“figures it’d be something like this.”

mostly just fine until it suddenly turns into one of the greatest body horror spectacles i’ve ever seen. it’s easy to tell exactly what direction this is heading in right from the beginning, and yet my jaw was still on the floor during the final reel. some of the most gloriously disgusting practical effects of all time. nobody did it like Screaming Mad George. shout out to the butthead.
Spooky graveyards, a big ominous castle, fog machines, cobwebs, secret ageways, impeccable Gothic atmosphere, Vincent Price doing what he does best, Poe and Lovecraft blended together — this has just about everything you could ask for from something like this. Rest in peace to the god Roger Corman.
Oh my god I adored everything about this!!! Some of the most joyous and invigorating filmmaking ever put to screen. Every second of this bursts with life and energy. Not sure if I’ve ever seen anything that captures the exhilarating feeling of falling in love quite like this does. Just unbelievably gorgeous and romantic. Feels like the movie I’ve been looking for my entire life. Can’t wait to watch it again and again and again.
Oh my god that’s how you make a fucking movie!!!! Absolute masterpiece. One of the most peerless and exhilarating displays of craft I’ve ever seen. Coppola went insane with this one. All the colors and sets and costumes and dissolves and miniatures and shadows and in-camera effects — everything is just to die for. Practically every shot is the most sumptuous, gorgeous thing ever put to screen. Coppola took a massive swing for the fences here and I’m so grateful…
