Jurassic World Dominion

I should try even harder to go into movies without any expectations. That means no reviews, no videos, nothing. As dumb as these films have always been (including and especially this one), having no sense of how bad or good Dominion was all for the better.

This probably won’t age that well, but I can’t deny how great of a time this was. Personally one of the better blockbusters in recent years, and definitely my favourite of the trilogy!

Terrifier 2

Happily enjoyed 60% this movie (I was looking away completely or staring through the tiny gaps in between my fingers for the other 40% cause wtf)

The Adam Project

Super flawed, but the emotional core to this was something that hit harder than most films I’ve seen in recent memory.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

2022

★★½ Watched

I feel like there’s a really good movie in here somewhere, but nearly all its pieces are not as cohesive as you hoped it would be and are rather scattered all over the place. This looks great in a lot of parts and the performances keep this engaging, but I expected much more…

The ending had me tears though, just so freakin’ beautiful. Wakanda forever.

Creed III

2023

★★★½ Watched

Right now, the weakest in the trilogy for me with a rushed third act, but I feel like my ranking could easily change over time cause all 3 feel so different from one another in their respective ways. Jonathan Majors is a triumph and might have actually given my favourite performance from the entire franchise.

Barbie

Completely and utterly flabbergasted on how much I loved this, but I should’ve never underestimated it in the first place with Gerwig at the wheel. One of the types of movies that I could probably go back to any day of the week, not think too hard, and just have a blast watching. A lightning in a bottle film, and I truly, truly mean that. Margot + Ryan = cinematic perfection.

John Wick: Chapter 4

2023

★★★★½ Watched

Takes the focused story-telling of the original, expansive world-building and lore of the second, and truly breathtaking fight choreography and set pieces of its predecessor to yes… it’s true… create one of the greatest action films ever put to screen (at least from what I’ve seen). This is a behemoth of a picture, yet it never crumbles beneath its own weight and earns it’s nearly 3 hour runtime. I could go on and on about how stunning this is visually…

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

2023

What a beautiful way to end this trilogy. I do have a few complaints regarding the length of this, but that might’ve just been because of how tired I was. Other than that, this is essentially peak MCU. The character work, stakes, humour (Drax + Mantis combo >), and best of all, its heart, is what makes this one of the finest and most important films this franchise has to offer. When seeing these group of loveable weirdos together for…

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

2023

★★★★½ Watched

When you think the world has already got practically peak animation, comic book filmmaking and Spider-Man all in one back in 2018… can’t believe I’m saying it, but this might have sured the original.

Bigger and bolder in every conceivable way, yet I think they manage to pull off every single punch they make. Don’t really have the words to describe how happy and strangely invincible this film made me feel, but if there was ever a movie that needs to be seen to be believed - it has to be this one.
