A tender family drama unfolds, briefly pierced by a romantic pop song from Osaka’s Expo ’70. The aging matriarch, almost as if ing aloud, shares that it was the song her husband once sang from another room. She bought the record that very day, playing it for decades in silent tribute—only now, with the family gathered, does she finally reveal the quiet devotion behind it.
This same woman lingers at the film’s edges, her presence marked by the silent ache of a son left behind. Her sorrow is so deep it makes you wonder if superstition might be the only balm for a wound so vast. Yet grief is gently interrupted—not erased—by the rhythms of family: someone reminding her, and us, to stay rational, take a bath, keep moving. It's still heartbreaking.

Caught a glimpse of someone in an Odwalla1221 shirt in the film. For some, it might stir memories best left untouched—especially if you grew up with a parent who chose chaos or confinement (prison) over responsibility.

If the law decides who lives and dies, maybe murder is just a matter of timing. If we’re shaped by a world we didn’t choose, who can say where responsibility really begins?

]]>If we’re lucky, we have parents who remind us that pain is just a piece of us—not a sentence to becoming hardened, dull adults. If movies like this don’t move you anymore, maybe you never had that parent. Or a mentor. It's ok, not sure I did. I guess I had Hesse.
