“Love you too.”

Ran it back in IMAX to catch the beginning and see the work in all its weight.

I appreciated this even more on a rewatch! It’s deeply entertaining, emotive, mournful, and, at times despairing - which, from what I understand, is like the blues.

Reflective rabbit-trail:

I’m struck by the way Sammie feels forced to choose between a life of faith and a life of fulfillment as a blues musician. This dichotomy seems to stem from the rigidity of…

“Merry m*f*ing Christmas.”

Stunning! In both its form and its content, Tangerine began by dismantling my preconceptions about what movies & people should be like. Then slowly but surely, it taught to me see beauty and care in places I wouldn’t have been willing to look, all while taking seriously the brokenness and pain at play in the lives it shows on screen.

I’m a fan.

You know what I’m also a fan of? Watching movies in the morning with my boy Poly. Pour over and pastries and cinemaaaaa 🔥🏄‍♂️☀️

“You can’t handle the truth!”

My family was 30 min into this when I arrived at our Air bnb. I quickly locked in and loved it.

A perfect follow up to listening to The Big Picture Tom Cruise Draft yesterday and preparation for M:I Final Reckoning tomorrow.

Kaffee asking Jessop if he’d ordered the Code Red felt like Maverick pushing the throttle or Ethan taking the jump.

“Are you or aren’t you?” / “That sum bitch is molting!”

Got to see this in a packed theater with two dear friends. Laughs and tears and a fist raised for Mordecai.

So much goodness to discover and rediscover here. It’s taken a handful of viewings for me to realize how many near-parallels there are between the Tenenbaums and my own family.

I wish Chris was here.

“Biodigital jazz, man!”

To me, this is one of the coolest movies I’ve ever seen. It was when I was 8, and I’m happy to report it holds up. What a blast!

Such a distinct aesthetic that holds up so well. I can’t help but think the practical suit lighting went a long way.

Daft punk showed up.

Also, this version included sequences in the IMAX ratio, which gave that much more juice.

“We cannot escape our fate, but we can rise to meet it.”

A profound portrayal of peacemaking and lovely night at the movies with friends.
