There is a sacred nature to the past. Particularly the past we inherit from our ancestors. Whether it haunts you or inspires you, it always precedes you. We are forever connected to it. The link to a memory or tradition ed down through generations—the tie to actions and circumstances entirely outside of our control—is oppressive enough. That inescapable feeling always looms. We’re not here because we’re free, we’re here because we’re not free.

One of the best movies ever made. A harmony of masterful filmmaking. An incomprehensible technical achievement. Massively influential. Just brilliant.

Seen at the Redford Theater in 70mm.

Warfare

★★★ Liked Watched

While Warfare viscerally captures the dread and despair of its title, to an extent that’s undeniably gripping, it fails to challenge the absolute senselessness of the very real situation these people were in. Maybe that’s intentional. Maybe detachment is the statement. I respect the effort to honor these men, but it’s nonetheless unable, senseless, deranged, destructive, purposeless, void, and confused WARFARE.

★★★★ Liked Watched

Look, here’s the deal, if you truly love her you’ll haunt her dreams, ruin her life, suck her blood, and kill her.

For the fourth consecutive time, director/dp duo Robert Eggers and Jarin Blaschke deliver a supremely faithful adaptation of important folklore. Nosferatu is a praiseworthy addition to the Dracula canon.

Black Bag

2025

★★★½ Liked Watched

That's so hot.

Lean, engaging, and stylish, it really feels as though Soderbergh is on top of his game with Black Bag, an espionage thriller doubling as couples therapy.

The ing cast is impressive, bringing their own experience and intrigue, but it's ultimately Fassbender and Blanchett who deliver the goods as consummate (literally) professionals.

Also, nice work from wardrobe/costume department. The fits are as sharp as the movie.
