Miro Suuronen’s review published on Letterboxd:
Absolutely wonderful scifi epic, from Denis Villenuve.
Maybe even more grand, than first one.
Atleast I really loved this more.
While first one is more about political power and bloodlines in families, this is about fighting against greed, with faith.
Strong religious allegory.
Messiah like figure to save, from greed and exploitation.
Or rule everything, with power and fear?
Internal battles, but also tension between families rising to new heights.
Battles about heritage, property and ultimate power.
I really loved, how this film did go deeper in world building and cultures.
Way deeper in characters.
Way more action, than in first one.
Bigger stakes in everything.
But I feel like, this also was more artistic and brave in many ways.
Vision of Villenuve becomes even more clear.
Visually absolutely breathtaking.
Even more beautiful shots of desert and dunes.
Even more worms.
Beautiful battle scenes.
Sound design and score are absolutely wonderful.
How they even blend together.
This also brings even bigger ensemble of great actors together, than first one.
Of course Timothée Chalamlet and Rebecca Ferguson are really great.
I loved to see more of Zendaya, Javier Bardem and many others.
But so many great new names too.
Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Léa Seydoux and even Anya Taylor-Joy to just name few.
This film just feels more epic on many levels.
Really great experience in cinema.
I'm definitely even more excited now, if(hopefully when) Denis Villenuve decides to make more parts to this story.
