I am sad that my Denis watch has come to an end, but what better way to conclude a journey than to watch his magnum opus, that is Dune: Part 2. It takes true grit and dedication to come up with something this extreme and yet so deliberate, and I applaud Denis Villeneuve on that. This is what it means to enjoy cinema and be immersed in a world that is unlike your own, and to revel in the worldbuilding, the character arcs, and the treasure trove that is unlike anything you have seen before.
Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of the second half of Dune is a brilliant feat of filmmaking and incorporates all that has come before in his films. The dangerous crossover to the line of destruction that was seen in Sicario, the grounded realism of Incendies, the surrealism of Maelstrom and the existentialism that was in Blade Runner 2049, all of that culminating into a melting pot of a behemoth in cinematic storytelling.
As this watch Denis comes to an end, I can never get over how much of an incredible filmmaker Villeneuve has cemented himself as. His ideas are bursting and bright, the vision is precise and clear and his direction is worthy of praise for what it has accomplished. He understands the cinephile in me, and for that, I can attest that with Dune Part Two, he has made me a lifelong fan of his work. You can catch me in the theatre when Messiah is released.
