]]>My favourites to least favourite movies (And occasional TV show) released in the UK in 2025
]]>Ignore the scores versus the rankings, this list is more about my favorite, most re-watchable MCU movies as opposed to what I believe are the best, most well crafted films (Which wouldn’t be too much different). Winter Soldier is probably the best film, however I get more enjoyment out of Ragnarok and get more emotional hits plus ‘fuck yeah!’ moments out of Endgame and Infinity War 🙃

]]>2022 has been a good year for a few years specifically for going to the cinema. Here I celebrate some of my favorite movie experiences and some that though I was too young to watch at the cinema, I’d love to watch on the big screen. Anything pre 2000, I probably never watched in the cinema.
*In no particular order, however the first half of the list is higher in my estimation. And first quarter is pretty much in order*
Avatar 2009 - Best 3D I’ve ever experienced.
Mad Max: Fury Road - Some of the most incredible visuals and most epic scope of anything in modern cinema.
Top Gunn: Maverick - The pinnacle of pure entertainment and the case study of the merits of practical effects and stunts. Plus bonus points for seeing Tom Cruses face being deformed by the G’s.
Jurassic Park - Just an incredible achievement that is among the films that set up modern cinema. Haven’t seen it in the cinema yet, but I’ll be there at the next anniversary showing.
Dredd 2010 - Second best 3D experience and maybe the last good 3D experience I’ve had (Note: Not seen Avatar 2 in imax 3D yet)
Avengers: Endgame - It has to be on the list for some of the best communal experience of anything I’ve ever watched. Also (In my opinion) this is the only film franchise I’ve seen with a satisfying end of an era. There has been no franchise that has ended so perfectly, ever! No Star Wars, DC, Pixar. Harry Potter was never my thing and Lord of the Rings is second only second to Endgame for me, but far behind with its 15 endings.
Lawrence of Arabia - Some of the most incredible visuals and most epic scope of anything in old cinema.
Blade Runner 2049 & Dune - Some of the most incredible visuals, scores and scope of anything in modern cinema, just steps behind Fury Road for me.

]]>My favourites to least favourite movies (And occasional TV show) released in the UK in 2022
Note - As we enter 2023 and I look back on the the list, I feel like it was a weird year for film. Firstly, because there are some unconventional films on there, but also because 1-5 are really high as my favourites. The 6-20ish are pretty much all in contention for 6-10. I just couldn’t pick! This was a good year in film, there was the usual handful of great to very good films, but a ton of good ones. More than most years.

]]>I mean, the Last of Us on HBO is number 1, by far and away, but keeping it strictly to movies, man this list is difficult! Had to put a couple that aren’t strictly based on anything. Tron legacy is still enjoyable for me, especially its aesthetics and music. I look forward to see if Mario makes it on there. D&D was excellent!
Letterboxd, update the system to allow TV series! I’d be very interested to revisit this list in a few years with subsequent Last of Us seasons, as well as Horizon and God of War, whatever format they come out on!
I know Metropolis wasn’t nominated for an Oscar (Were the Oscars around in 1927?🤔), but the score is phenomenal and influential and most certainly should be on the list.

]]>I’m kind of obsessed with Iceland. I’ve been there twice and am in love with the country and people. I take any opportunity to see their impressive landscape, as well as there magical northern lights and to also appreciate the wit of the peoples. Can’t wait to go back again and again!
The list below are films that are primarily made by Icelandic people, but not exclusively. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty has to make it on there as it is the film that really introduced me to the country! To state the obvious there is some weird stuff here, so the rankings are a little rough and haphazard, so don’t pay to much attention to the middle and bottom. As it’s all pretty good stuff.

]]>What makes a film weird?
I don’t know! You just know it when you see it. Some weird films are subtly weird, others are more overt and bat shit crazy. Very generally I consider a weird film to be more Indy (usually) or one that slipped under the radar of people around me.
You know? That film that when your non film buff friends ask “what you’d recommend?” and you explain this fantastic movie that is interesting and/or bizarre and then they look at you with a puzzled look on their face. That is a weird film.
Weird films are ones that may have a particular sense of humor or are high concept or are artsy fartsy… Or a mixture of all and more. This list is a reminder of films I’ve watched and some I really like that aren’t blockbuster franchise films, a list I can on to my friends.
Not in any particular order, although the first half of the list is pretty representative of my favorites.
