Wild that everyone is arguably giving a career-worst performance. A Guy Ritchie-directed adventure about the Fountain of Youth should have been such an easy slam dunk, but it's missing that usual zip and energy from so many of his films. There are a few flashes of that, and coupled with the broad setup, it's enough to at least qualify as "watchable" - but only just.
First hour or so is a mess, but a strong finish always helps. And a less-than Mission: Impossible movie is still better than most movies.
There's a scene where Britney Spears' pop classic "Toxic" is playing, and it's a highlight of the movie - the song's still a banger btw. That wouldn't be an issue if the movie in question was the feature length version of the "Toxic" music video. But alas, it's a movie about spiders and people with special spider powers sooo...
I think underwhelmed is probably the term I'd use, even though I still enjoyed it quite a bit. But after what Ti West did with X and Pearl, it didn't fully satisfy as a conclusion to the story. A bit of a clunker of a final reveal that felt way too obvious.
