Fantastic looking opening titles coupled with suitable song about killing and stentorian narration, it couldn't have started better.
Downhill all the way after that.
Shame to see the first Mexican bandit leader shot in the head in the first few minutes as he had a lovely (dubbed) speaking voice and projected well.
I couldn't get behind the hero & heroine, not so much because of their terrible acting - including one of the most awkward kissing scenes I've ever seen -…

The scariest thing was when the Irish vampire started to do Riverdance 😱

Uniformly good performances (including two from Jordan and a great amusing turn from Lindo) and handsomely filmed - the twin brothers' suits and hats alone should justify the costume design Oscar imo. It obviously takes a turn halfway through but I wonder what it would've been like without vampires as the characters and setting are so compelling before they turn up?
I didn't recognise Hailee Steinfeld at…

“How are we going to create the bovine cooperative?”

Cinema both as stunning art and propaganda.
Eisenstein & Aleksandrov’s film is composed of a fascinating collection of beautiful static camera shots forming a simple narrative. Starts off showing how tough farm work and rural living was in Russia at the beginning of the 20th century, how priests failed the people and religion is a big useless con that can’t be relied on. Then the Soviets turn up with their fancy butter…

A load of filthy hippies re-enact a Christian musical version of Shakespeare’s Othello set in ‘60s New Mexico.
The only reason I’m watching this is my love of all things Patrick McGoohan and this is his sole feature film directing credit (he of course directed TV episodes of Danger Man, Columbo, and created The Prisoner), but it’s a real oddity.
Late, great musician Richie Havens plays Othello and sings some nice songs with his soulful husky voice, which I’m…

That's exactly what you didn't want to happen on opening night.
Good charismatic, amusing performances from the younger actors here, less so by their parents - in particular the main characters' mother made very little impression.
The exception of course being the late great Tony Todd. RIP, gone too soon.

A solid entry in the relaunched series. I'll take another.

My cinema seat was slightly broken. As the film went on I started to think the central rod would suddenly break away and impale me anus to skull, killing me instantly.

“Who’s texting me?”
”Your stupid stepmother. She’s got texting diarrhoea.”

After 37 years I have very little memory of the original film. Maybe I should have rewatched it, but I didn’t, so I can’t tell you whether this is as good as the first one or not. I don’t ever being that blown away by the original anyway. But I loved this one!
Back in the ‘80s and ‘90s Winona Ryder used to be my girlfriend. She never knew…
