heh that saul’s meats guy seems like a silly butcher… holy shit is that bert fischer?
]]>maybe the fact that i have less time to see movies these days has softened me on all movies. cus like this is just so so so so (and i cannot stress this part enough) so stupid but i was kinda enjoying every second of it? hilarious how ye ole trolley problem is made into one single “eh should we kill those babies” “dude no we cannot kill those babies” ass joke. like mind numbingly dumb stuff but i do suppose the ring of fire burns, burns, burns
]]>made me laugh but also made me wonder about every social interaction i’ve had in the past two months and worry that everyone i’m friends with secretly hates me and i just can’t pick up the cues
]]>so simple and effective and joyous i just needed this again so bad
]]>hell yeah, in the mood for a nice entertaining summer blockbuster so when you give me a cross between django unchained and buried from black ops 2 zombies (no like for real tho) i’ll get down with it. had a lotta chances to be sooooo reductive and then was maybe only a little reductive. if i were in a stodgier mood maybe i’d have some more critiques but i’m kinda feeling like ebert after seeing speed 2 like why not just be happy and enjoy things and stop to smell the roses sometimes?
]]>sheesh last time i road rage at someone goin a bit slow
]]>+ on the air eps 1 and 7 which are very different than this
]]>return ep 8 after. owl present. cherry pie. gnarly night
]]>makes me want to embark on the beautiful, eye-opening journey of parenthood
]]>im sorry
]]>seriously good. like unbelievably good. it appears i've been underrating this since seeing it in high school english class years ago.
]]>kind of had a lot of fun with this + love some good bobby peru action
]]>perhaps just one of those bangers that bridges the gap between the guy who played on your intramural basketball team and the guy who won’t stop lecturing everybody they know on every film take they’ve ever had. just a good ole fashioned “oh hell yeah moneyball rips”
sometimes the coolest guy you know is also divorced and insecure. if anything this makes him even cooler
]]>so gnarly
]]>as a bong junky i will never stray from my glorious king but hear me out there are two different movies stuffed within this. cant tell if each individual one would be better than this or if this was the best possible end product idk it was cool tho bong i give you the , following up parasite is like the biggest film burden since brady corbet had to make an architecture movie with hardly any architecture a couple weeks ago
]]>i mean seriously superb; one of the most uplifting watches while simultaneously showing a sobering look at how fucked it is that the american system pins people against each other. needed to reinvigorate my quarterly baseball kick too
]]>i think the fact that i didn’t immediately log this and since have somewhat forgotten my take on it is very telling
]]>forgot to log. fitting
]]>just so killer and so much better than i expected it to be. miss that old timey alien music. one of the most additive Q&As i’ve been to in a long time!
]]>based on watching this, prime video thinks i’ll love RiffTrax: Superargo and the Faceless Giants. are they cookin or?
]]>was super tired so i’m not sure if that was good since it woke me up or bad cus i couldn’t provide the energy it was giving
]]>i fear this guy vinterberg knows what he’s doing
]]>seeing some shit like this or some like it hot changes the cadence by which i talk. i feel like i rattle off 7 sentences in 5 seconds just out of pure instinct and have to reel myself back in
]]>more complex than either the 5 star reviews or the 0.5 star reviews give it credit for lmao. but that being said i understand the perspective of those 0.5s more than some of these 5s i mean jesus man i thought this was excellent but some of you freaks on this app make me question myself damn
]]>more and more like the big lebowski every time
]]>extremely pleasant. i love when the most deadpan dialogue and humor is also the most humanistic shit you’ll ever see
]]>Watched on Saturday January 18, 2025.
]]>you know what after sitting on this i fear it was mid as hell
]]>just as impressed with the first half, just as conflicted with its take
]]>teased for the whole last 15 minutes that it was gonna be corny as hell and then absolutely refused to be corny as hell. so great!
]]>full troll lars getting self reflective which is good and dandy but i do think i prefer when he takes swings at ideas bigger than… himself
]]>real tough watch for people who hate joy
]]>been a while since i’ve had a real good ole fashioned spook! unequivocally the scariest eggers t by a pretty wide margin imo. i know there’s some interesting stuff to dig into if you’d like but i kinda love the idea that eggers is just this guy who’s sick at making movies and fixated on a new piece of lore/media every couple years. sincerely wonder what he’ll do next
]]>using this to log the entire director’s cut as one entire work. floored by some scenes in here. as usual, really gripped by the story even if it’s got some patented lars self-pats-on-the-back. i had some half baked idea about how reflective this whole character of seligman is of the overly analytical film watcher but then uh those last ten minutes threw a bit of a wrench into that. what sticks in my mind now is that there’s a very, very distinct gap between empathy/humanism and intellectual curiosity, even if they may appear similar from time to time. there’s a difference between listening to a story and picking apart and metaphorizing a story. as ironic as it is to say after blathering on in three separate reviews about this five and a half hour entanglement, i’m gonna choose to do the former
]]>the highs are nearly as high as volume 1, but not quite as consistent. judging these as two separate entities i think this is the weaker of the two, but also it’s a real “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts” kind of situation. also i’m not EXACTLY sure which shots and scenes are in the director’s cut that i just watched but not the theatrical cut, but god damn right up there with the most grueling scenes i’ve ever seen
]]>director’s cut but taking a break between the two for my own sanity and cus i’m hungry. this dude definitely does get a little ridiculous with the metaphors but wow i’d be lying if i said some of these segments weren’t incredibly engaging and more complex than expected… mrs. h i’m lookin at you. will report back again in several hours
]]>always down to throw the tin foil cap back on for this one. music boxers were… music boxing.
when i first saw this i vowed to only ever see it in theaters and i think i’m gonna keep that up forever. gotta find a few more to add to this repertoire
]]>as a park chan wook fan i did not give this nearly enough credit for those gnarly ass transitions. even more heartfelt than i it!
]]>how it feels when you agree to hang out with a friend of a loose friend and very quickly you realize it’s just gonna be the worst time in the world but you’re too timid to make an excuse so you just ride it out
]]>painfully wants us to know how self aware it is at all times. idk man noah baumbach also does some self stroking but at least he seems like a better person
]]>will always be a personal favorite
]]>watched with brother again of course. same time next year
]]>just runs out of steam so quickly. expected this to be so funny and it was for like 12 minutes. doesn’t get a “haha predicted roomba” sympathy stars from me
]]>i love how jonny gives it a full swing every time. even if some land a bit more than others i appreciate when shit isn’t just winking at you the whole time just in case you think it sucks. charlie kaufman ass premise which i really found super interesting, and charlie kaufman ass movie in the sense that it uncovered something unique about humanity with that insane premise
]]>absolute all timer for people who like movies which function like the easiest crossword puzzle you’ve ever played before but with an absurdly large answers page which isn’t even flipped upside down or obscured or anything and you can’t finish the crossword puzzle until you recognize this answers sheet and compare it to your own just to make sure the words you found were in fact the ones the crossword puzzle was hoping you found.
god. one hugh grant and some nice shots away from igniting a mormon conversion. shockingly after all of this it was pretty fun to watch tho. but man these dudes are on indefinite timeout
]]>ok i’m sorry alright
]]>crazy bookend considering it had a scene very similar to vulcanizadora (the first festival film i caught) in of anxiety levels. i really enjoyed this
]]>i realize that everyone ever will say this but it is staggering how many movies tilda is asked to play multiple roles in. something about super poetic dialogue in films about deeply personal and human subjects irks me a bit. held it back just a bit
]]>funkiest dude maybe ever. so hilarious but not as hilarious as the guy sitting right in front of me found it
]]>super funny paradox of a movie. stephen malkmus q&a was exactly what you’d expect (compliment)
]]>divinely anointed institution <3
