I LOVE YOU MERYL STREEP
many on here are criticising the film for centring its male protagonist where sophie’s story really is the heart of the film and i see that reading! and i did worry at times that the film would overindulge its protagonist’s saviour complex. but honestly? i think using a naïve young man with a crush as the eyes through which to deliver a contemplation on trauma, shame and guilt and the ways that these things can alter and inhibit a person’s ability to live for themselves, let others in and allow themselves to be loved healthily works stunningly - meryl streep’s performance is astonishing and enthused with the complexity her character so deserves and the film’s handling of her ultimately feels impressively honest and mature.
also my adhd riddled ass was invested and engaged for 150 minutes AND more soo it’s gotta be good sorry
