Norm!! I chose this for another viewing after George Wendt’s ing yesterday. Cheers was one of my favorite TV sitcoms of all time and Norm was among my favorite characters.

This is easily rewatchable and while it may not be one of the most talked about movies, it stands among my favorite 80s comedies. I even love the 80s techno soundtrack. Chevy Chase holds his own as solo lead in this fast paced and witty farce. Although the story kinda meanders and Chase’s costumes veer into the territory of ridiculous, it’s all in the name of mindless entertainment and chuckles.

The producers knew that the franchise needed a real shake up after the disastrous previous picture. For the reboot, they picked Martin Campbell to direct, which was a wise selection after he successfully brought new life with GoldenEye after the franchise’s hiatus in the early 90s. In a more controversial choice, Daniel Craig was tapped to become the new 007. But it proved to be the correct decision, as he quickly gave a rousing performance which felt like the franchise…

Any lingering doubts over the selection of Craig as 007 are wiped clean with this movie. The film proves to the viewers that Casino Royale wasn’t a fluke and that Craig is a bona fide Hollywood heavyweight, worthy of multiple leading roles in blockbuster pictures. Roger Deakins again demonstrates why he is one of the best cinematographers in the industry, as the visuals are the best in the series.
