As with all of Cronenberg's film that I've seen, this one is creepy but not really scary. I loved the music, cinematography, and lighting. The story has many fascinating ideas, but ultimately I found the plot to be somewhat confusing. The screenplay at times violates the guideline to "Show, don't tell." I usually prefer underacting (e.g. Keanu Reeves) to overacting (e.g. Cate Blanchett). Vince Cassell sure does a lot of underacting here.

Short biopic of obscure '70s funk singer Betty Davis. It has very cool and imaginative graphic images. I love her weird music and sleazy psychedelic looks, but would have preferred more information about what she's been up to since disappearing from the music industry decades ago. "Funky like a donkey" indeed!

Besides Vertigo, this is other cinematic pairing of Kim Novak and Jimmy Stewart - watching the two movies back to back would make for an interesting comparison. A romantic comedy with beautiful mid-century modern sets and clothes, the movie features a very good acting performance by a cat, Jack Lemmon as a beatnik warlock who plays bongos in a basement jazz club, and the Bride of Frankenstein as a nutty aunt.

Part queer love story and part something else - Sci-fi? Ghost story? Psychological study? I'm not exactly sure what it is. What type of movie it is depends on how you interpret it, but I don't want to say too much and give anything away. I'll say this: Paul Mescal is very beautiful, as is the cinematography, and two scenes are very hot, if you enjoy watching man-on-man action.
