One of his best and definitely worth showing someone early on to get them hooked.

Where to start with Edward Yang
My personal favourite. This one's a long and detailed portrait of a Taiwan that's long since gone. I put this here because it gives some historical context for later films like Taipei Story. The runtime is daunting but given the right mood, it's so easy to get lost in this world.
