Audrey Hepburn knew how to steal a million hearts in her time.  Don’t wait until dark — me in this cinematic charade, as I follow this always fair lady through her filmography!

• Roman Holiday

  Balancing the regality of her character with a free spirited inquisitiveness, she charms and delights.

• Charade

  Audrey Hepburn runs around horny AF throughout the whole shebang, there’s some killer action sequences, the dialogue is top notch, and Paris has rarely looked lovelier.

• Two for the Road

  Audrey for once does not go gallivanting about in Givenchy, instead using off the rack clothing like the red sweater and jeans combo (in which she looks delectable) to fashionable Swinging Sixties dresses by Mary Quant.

• How to Steal a Million

  Audrey Hepburn and Peter O’Toole both have a very light comedic touch, and play off each other marvellously.

• The Children's Hour

  MacLaine is especially good at projecting her inner feelings without coming straight out and itting them … Audrey’s role was more low key but by the end she has a certain steeliness that really works.

• The Nun's Story

  Sister Luke is a good person … Being a good Catholic, she believes her best chance at (helping people) is becoming a nun.  However, she is so much her own person that the rules and repetition intrude on what she really wants to do, which is just nurse.  It’s fascinating to watch her realize that perhaps she just isn’t suited to her vocation.

• My Fair Lady

  When she does the songs like “Just You Wait”, “The Rain in Spain”, and “I Could Have Danced All Night”, it’s magnificent.

• Wait Until Dark

  Audrey Hepburn went off with banger after banger after banger in the 1960s, didn’t she?

• Funny Face

  Audrey gives her all and then some, and it’s absolutely infectious.  If you can’t watch the “Bonjour, Paris!” number with a big grin on your face, you’re probably dead inside.  And her duet with Kay Thompson, “On How To Be Lovely”, is a complete charmer.

• The Lavender Hill Mob

  As for Audrey Hepburn, she shows up in one scene very early in the film, as a character called Chiquita.  Although she’s billed in the end credits … it’s really a nothing role.  But it helped me finally watch this classic of British cinema, so that’s good!

• All About Eve

  Marilyn appears in a couple of scenes as up and coming actress Claudia Caswell, and more than holds her own with the stellar cast.

• Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

  Monroe’s way of speaking (and acting - witness the first time she sits on the bed in the ocean liner) is delightfully childlike and innocent.  I have a feeling Ben Stiller stole many of his mannerisms as Derek Zoolander from Marilyn here.

• Some Like It Hot

  She’s great in it, and really pulls off the character of Sugar quite nicely, from her good natured self-assuredness to the loneliness and heartbreak of a life not fully satisfying.

• The Asphalt Jungle

  Marilyn Monroe in a small part as Calhern’s on-the-side dame, Angela Phinlay,

• The Seven Year Itch

  Monroe is the total package here, however.  She exudes charisma, and a combination of sex positivity and complete innocence that is absolutely charming.  We can’t take our eyes off her.

• Monkey Business

  She plays a wonderful straight man to Cary Grant, and acquits herself quite well against the Hollywood legend.

• Don't Bother to Knock

  She was fabulous as Nell, slowly revealing the despair and destabilization of her character.  It’s quite the stunning performance in her first real lead role.

• The Prince and the Showgirl

  Marilyn is once again completely charming in the role of the bubbly American amongst stern European types, and to my eyes I don’t think she ever looked better.

• The Misfits

  That last scene with Gable and Monroe in the truck had me in tears — and it’s hard not to read it as a literal journey to the stars for the two actors, in the final completed film for both.

• Clash by Night

  She does well in a small part.  I believe it’s her first role billed above the title, and although she doesn’t stand out she fits right in as a rural cannery girl.

• One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

  2.  Watch a movie that takes place in Oregon.
  
  As big a fuck you to the man as this movie is, it simultaneously manages to make you feel depressed and optimistic at the same time.

• Immaculate

  3.  Watch a film released in 2024.
  
  There’s something about religion and horror that just works, doesn’t it?

• The Young Victoria

  4.  Watch a movie starring a Star Wars actor or directed by a Star Wars director.
  
  Bring back the mid-budget historical drama starring great actors!!!!!!

• Arthurs Quest

  5.  Watch a movie based on Arthurian folklore.
  
  This movie is, quite frankly, not very good, but it has a goofy sense of humour and wears its heart on its sleeve.

• Sid and Nancy

  6.  Watch a movie released in 1986.
  
  Gary Oldman giving the inverted V as Sid Vicious, 31 years before doing it as Churchill.

• The Prisoner of Shark Island

  7.  Watch a movie that either takes place on an island or features dinosaurs.
  
  The Prisoner of Shark Island is an underrated gem that deserves more recognition in the Ford pantheon.

• The Blood on Satan's Claw

  8.  Watch a folk horror movie.
  
  YMMV.

• Mississippi Burning

  9.  Watch a movie starring Willem Dafoe.
  
  How TF did we get to a place where this topic is still relevant?

• The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

  10.  Watch a movie directed by Wes Anderson.
  
  Steve Zissou is all of us, and the “life aquatic” is the journey we all go on.
