Really wanted to see this when it was in theaters last month, but it just so happened to be during a week when I was too busy to go to the movies. Still had a ton of fun with this at home, though, even though it would’ve been even more fun with a crowd. Feels like Johnson doubling down on the strengths of the first Knives Out with even more confidence. It’s really fucking funny (the sweatpants joke and the Magnolia joke got the hardest laughs from me), and I thought the mystery was engaging and smartly crafted, although the climax maybe left a little to be desired. Liked the cast more this time, too; Janelle Monaé in particular is a standout, with a layered and fascinating performance. There’s such a winning formula here with these movies. Johnson returning at the helm, Daniel Craig returning with his goofy accent, a new mystery and setting each time — I will happily watch a million more. Just give them a wide release in theaters!
