This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I say this not to make a joke out of a very somber and horrifying experience, but just to share once again the absurdity of seeing arthouse matinee showings with the elderly.
At one point during the film the sweet old lady sitting behind me felt the need to loudly exclaim “oh he’s washing the jew off his penis”. And I just want to thank her for helping me follow the movie.
I’m literally engaged and somehow the characters I relate to most are still sad writers that get no action.
I feel like some of the more literary aspects of this one lost some meaning in the translation, specifically when it came comes to his writings it’s hard for me to tell when it’s good or bad but overall I really enjoyed this a lot. A lot to unpack here but I don’t really feel like doing all that right now, ending was very good stuff.
The ending of this movie absolutely clobbered me, like it picked me up spit on me and threw me back onto the ground shaking and whimpering in the cold. Throwing polite society out the window and cursing ungodly things at the 3 talking old ladies who walked into our movie and ruined the last 30 minutes of it.
Still liked the movie a lot but can’t wait to rewatch all the Christopher Abbott stuff. Also since Disney owns this I expect a Disney+ spin off series about the pet experiments.
