I should have recognised the Rowan Tree the first time round

Mostly enjoyable but never manages to reach the high expectations I had going in.
The leads are strong — Ruffalo is convincing as a soft-spoken yet determined cop who becomes increasingly exasperated by a series of setbacks. He works well alongside Gyllenhaal too, who stood out as the heart of the film for me, even if his Graysmith’s awkward earnestness becomes (ironically) cartoonish at times.
