Sinners

2025

★★★★ Watched

I’ve been letting this marinate a bit since last night, and honestly has maybe even grown on me just a tad. Combines so many different genres and reaches corners in storytelling that I’ve rarely ever seen before. Everyone and everything captures the era this film was set in beautifully, and don’t even get me started with the music. I’m not the biggest fan of the final act or so, but overall had a blast, it’s hard to complain.

Nosferatu

2024

★★★½ 16

What a way to kick off the year! Huge fan of everything Eggers’ has done so far (haven’t see The VVitch yet), his visceral, historic but masterfully helmed approach to film-making is something that will definitely cement him into one of the greats if he continues.

Nosferatu takes him down that path a step further. While it is my least favourite of his so far, this is Eggers just completely taking over and being Eggers. With a story for the…

Longlegs

2024

★★★★ Watched

Longlegs lacks an overall punch from the script, and its pacing throughout the runtime can feel inconsistent, especially venturing into the final act, but my gosh, does literally everything else hit the spot and stick with you. Monroe is magnetic, everything you’ve heard about Cage is true (one of the best horror performances I’ve personally ever seen), and Perkin’s direction, the sound design and cinematography all work in symphony too to create a thoroughly and deeply disturbing atmosphere you’ll find…

Barbie

2023

★★★★½ Watched

Completely and utterly flabbergasted on how much I loved this, but I should’ve never underestimated it in the first place with Gerwig at the wheel. One of the types of movies that I could probably go back to any day of the week, not think too hard, and just have a blast watching. A lightning in a bottle film, and I truly, truly mean that. Margot + Ryan = cinematic perfection.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

2023

★★★★½ Watched

When you think the world has already got practically peak animation, comic book filmmaking and Spider-Man all in one back in 2018… can’t believe I’m saying it, but this might have sured the original.

Bigger and bolder in every conceivable way, yet I think they manage to pull off every single punch they make. Don’t really have the words to describe how happy and strangely invincible this film made me feel, but if there was ever a movie that needs to be seen to be believed - it has to be this one.

The third act 😶

John Wick: Chapter 4

2023

★★★★½ Watched

Takes the focused story-telling of the original, expansive world-building and lore of the second, and truly breathtaking fight choreography and set pieces of its predecessor to yes… it’s true… create one of the greatest action films ever put to screen (at least from what I’ve seen). This is a behemoth of a picture, yet it never crumbles beneath its own weight and earns it’s nearly 3 hour runtime. I could go on and on about how stunning this is visually…

Terrifier 2

Happily enjoyed 60% this movie (I was looking away completely or staring through the tiny gaps in between my fingers for the other 40% cause wtf)

Jurassic World Dominion

2022

★★★★ Watched

I should try even harder to go into movies without any expectations. That means no reviews, no videos, nothing. As dumb as these films have always been (including and especially this one), having no sense of how bad or good Dominion was all for the better.

This probably won’t age that well, but I can’t deny how great of a time this was. Personally one of the better blockbusters in recent years, and definitely my favourite of the trilogy!

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

2022

★★½ Watched

In the words of Greg Heffley’s dad from Diary of a Wimpy Kid 3:

Not mad. Just disappointed.

This really could have been something else, but nothing in recent memory screams more “mid” than this. Sad face.

The Adam Project

Super flawed, but the emotional core to this was something that hit harder than most films I’ve seen in recent memory.

Spider-Man: No Way Home

Wow. Jonny boy’s outdone himself. So many emotions ran through me watching this thing, and all I can say is the damn hype paid off. Insanely enjoyable, surprisingly gritty at times, and packing one hell of an emotional punch. I was considering only giving this 3.5 stars since it does get somewhat convoluted around the 2nd act, but my experience watching it was filled with so much joy that I just had to add an extra-half star. A near-perfect blockbuster!
