"I don't like the idea that I'm not in control of my life."

Surprisingly, I've only seen The Matrix once before and I wasn't totally locked in. Luckily enough, this year marks the 25th anniversary and we got it back in theaters! Witnessing the lobby shoot-out scene in a Dolby cinema changed me. This movie revolutionized the action/sci-fi genre and was a pivotal moment in pop culture. It's nearly impossible to wrap your head around how the Wachowskis' brought this screenplay to life and in such an astonishing way but they absolutely cooked.

The Matrix mixes wild action with existential concepts, seamlessly blending the smart screenplay with the over-the-top "coolness" of the film. I mean, this movie is so cool and edgy that it comes off as goofy at times. When something is so original, it's easy to spoof or make fun of it but that just adds to the legend of it all. The sexy cast, unforgettable score, insane visual effects, and amazing editing really made this an instant classic.

There are so many truly iconic moments but the one that made me smile the most was Trinity's "dodge this" scene. It does not get better than that! The sunglasses, leather outfits, and color schemes will live forever. Everything is so grunge about this movie and while it's not my favorite, this is undeniably one of the most iconic films of all time. This went from a 3 to a 4.5 after this viewing which is saying a lot, I left the theater feeling fantastic. Cinemas, please never stop re-releasing classic films.
