ending and ended up just mashing it up and doing something. The cringe, loud, sigma facebook boy trope is hard to resolve, so I am happy with what happened at the end. The jokes worked for me too, even though its a little forced. As I have said before, even a bad line can be made good with the right actors. Here it's the case.

Prithviraj said in an interview what makes an action scene memorable is the buildup to the action, not the action sequence itself. It seems like he has kept it as his mantra - evident from the jungle poli scene. Humongous, creative second intro that probably had the biggest theatre reaction to a scene that I have seen in my life, and then just for the director to shoot it like shit. The whole movie is like this - a string of missed opportunities, and it is really disappointing when you finish a movie and have to say - Is that It?

It's like a comical misunderstanding of what made the first movie work. Lucifer is Stephen Nedumpally. Govardhan named Stephen as Lucifer, not Khureshi Abr'am. By not following the journey of Stephen unlike the first film, Prithviraj allows the movie to run aimlessly, without any clue what to do with the character. One moment he is running havoc in Iraq, next moment he is back in Kerala, next moment he is back as Abr'am again? In Mumbai ? It seemed like the director's and writer's own greed and pretentiousness at trying to make this a pan-Indian fair came at the cost of failing to understand their own characters. It's evident from that one scene where he appears as Stephen Nedumbally that it was all the people wanted. Not global conspiracies, international gang wars or faux intellectual politics.

It's also so very boring most of the times, with no sort of novelty or gravitas to any scene. They try to just imitate scenes from Lucifer and fail miserably. Repititive music, boring blocking, laughably bad dialogues and so many scenes that doesn't have any resolution. And why so many unnecessary characters? Why so many unnecessary scenes? And it is painful to sit through Murali Gopi's self-serious philosophical musings. He really doesn't know when to stop. And one of the worst climax sequences. I was so surprised that Prithviraj of all people thought up that shit. Still, to think all this hype and all this celebrations was just for this. So disappointed.

How did this turn out to be so fucking good? I really didn't expect anything from this one other than some time. Imagine my surprise when it morphs into a character study of it's two central characters. The conversation that Mariano and Ajesh have near the tea shop - I was glued. I loved how they shifted the power dynamics throughout the scene without even a single fight. The discussion about the working class struggles is so fleshed out - Ajesh realising that Mariano is someone who is also trying to make ends meet - and then it slowly becoming a fight for survival. The dialogues are sharp, the performances are so nice - I was so amazed at how each character was perfectly casted, even Basil Joseph playing against his type - and there is so much tension in the air always. Really loved how they built up the conflict only to completely deconstruct it and use it as a medium to talk about shifting moralities and class battles. Love, Love, Loved this little movie so much.

i love when filmmakers decide to not give a shit to the rules and just ionately build their hero worship movies with whatever stuff look the coolest - like a beheading scene on horsetop against a burning jungle, or a shot of dripping water slowly mixing with blood - like they don't give a shit if it's realistic. They just want to elevate their hero to the maximum. Daaku Maharaj's biggest aspect is this - Bobby Kolli beautifully realising each and every action and mass scene from the heart even when the emotional scenes fail miserably. Balayya is a towering presence no matter how much people tend to mock him. And even better - it has a woman actually beating up her ab for a change, a dacoit revolution of the working class against their capitalist managers, the hero teaching the women how to shoot, etc. Take away Balayya's weird pervy scenes wth Urvashi akka, and this would have been even less cringe.

a very nice history book. Adrien Brody is marvelous, but I don't feel it is the epic that everyone makes it out to be. It's deconstruction of the American dream and immigrant struggles is noteworthy, but it didn't make me feel that much in a cinematic sense. I enjoyed Van Buren's and Toth's relationship in the first act, but I felt like towards the third act, it was aimless . It's so carefully edited, precisely shot to the point where it feels like too artificial. It's a movie I can watch and enjoy for it's filmmaking and then immediately forget after three days.

Sing Sing just feels from the heart. Talking about how the broken US prison system oppresses it's inhabitants, it seeks to present art as a catharsis. It's powerful and moving, cause everything just feels so pleasant. Whether it is the scene of them all dancing, or the scene where Divine G feels the wind blowing against his face after a long time, or the heartfelt conversations everyone have with each other - everything feels so real. I understand that conflicts are resolved easily, but I get it. It's meant to imbue warmness and hope in our hearts in an attempt to humanise people wrongly accused of crimes they did not commit and seeing to find who they once were. I think I love this so much cause it oncr again establishes that art has the power to move mountains. Beautiful piece of filmmaking.

There is so much problematic storytelling incorporated here - from the stereotypical portrayal of Bangalore Gen Z and the overindulgence of using rape as a plot point to move the story forward whenever there is some lack of any novelty - but the worst thing about this is finally giving Kunchacko Boban the role he had been dreaming for, just for it to turn out to be an average movie. Shahi Kabir's weakest and most try-hard movie till now. I believe this was written at the director's request and not something Kabir actually wanted to write, because this is way more action-oriented and shallow than all three of his previous outings. The first half flowed really well, but the second and third acts really dragged along aimlessly and after a point, everyone understood what was gonna happen. The weak technical work and lame music didn't help either. Goofiest, most unintentionally funny villain gang I have ever seen in my life - complete with 'cool' internet slang. After a point, I just wanted Chackochan to mercilessly murder everyone cause I couldn't suffer anymore of that dialogue delivery.

( The shoot of this happened in my college and they had called us as junior artists, but we woke up late and missed the chance to meet Chackochan. Sadness.)

definitely not even half as bad as I thought it would be on a rewatch - it's even kinda fun Ranbir Kapoor once again being the king of leaving weddings early - there is so much melodrama here but also some honest heart and fun. All the songs are amazing and its even better when you are dancing with your gf and a whole other gang infront of the screen.

One Year of the biggest romantic movie ever in Malayalam cinema.

Premalu was really a sensation, right? It gave everyone that lost sense of community theatre experience after a long time, I saw lots of people saying it was painfully relatable and it just felt good. I wanted to check if it was the same on second vieweing. I have to say, it's even better. Knowing fully well how they end up together, I think it's even more enjoyable seeing everything play out. I didn't notice in the first watch how good the jokes were cause I was just trying to enjoy, but it's miraculous everything worked so well in this, since it's basically so many pop culture references and stuff. Reenu's confession scene from the car is like - no words. Just banger.

Gireesh AD, man. You are the Thala.

no matter how much time will , I think this would still be sadly socially relevant for years to come. The scene where the little girl in typical swami attire gifts fruits to nimisha who has been banished cause she is on her periods - right after the sabarimala women entry debate is shown on tv - is perhaps the simplest and most powerful scene in the whole ordeal. Still as good as the first time I watched it 4 years ago.

george miller understands action like no one else in the present state of modern blockbusters, he gave us the greatest action movie ever with fury road and then this ridiculous, blazing, greek epic kinda madness - there are movies which makes you say " I love cinema " and there are movies which make you say " I LOVE CINEMAAAAAAAA ", this belongs to the second category.

would have been a lot better if Joju actually maintained a consistent tone throughout, as some of the scenes are staged really well, but this is like the oldest wine in the same old bottle. Also I wouldn't wanna get in the way of Joju's punches. It looked so sick seeing him hurling absolute 'quintal idi' in the climax. Nothing much else to say.

not even half as bad as people make it out to be. Also as a cis man, I don't think I am able to comment on how this protrays the trans experience, but even the dumbest could probably sense there is something really wrong here. For once, emilia perez wouldn't smell like Manitas - a simple google search would have fixed this. Also was very weird how at times it seems that Emilia is still stuck as Manitas - and I felt that it was rather very cruel and regressive to make ot out as so. There is also the weird scene where the doctor and Rita - two cis people- discuss about trans identity without any trans people present. Even with all this, Karla Sofia Gascn delivers a powerhouse performance, one for the ages ed firmly by Saldana's really over-the-top, campy character. It's so much in scope and spectacle, yet very little in substance. Not at all boring, but I felt like the director now knowing the language and culture had a huge detrimental effect on the movie in general. The songs are a hit or miss, and the tonal inconsistencies really pull this down from being an enjoyable experience. Often, I felt like this is gonna go ofd the rails, but then they try to switch genres and it becomes uninteresting. And fuck Oscars.

GVM, retire man. It's over. You had your glory years. Why drag someone who is doing well also in to your mess? Mammootty Kompany was having a good time and bulding up insane reputation and then they go on and make shit like this. I'm pretty sure Ikka heard 'detective', 'sherlock holmes', 'quirky' and thought this would work. The worst thing is that he actually completely embraces the cartoonish nature of the character. But the director himself is confused whether to utilise the star value of his lead or stay true to the character. As a result, everything turns into a mess. And all of Ikka's entertaining acting is lost in this mess.

Really lacklustre writing, but the worst thing for me was the editing. It's really easy to notice when a movie has bad editing, as the scenes here are placed with no flow, scenes abruptly cut, weird artistic choices - nothing works. Add to that a boring investigation and a twist pulled out of GVM's ass. Sure, its not predictable - but twists also need to be organic. It seemed as though they had this plot idea in mind and had to develop a story around it. They showed my college and that's about the only merit I can give this movie. Can't even enjoy it for being bad. This is just boring shit. Not even fun.
