SILENCE. had me SHOOK to the core
this is THE PINNACLE of the science fiction genre. i will CONTINUE to glaze this movie for YEARS to come. every single thing about this just left me feeling in awe and it is just so memorable. i’m not keen on favoring the sequels and im very strong on preferring the original but my opinions forever changed. the movie is longer than the first but so much more captivating.
it’s almost a priority to watch this in theatres because this is more than just a movie. it’s literally an experience and you have to be able to experience it to the fullest.
another priority is to WATCH DUNE ONE AND ENJOY IT. so many people think it’s a snooze fest but it’s clearly the best cinematic set up for the sequel. they cross reference so much of the dialogue from the first film and make it makes Part Two so much more hard of a film. absolutely LOVED the dialogue and script.
i just have to dedicate a small writing segment to the BEST BATTLE SCENES EVER. down to the CHOREOGRAPHY of the scenes it’s simply an art, a masterpiece of a film. i was getting MASSIVE loads of dopamine while watching this movie - the battle scenes were so satisfying and i just loved watching them play out, Star Wars has NOTHIIIIING on this. i particularly was SO HYPED to see the sandworms FINALLY being used in battle, it was the coolest thing i’ve ever seen and im pretty sure everyone else in the theatre agreed.
i never ever would have thought that my mouth would drop during a movie more than once. but there i was - jaw dropped over half the time, down the sheer TALENT of the shots presented
the CAST IS LEGENDARY. i see such a large range of actors. i see ones that already have been around for years and continue to deliver an amazing performance. and i see the younger actors - those who will remain in the cinema scene forever, remaining iconic throughout age.
the shots are so impressive and they remain vivid in my mind - this will be a film in which future filmmakers will use as a template; something to base their shots off of. the eagle eye shots and the extreme high shots are so impactful and capture and can say so much about the specific scene it leaves me astounded.
the COLOR GRADING. the grading is SO GOOD and so many scenes are not only reflecting the overlooking tone but also leave a lasting impression on the movie overall. the scene at the House of Harkkonens planet is just so horrifying and really lets the audience know the graveness of the inhabitants. the scenes on Dune are often bright orange and yellow which really contributes to the environments aspect and also the atmosphere of the valuable spice - the root of all the war, evil, and even culture
the pacing in incredible - denis villeneuve devours at this aspect. he knows how to draw us in and really get the audience hooked and hungry for more of these iconically legendary battle scenes, and then eases in character development in between so the audience really finds itself paying attention; for their own personal satisfaction. i was also very pleased with how villeneuve slowly introduces these characters into the film - we slowly start to see each one unravel and what their purpose and contribution to the storyline is - and he leaves each scene with these characters instilling a feeling into the audience of wanting to see and learn more about them.
the characters are just so incredible and the antagonists are even more so. i’ve never actually been more intrigued yet disturbed by a villain. the whole Harkkonen house is menacing and i’ve never been more in love with it. the first movie already invoked that tone of viciousness and cruelty by Austin Butler DELIVERS with his character Feyd Rautha. i seriously stand by the statement that his performance is the new best villain performance since Heath Ledgers Joker performance, just way too memorable and WAY TOO REAL. i was genuinely disappointed that he ended up dying.
and the SYMBOLS and MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF INTERPRETATION that come from this film. i can go on a whole YAP solely about the DEPICTIONS that villeneuve displays. very clearly we see biblical themes and the rise of a messiah, the story that is very present in Christianity but even more closely related to Islam. i see depictions of past and current conflicts, persecution against Jews and a far-fetched but not out of reach palestinian conflict. i see many parts in this film that show that religion can be manipulated and twisted to fit a particular narrative or action, it can be the excuse for conflict.
as hard and cool of a character Paul is he still shouldn’t be idolized. he is a warning about the dangers of idolization - the wrongdoings of messiahs , and he is a parody the idolization he faces. he is willing to sacrifice anyone in order to achieve his goal. the OG Darth Vader
THIS MOVIE IS THE DEFINITION OF AWARD WINNING THANK YOU VILLENEUVE FOR ABSOLUTEY COOKING
