Nolan has reviewed 40 films tagged ‘blu-ray’ during 2023.

End time: 2:30
The movie:
It’s Wim Wenders, it was slow, it was artsy, they talked about lots of nothing and it looked absolutely gorgeous. I think I preferred the road trip half of the movie at the beginning more just for vibes alone even though the story developed in a much more interesting in the second half. I have no real complaints here, always enjoy an afternoon with Wenders.
State of mind:
Currently figuring out what to have for…
Completely forgot to log my start time for this one, but it ended at 10:38
The movie:
Completely blew me away, I expected a silly highschool sex comedy because I only knew about the dancing scene at the beginning and wow was I wrong. This was funny, tense and just all around an incredible watch. The score was great at building the tension and creating a killer mood. This is nearing 5 star territory just completely caught me off guard,…
In the making of extra feature on the VS Blu Ray Mikel’s said the movie when through significant rewrites once he read the top magazines in a gas station and saw what men really want. That’s all you need to know about this movie.
It’s also really interesting to hear how he just wanted to make a martial arts action movie and the studio requested the sex/nudity, and after some negotiation they settled for just nudity but no sex. Interesting…
A trip down memory lane, with a few potholes
Absolute 5 star animation here, as I would expect from Satoshi Kon. His movies always reach that “every frame a painting” level of animation.
The references to all different types of cinema also really scratched an itch here, and I had a ton of fun with that. The story and pacing did not work for me near as well as Perfect Blue, but that’s an incredibly high bar to hit. There’s…
I’m going to quote Kev because he said it better in his review than anyone else.
“ The fact that people shit on these movies for whatever reason (usually, it’s a 10 second clip in a tweet) but weep like children when Glup Shitto shows up in some bland, crappy Star Wars TV show really says it all. “
This is fine, it’s even fine if you don’t like it because its a pretty basic murder mystery and it’s certainly…
Starting off Hooptober right, with a movie so batshit it was bordering on incomprehensible. Also I am cheating by starting Hooptober early but I know this is gonna be a busy two months for me and I want a fighting chance to slay this beast.
This was wild, Ken Russell did not disappoint, and this isn’t my only chance I’ll get to spend with him this journey. I loved William Hurt in this but the best performance was probably Blair…

WOW this is a debut picture and that’s absolutely freakin ridiculous. This is a writing and directing team that knew what they wanted right out the gate, with shades of Fargo and No Country throughout. I’d even dare to say it holds its own against those greats, this was really special.
The first act didn’t have me totally gripped but once it got going it got GOING. What a wild story. Also the cinematography was some of the best looking stuff I’ve seen in quite a while, those stalking shots, the final shootout, my goodness gracious!
An American independent for the Criterion Challenge 2023
Please read my first review it’s much better, I do think my opinions were a bit inflated by THC that time but this movie is a goddamn vibe and I love it so much.
Watching with other people shows me when a movie is a bit slower and this is a slow burn more than I realized at first but I love me a good ole slow burn.
olini is a gay Catholic Marxist, all 3 traits I feel are incredibly important when interpreting his highly rebellious work.
I have read the Decameron in the past and this was a very intriguing take on those stories, I cannot say I enjoyed the entire thing beyond an intellectual level though. Some of the more crude aspects of the story did not always work for me, but I think there’s a lot here to analyze.
There is a great deal…

Profoundly moved by this to the extent that I just had to sit and marinate in it afterwards, writing a review too soon seems like a disservice to the movie but I also want to provide my organic first thoughts before my eventual rewatches come down the line. This was as immersive as any experience the new apple vision quest or whatever it’s called could ever give you. Every story took you on a journey, every argument was engaging, and…
