Dune 2' is an epic masterpiece. Denis Villeneuve made one of the best sequels ever and one of the best movies in the sci-fi genre. Villeneuve is at the top of his craft here. He is able to take moments like Paul's first worm ride and shoot them unglamorously. A strong film with strong characters definitely needs powerful performances and this one had some of the best. Timothée Chalamet was exceptional as Paul Atreides, a commanding portrayal, he owned every second of his screen time, his presence in the final act was magnetic. Zendaya was terrific, a character who sees everything through clearly and who understands the danger of the Freman’s beliefs, she was extraordinary. Austin Butler was menacing here, the character’s psychotic nature was perfectly embodied by Austin, he was scarier than Baron. Javier Bardem and Rebecca Ferguson were amazing as usual. The rest of the cast was great as well. The screenplay was masterful, the runtime flies by and the third act was crafted and executed brilliantly. Denis’s astounding direction and Greig Fraser’s eyegasmic visuals was a treat to the eyes. This film does not only rely on visuals, but also explores complex themes such as politics, religion and morality intelligently. Overall, Dune: Part Two is an ideal blend of visual beauty, outstanding acting performances, and an in-depth epic story, exceeding fans' expectations from previous versions.
