Directed by Len Wiseman my ass (bro is cooked for blowing such a promising gig, putting his ass in that gun assembly execution room), modern day action auteur and gigachad Chad Stahelski is all over this, including a shocking small walk on role by one of his old stunt buddies who was already in a previous film (I thought the character was a twin or something). The flamethrower sequence is even more epic than what you see in the trailers, truly kino action and a very good intersequel, hope we get a sequel to this! Also love that this is basically Resident Evil 4 if you really think about it, remote eastern european village filled with cultists and all. Ana de Armas has the juice for action, no wonder the CEO of Hollywood, the Cruise, is parading her around the world
]]>"I am the shithead unforgiven"
Musical perfection, never before in person have I felt the synergy of band like this one, a sound that one could only hope to feel in the beyond, and the cruel dictorial leadership of it's genius leader as I did last year going to see my favorite band. Fucking phenomenal.

]]>Should've called this The Very Sad Elephant In the Room with all the dubbed dialogue taking up pretty much almost all of Willis's dialogue in this and he looks lost in retrospect despite the best efforts of the current DTV Action King, Jesse V. Johnson, to hide it. There's a lot of excellent squib work and gore effects but just as many flaws in the action as most of it is our two leads either sticking to one place or hiding out somewhere, not exactly my cup of tea when it comes to non-moving un-thrilling action despite Rooker and Kurylenko putting in fine work.
Also what the fuck was up with John Malkovich's performance here, I know he's just doing it for the check but the man sounded like he was trying to play the goddamn G-Man in Half-Life with how stiff and monotone he is in this!

]]>A very badass and tragic character study of a man who tries to defy his destiny and ends up make himself into a tragic legend instead while also becoming an ultra badass dog man hybrid killing machine. Really loved how this embraced the surreal aspect of Ichikawa's character really having some fantastical abilities due to his parentage (bestiality go burrrrrraaaa).
]]>Lots of homoerotic undertones which is a given considering it's based off a Yukio Mishima short story. Raizō Ichikawa gives a haunting performance.
]]>Has some badass moments such as a nighttime sword fight with multiple assassins done in one shot and a duel that ends with a guy getting split down the middle by Raizō Ichikawa but it's too much of a downer for me to really wanna revisit or call a bonafide heater, still pretty good.

]]>Some questions from the Criterion Subreddit that I'll answer here as well:
* Where are you from?
Arlington, Virginia
* How old are you?
26
* When did you start collecting Criterion?
2012
* Do you collect Blu-ray or DVD?
Both
* What is your favorite Criterion release?
Repo Man
* What is your least favorite Criterion release?
Armageddon, still a surprisingly fun yet incredibly stupid film to watch.
* Who is your favorite director in the collection?
Samuel Fuller
* Who is your favorite director outside of the collection?
Takeshi Kitano
* Which Criterion do you most want that is not in your possession?
Here’s my top five: the Zatoichi box set, Le cercle rouge, Dreams, Fishing with John, and Berlin Alexanderplatz.
* Which film would you most like to see get the Criterion treatment?
So many but I'd love to see Under the Flag of the Rising Sun get a release but that will probably get more of the Arrow Video treatment then this but it’s truly one of the best and also one of the most grim anti-war films I’ve ever seen, either that or finally a region 1 release of Nicholas Winding Refn's Bleeder
* How do you organize your collection?
No real order anymore :)

]]>"So dark! Are you sure you're not from the DC universe!?"
-Wade Wilson a.k.a. Deadpool
Like a cowboy boot!
Actually looks like a comic book movie for once and not some washed out colorless edgy action flick that goes for broke while somehow fitting in a tribute to H.P. Lovecraft with that gloriously traumatizing not safe for kids Trench sequence, that's how I fucking like my Superhero flicks.
Finally some good fucking food!
Actually gives us a hero to root for who represents something positive for a change like actually saving lives and not some nihilistic burn out loser who's a misguided tribute to Frank Miller's work. Also nice to see WW1 used as the backdrop, don't see that too often since it's the one with the most senseless outcome.
Even Nolan knew this was too dark for Superman that he had to talk down Synder on toning down the circumstances of Zod's snapped neck from straight up cold blooded murder. Still Shannon is the bomb!
