]]>Showdown: The NeverEnding Story
Best films with runtimes of over 150 minutes
I could have put the whole lotr trilogy on here but where’s the fun in that?
Specifically listing the theatrical version of girl with a dragon tattoo, not the two episode miniseries version (I’ve never seen it)
Showdown: Call Me by Your Name: Best movies where the title is the first name of one of the characters
Thought I wouldn’t even be able to scrounge up enough movies for a list but there sure are a lot of these, huh?
I have elected to go by the English release title of Amelie but the original release title of Nikita. This is because nothing really matters, inconsistency is imaginary, and both movies are good. I will hear no complaints on my decision making process.
]]>Panic Room: Best chamber piece films (with fewer than ten named characters)
Shout outs to The Thing, Die Hard, Ready or Not, The Shawshank Redemption, and Snowpiercer for being movies that almost certainly made the list if it weren't for them having too many characters. (though coincidentally those are also all movies where the one location is so large that it feels like multiple locations)
I gave a little bit of grace on the one location limit for the beginning and ending of the movie that are often entering/leaving the location, but also for leaving it entirely and coming back in some instances (clerks, night of the living dead). It's moreso the vibe of whether I the movie as being all in one place or not.
]]>Stay Tuned: Best films about TV.
]]>Fighting with my Family: Movies focusing on siblings
not exclusively about the fact that they’re siblings but all movies where it wouldn’t be the same if they weren’t
]]>Band of Misfits: family-friendly movies with less than 100,000 views on letterboxd.
It was really interesting thinking back to what movies I was really into as a kid. I would stay up late on the weekends just hoping and praying that Zenon Kar would come on.
Honorable mentions go to the first pokemon movie (too many views but my absolute fav movie was a kid), every single muppets movie (i didn’t want to put more than one of them on here), the second scary godmother movie (i always watched them together) as well as Homeward Bound, Pagemaster, and scooby doo cyber chase which i for sure watched on repeat as a kid but don’t well enough for this list.
]]>Showdown: Good Time
Best thrillers with a runtime shorter than 105 minutes
Rank based both on how much i like the movie and how well i think it works as a “thriller”
Crimes of the Future: Top dystopian future films.
]]>Chopping Mall: Best 80s horror
There’s definitely more that I really love but didn’t think to add to this list because my 80s horror binge was long before I started using letterboxd. But back in the day I loved me a slasher 💙💙
Edit: added company of wolves because I loved it, though that does mean a teary goodbye to sleep away camp. gone but not forgotten. eat shit and live. 💔
]]>Short cuts: Top anthology films.
Now ittedly like half of these are hyperlink films not anthologies, but since the official showdown description annd title include several hyperlink films I think it’s fair play.
Also as someone who likes shorts, there are a lot of anthologies that I have only seen segments of which I did not consider for this list.
Stage Door: Best stage to screen adaptations
edit: decided to remove casablanca as it was pointed out that it was based on a script for a stage play that was never actually staged, so I’m not sure it fits the prompt.
