Definitely thrilling and frustrating. However,I think the movie lacked pay-offs of any kind.

I do not understand why we met each and every character through interviews and learned about their personalities if the movie was not going to utilize such character introduction.
We were also given the information that there was one more person in the building we never saw, the sick grandfather, that information was also never used to surprise the audience later or build up tension.

Overall, I think this was an okay watch with a lot of missed opportunities and unfulfilled potential.

Scarier than any monster or creature is being forgotten without even people knowing who you really are, your desires and ions and your soul.

Only criticism I had is Alice's relationship with the neighbor. I am not sure what we, as the viewer, learned about the character from that piece of the story. I feel like more time could have been devoted to the generational aspect of Alice's issues with her mother and her desire to connect as who she is.

The neighbor part felt a bit unnatural and I sensed it was there for shock value for some reason? I wish we could have experience the true horror of this movie through the eyes of Alice a little bit more.

Coded messages, someone with an unexplainable gift, series of unexplainable murders... this movie is just every horror trope but not even being used in a creative or an interesting way, they're just horror tropes that have been overused if anything.

The story COULD BE interesting but the payoff that we got at the end of the movie is too anticlimactic for a set-up that is like 45 minutes long. Seriously, we have watched an hour of nothing and what we got was a plot twist that wasn't even a twist because there were like 3 characters in the movie to begin with.

Hats off to the PR team, the way this production was hyped, I was prepared not being able to sleep for like a week, I'd say this is more of a crime/thrillerish (????) in of genre than a horror film.

I wish the cinematography was used more expressively in the daydreaming scenes. That way we would have seen her paradigm and mental shifts more dramatically. Secondly, I feel like the character could have gotten more unhinged as the time progresses and she is battling with both her illness and trying to cover up her lie. Because the movie is not about a woman making herself ill on purpose, it is about a woman being an absolute fucking narcissist, thus, us learning about her state of mind is more important to the narrative than what actually happens event wise. To put it simple and short, I wish the film became absolute fucking crazy when we reached the climax.
But a natural and interesting watch nonetheless.

I felt like the movie could not decide whether it was a personal story about a depressive mentally ill man or about a political revolution. The movie tries to be both and fails miserably.

It is never clearly stated what exactly people of gotham are rebelling against and why Happy becomes the symbol of it. People are carrying signs that read "resist", but like, to what???? Words like system and society are just thrown left and right but their implications are never discovered.

In addition, like I said, most of the things that drove this man crazy aren't necesarrily societal institutions, like okay the fact that the funds of social help were cut off resulted in this man not being able to get the help that he needed, but everything else, every single problem that he had was personal. His mom's illness, very personal, his imaginary girlfriend, very personal. Yes people treated him like shit but the fact that bad people exist does not inevitably imply that the "system" -whatever that implies- is corrupt. So apart from "social help" situation, he is not someone to be the symbol of such revolution.

Probably would have been unwatchable if it weren't for joaquin phoenix's amazing acting performance.

This movie is every "teen with creepy superpowers but can't control them" movie, only much more predictable and anticlimactic.

First "abnormality" is birds flying right at the windows? Check.
Nose bleeds after using too much power? Check.
Power inherited from a family member but the protagonist learns about it halfway through the movie? Check.
Doctors just can't seem to figure out what is wrong with her? Check.

Plus, what the fuck was the ending? She just learns to control her powers casually without a seizure and starts performing miracles like a fucking prophet? How, when, why????
If I saw this movie first, there was no way I would see The Worst Person in The World.

This movie is all about a woman trying to define herself on her own , trying to cling to her personality and will (which manifests itself as the piano in this movie), while the men toss her around as a mere object of desire. That's why I think Ada should've died at the end of the movie along with her piano. This is that movie, she is that character.

By not killing her, writers threw away everything this movie is about, the desire to be herself in a setting where a woman simply is not allowed to. Suicide was going to be the only choice that she made entirely on her own, without any threat, bribe or pressure, but the writers took that away from her. It is evident in the last 2 minutes that the undertone of the movie changes radically; it stops being a struggle for identity and transforms into a mere happily ever after. If this was not the case, it would've been an easy 4 star for me, still good tho.

I feel like the reason this movie isn't scary is that they tried so fucking hard to make it scary. I mean what was that demonic ( maybe alienish? in this case) voices. They could have easily found something better and creepier than those nonsense whispering to make him drawn to that spaceship or whatever. I don't even get why it was so curical for him to find that spaceship anyway he had powers before finding it too.

I gotta give them credit for those murder scenes tho the gore in that scenes was delicious. (except for the one where he killed his dad lmao what was that scene). I am actually suprised this movie was that good at making the blood and gore look believeable, because literally any effect other than that looked so laughable. I think we could all agree that any flying object or person looked so funny because it was so obviously fake I don't know why they insisted on making objects fly it really took down the quality of the film.

Speaking of laughable, WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT NIGHTMARE SCENE?? OK, I know not everyone loves when movies use nightmares or dreams to scare the audience, because it decreases credibility of the narrator, even though I don't agree with that all the times I understand where they're coming from. BUT this movie couldn't even do that. I mean, it was a nightmare, meaning that they could fuck what reality, they could show us or scare us with any image that they want to because we weren't gonna be able to question it. It technically isn't a part of the storyline, so it doesn't have to make sense. Still they managed to create an indecribably funny scene. I mean was that supposed to be scary?? I genuinely don't know.

One more thing, I don't think I'll ever be able to get over the fact that the dad tried to take him out with a gun even though he said with his own mouth that Brendon did not even get a single bruise since he was little soooo I'm not even gonna get into the parts that didn't make sense just know that there were a lot.

I was gonna give it 1 star but then I movies like kissing booth or sierra Burgess is a loser exist so I'm saving my one star rating for such movies.
Also acting was good except for the kid.

The first thing I loved about this film was its shots, most of the shots looked like the people in the frame were being wathced by someone, so even in the scenes where nothing really happens, it manages the keep the unnerving atmosphere and it never lets you forget that these people are not alone in that house, which was a big highlight for me and I wanted to mention how much I loved it.

Secondly, I couldn't tell if the house was being terrorized by a human being or a supernatural force at the first part of the movie, but I didn't find it confusing; the opposite, it doubled my enjoyment and excitement because I didn't know what to expect and was curious. It would be a HUGE disappointment if it was a ghost or smh to be honest because a lot of stuff that was happening at the begging were cliche as fuck. I mean, TV switches on for no reason? Check. Photos start to disappear? check. Unknown forces lock a family member into a closet? Check. Okay so what I'm saying is if it had been a paranormal force, we would have had a different conversation.
The scene where the repairman tells the wife about her "daughter" opening the door for him, I was pissed of. Because my dumbass was sitting there expecting this to be one of those "creepy little girl possesses the house" type of movie BUT boy was I wrong. I was SHOCKED to find out there is not one; but two people living secretly in the house, which brings us to the second half of the movie.
I loved Owen Teague's performance in this movie, I think he portrayed his character's anxiety and him slowly losing his sanity beautifully. Honestly just the thought of someone else living in your house without your notice is the scariest thing for me and to see that from the "invaders" point of view was also interesting.

The first plot twist (I mean the fact that mom's lover wasn't killed by Alec but by Greg) was shocking for me, so was the second one. But the moment we learned that Greg was the person who killed those little boys, I knew that Alec was one of the victims that managed to run away and now he wants vengeance. From the first time they showed that footage of Tommy and his friend from the railways, I was asking myself 'what about the other boy', so as soon as Greg's true identitiy was revealed the puzzle was complete for me, which means the last scenes of the movie didn't hit me as hard as it was supposed to but still I'm not gonna give the movie 1 star because of 10 minutes or something.
Overall it's not everyone's cup of tea but this I think this movie is objectively good if not a little bit better than that.

The execution of special effects is very important for a movie like this, because it highly relies on gore and torture elements. So, to see them executed well was what made the story believeable and thrilling rather than funny for me. Even though I usually don't like horror movies which turn into action movies because of all the chase scenes towards the end, I think this movie managed to keep its thrilling factor as the core element.
Even though there were some gorish death scenes, it didn't feel as if I'm watching saw or final destination.
It was both exciting and an Okay thriller I think. It's worth giving a watch
**** Rest of may contain spoilers so read at your own risk***

My only issue with the movie is that, I think having the characters take off their masks was a bad decision. Because, masks was the main element of their fearsomeness, masks made them creepier and more mysterious. When they had their masks on, it was hard for audience to determine their expressions or emotions, you only knew which way they were looking at, which made them unpredictable and more thrilling. It could almost be said that masks made them the symbol of terror, rather than the actual terror. It is always hard to live up to the expectations of the audience with such reveals, because when the faces are covered, the human imagination creates the most horrific image they can think of, for the face under the mask, but when the unkown factor is lifted, things become less scary.
And I wish they had elaborated more on that "they told me I would earn a face when I kill someone" story that the non-scary guy was telling, it could have been interesting but maybe it would make the movie longer than it's supposed to be dude idk.

Also, I am prettyyyy sure what Harper did to that guy in the end was illegal.
