Had a lot of fun with this, my only problem was the two leads. Every ing member of the cast ABSOLUTELY killed it, including The Sewer Boys.

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I say this not to make a joke out of a very somber and horrifying experience, but just to share once again the absurdity of seeing arthouse matinee showings with the elderly.
At one point during the film the sweet old lady sitting behind me felt the need to loudly exclaim “oh he’s washing the jew off his penis”. And I just want to thank her for helping me follow the movie.
This reminded me a lot of Ferrari in the way that they are both biopics with borderline absurd performances, impressive cinematography, and interesting ideas. But unfortunately for both of them I’m not interested enough in the story and main figure to be fully invested.
This movie is not worth the love the Oscars gave it, but it’s also not worth the hate I’ve seen from many film fans.

A lot to unpack here but I don’t really feel like doing all that right now, ending was very good stuff.
The ending of this movie absolutely clobbered me, like it picked me up spit on me and threw me back onto the ground shaking and whimpering in the cold. Paul you did great as always sweetheart, but this was Andrew Scott’s film. This movie takes a story that was not inherently queer and adds…
Pretty certain this will become my favorite Miyazaki on rewatch, it was just a little too dense to fully wrap my arms around this time around. An absurdly poignant and powerful work of art from an aging legend. This absolutely should win best animated film ( I love you more Spiderverse but this just feels right to honor the art form that Miyazaki changed). It should also be seriously talked about for score, but I know it probably won’t.
