The Straight Story

1999

★★★★ Watched

It's hard to put into words how much David Lynch meant to the film community, and to him, I decided to watch one of the remaining few feature length films he directed that I have not seen (the other being Dune).

It was a bit strange watching a David Lynch film that's rated G (it was on Disney+ at the time of writing this). It was a bit haunting watching a film about making a long journey to see…

Earlier today, I unfortunately had to put my dog to sleep. I received her as a gift exactly 15 years ago to the day. She was a cairn terrier, which is the same breed of dog as Toto. I knew that for closure I had to watch this film tonight. It provided plenty of relief as every time I saw Toto I got very teary eyed. I really wish I could post a picture of her on here just to…

Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion

Simultaneously epic, confusing, and an existential mindfuck. It had me asking the question: What if David Lynch made an anime in the same vein as Gundam?

It’s hard to come to with what this film is. Does this ending contradict the TV series ending? End of Evangelion gives a lot of context to the tv ending, and that helps me to appreciate both endings more (a bit confusing I know).

I really don’t watch a lot of anime, so I’m not the best judge when it comes to the genre, but I enjoyed how surreal this was. I’m excited to check out the rebuilds.

Neon Genesis Evangelion

I watched this to finally see End of Evangelion which for a long time I've seen hailed as one of the all time greats when it comes to animation. I enjoyed this for what it was, but it got a bit tiresome when almost every episode was, "Oh no, another angel is here, we must attack it!" Followed by a large scale battle that went on for a short amount of time. I kind of wish there had been more…

I am floored at the fact that there was no use of CGI in this, but I am also not surprised as the majority of this is really dialogue focused. Going into this, I was excited to see how the Trinity Test was going to look as it was well known that practical effects were used for this, but an hour into it, that was more in the back of my mind as I was more focused on the dialogue.…

Definitely a commentary on Hollywood and how obsessed they are with age, youth, and perfection. I love that Demi Moore, who hasn't been in anything relevant in a while, was cast as the lead, and was perfect for the role. It also seems to be critical of procedures and weight loss drugs that people will take without really understanding the consequences (I'm looking at you ozempic).

It wasn't hard to have an idea of what was going to happen when…
