First Blood

This is another movie I've always had a special fondness for, so it was nice to rewatch it with a friend who's never seen it, and she agrees that it is a much better movie than the reputation of the Rambo series would suggest. Definitely has more reactionary elements that I was able to pick up on at 18 (that "but somebody wouldn't let us win" line is very pointed), but I do think there's a very reasonable anti-war reading…

Movies used to have Dabney Coleman in them, he's so good in this.

Love this! Love it more every time I watch it! I'm not entirely why I'm so attached to this film, but it always makes me happy :)
One of the earliest films I can think of that feels like it's trying to be Spielbergy, this has some real ET energy, and I think it mostly nails that vib3, it never loses it's sense of fun. I always…

I ire its commitment to itself, this commits 100% to its whole thing. Lovingly dopey. Amazing production design & costuming. This feels like was cut down from a longer, more coherent version, this was hard to follow. I feel like I'd appreciate this more on rewatch.
EDIT: I'm very curious to watch the European & Director's cuts someday, they seem so different!

This Is Not a Computer: The Making of Computer Hearts

I'm glad this exists, because the making of Computer Hearts sounds like one hell of a mess. Kind of poorly put together as a doc, but interesting all the same. I was surprised to hear that Louise wanted the start of the film to feel like a student film, so that when the effects kick in it's a shock, which was nice to hear because that worked 100% on me the first time viewing  Computer Hearts. I appreciate that Louise…

Any time this is focusing on the hard sci-fi vibes it's an absolute dream, nothing looks or sounds like this, but when it gets bogged down in chauvinistic character dynamics that really remind you this was made in mid-50's America, it drags the film down severely. It's so evident that this was an influence on Star Trek, I think it's nice that Leslie Nielsen was the inspiration of sorts for Captain Kirk. I could listen to the electronic tonalities for hours, i love gibberish noise music <3

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

Fun! I just rewatched Space Seed, so what better time to watch it's followup than now. I appreciate how this kinda feels like a high budget TV episode; in anything other than Star Trek that would be a complaint, but the cheapness relative to The Motion Picture is charming, and fits the TV show. Ricardo Montalban is such a good villain, not enough scenery chewing in movies these days. I'm glad William Shatner was talked into letting Kirk age, it…

At what point can we claim the AVGN as tgirl culture

I'm really glad I've watched this, especially after spending the last couple of months fixated on it  to varying degrees. Really good, the best thing you can say about a 4.5 hour long film is that every scene felt neccessary, and while I watched this in 1.5 hour chunks, each chunk felt shorter than that.
Really good acting throughout, it's always special to see acting by mostly non-actors who…

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind

★★★½ Liked Rewatched

I watched a reconstruction of the altered English release Warriors Of The Wind. You see a lot of posts online about how this butchers Nausicäa, and while this version does make some unfortunate cuts and changes (all of the flashbacks to young Nausicäa were the most notable omissions, and renaming Nausicäa to Zandra is strange), it's honestly not that bad? It's mostly respectful to the original, it keeps the environmental themes intact, even if they're pared down, the voice acting…

Very cute! I love how rough the animation is at this stage of Aardman's existence, it's very charming! I was very excited when the spooky basement from Wererabbit showed up, I really need to rewatch that.

My brain often does this funny thing where it will get fixated on a film/filmmaker, and I'll end up looking them up, and learning all I can about them; this often happen before I have even watched the films in question. Most recently this has happened with Louise Weard; Castration Movie, and by extension her entire filmography, have been a real interest of mine as of late, but I haven't actually watched any of her films yet, I didn't even…

Every bit as good as I'd heard it was, I'm so glad I've finally gotten around to this! That penguin really is one of the best character designs in history, and the way he moves adds so much to his menace, I love his gait. Excellent soundtrack!
