Looked beautiful and gives you all the feels 🥹
]]>Watched this again in a different format (non IMAX). Was able to really sit and digest the symbolism more. The music, the spiritualism, the profound sadness mixed with humor. It captures so much so succinctly and the horror and fantasy genre on top of it feels like a cherry on top for the metaphors. Just incredibly moved by this film and the story. When Remmick said “I want you and I want your songs (music?)” (this is a guestimation at the quote) it hit so hard. I kept “mmming” the whole movie as if I was in church. Love love.
]]>Saw this in IMAX like Ryan Coogler wanted. This was an epic, beautiful, fantastic film and I’m gonna need everyone to this feeling come Oscar season. Michael B. Jordan acted his ass off. So did Miles Canton. Everyone did. Acting, writing, and directing all tops. This film manages to be epic in proportion yet there’s such a moving and grounded story at the root of it. And I screamed quite a few times. There’s more to unpack here but I’ll have to come back and do that later. Just WOW.
]]>This actually made me tear up at the end, I wasn’t ready. Incredibly moving.

]]>Got to watch the premiere of the 4k restoration of this at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica with a Q+A with Maya Cade and Charles Burnett. What a freaking niiiiiight. Got to meet both of them. Really thankful.
]]>Oooo this was good, I was not ready. The TWISTS this had.

Really loved the end where he wrote the book titled “Dream Scenario” and they translated it to “I am your Nightmare.” What a poignant sentiment. Super trippy and such an original idea. I enjoyed it, it freaked me out, it was frustrating, it was great. Still scarred from “did you just cum?” Followed by a fart.
]]>Incredible. I have no words!
]]>Knowing that these on screen couples were secretly couples behind the scenes, makes this movie that much more romantic and juicy. Was really surprised at Diahann Carroll’s and Sidney Poitier’s characters and their commentary/debates on being Black in Paris vs the states. It was quite interesting and layered. They were the hotter couple imo and I wish we had more steamy moments with them, but we got some good ol’ Hollywood romantic kisses from them in the end. I didn’t realize this was a novel and now I’m curious about the novel too.

Got to see this in theaters today. Just so fantastic. The loneliness. The yearning! Maggie Cheung’s lewks. The power of this love story without sharing a single kiss. All so beautiful.
]]>This was super interesting as James Baldwin and the filmmakers had many disagreements about the film, but I’m thankful for all the gems James Baldwin dropped even through the quarrels.
]]>Was very late in watching this film ppl have always told me to watch. Felt like I needed this ~historical drama~ for more context on the Zuck of today. Good shizz. Rashida Jones’ character line at the end is wrong tho. He is indeed an asshole.

I actually wasn’t ready to be this grossed out! Disturbing and poppy. Really plays with your senses. Demi Moore did great. I felt so sad when she was terminating Sue and then begged her to come back because she hates herself. That fight scene was so sad and also so gory. Wasn’t ready for Sue’s kick to send Elizabeth flying.

This was real AF. A very relatable and “it could happen to anyone” kind of story. That internship scene really PMO. So sad Emily couldn’t run away with Youcef 💔. Aubrey Plaza is perfect.
]]>This was such a wild ride. I literally was not ready. Cant wait to talk about it with my clinical psychologist mother.
]]>I don’t really have all the words to articulate right now, but I’m obsessed with this.

I really liked the themes in this and analyzing what it means to “grow up” or be a man. Was really struck by Jody’s visions and fear of death and then later Yvette’s vision of two futures—one of tragedy and death and one of marriage and new life. I did not think we would get the ending with marriage and new life and was pleasantly surprised at the end. Also loved the complexity of the relationship with his mother. The Oedipus complex comparison. I enjoyed their scenes in the garden. There’s lots of layers here to these characters and their relationships with each other. You love them and sometimes hate them just like Jody and Yvette do each other. Feel like I’ll be thinking about this for awhile. John Singleton really was an incredible writer and director that brought empathy to characters that seem harsh but are rather nuanced and complex. Haven’t watched all his films yet, but I’m a fan!

]]>This was the first August Wilson play I read and it blew my mind. I love the story. I thought this was a great adaptation for the screen. Sometimes plays don’t always translate well to film, but I thought this one certainly did. You feel the play embedded in there, but it enhances the story visually. Great performances by everyone.
