Wanted to like it more, but apart from a particular scene in the very middle section of the movie it's kind of a mixed bag. Not a single character in this movie ever grows in a meaningful way, and every subject matter this movie tries to deal with gets nothing more than a scratch on the surface.
Technically impressive but narratively feeble, some parts are well crafted - others are pompous, self-important and relentless.
A certain character's action in the last hour happens completely out of the blue up to the point that it seems like it was included merely for shock value. I wouldn't have cared so much unless it ended up serving an important plot point later on.
I loved more aspects than hated, hence the score, but it's hardly a celebrated masterpiece, only a decent flick.
