It's Such a Beautiful Day

Trust me man, I'm even more disappointed than you.

I'm pretty sure (and I'm hoping) it was just my viewing experience that ultimately shaped my rating, and not the film itself. Completely my bad, but I had a lot of stuff ahead in the day that I just HAD to worry and plan for during this. Plus, the volume was pretty low since my whole fam was sleeping, which meant I couldn't hear a fair bit of the dialogue.

But…

The Darjeeling Limited

A charming film by Wes Anderson with 3 great lead performances from Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman. I really loved the soundtrack and also the Indian backdrop.

Moonrise Kingdom

To be totally honest, I was a bit disappointed. I was expecting something of extravaganza, but for me there was nothing intriguing/striking about the script and plot, and there's some forgettable side characters. However, this looks awesome, the score is bizarre and unconventional as always with Wes' films, and I even kinda liked the child performances better than PROFESSIONAL actors like Bruce Willis and Edward Norton... Not a Wes Anderson film that I'm gonna keep going back to, but I quite still enjoyed it.

Punch-Drunk Love

Without getting too personal, I related with Barry in so many ways I didn’t even know a film could capture...

I’ve gotta it, the direction PTA took with Punch-Drunk Love was something I had to warm up to at first. Sandler’s eccentric performance, the long static takes, the unusual score, or those bizarre animated interludes.

But after a bit, I realised how truly different this film was, how it was something I haven’t quite seen before. And I just love that,…

12 Angry Men

The script and performances are terrific. I really think this film is the closest to perfect as possible. The direction is practically flawless by Lumet, it’s like you’re right there in the room as a 13th jury member. 99% of this masterpiece takes place in the 1 room, yet it never loses steam. THIS is how you make a film with a seemingly low budget but fantastic script.

I’m interested to see how well this will hold up on future rewatches though...

Took me a while, but my god, I loved this film. Personally, the lack of backstory to The Driver makes his character even more compelling. The film is shot beautifully with the backdrop of LA, the score is aesthetic, and the direction is brilliant, with the script handling a romance with a revenge/crime story seamlessly. My only real flaw is that some of the side characters seem a bit one-dimensional.

I’ve literally been trying to write a review for this since yesterday which is when I first watched it, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve just kept erasing and starting over. A majority of that probably comes from how much of a perfectionist and an ass writer I am… but I think at least some of it is owed to how aggressively profound I found Aftersun. I genuinely have no words to describe how I feel about it right now. There’s only a…

Soul

★★★★½ Watched

I’m not 100% sure, but this might be Top 5 Pixar for me, EVER. Soul is yet another stunning, dazzling, and powerful tale from Pixar about finding our purpose in life and appreciating the little things every day.

This film honestly came out of nowhere for me in of emotion, it hit me like the train. Soul moved me beyond tears and the themes that it presented resonated with me so much. Along with beautiful animation, compelling characters, and a fantastic score, it’s personally one of the best animated films of the past decade!

As soon as those credits hit, it took a while for me to just... do something. It became really hard to do simple things like stopping the movie or moving my arms or legs. I just... sat there, shaking a little, thinking and comprehending what I just witnessed.

It's crazy to think how a film about a man struggling with a sex addiction could impact and resonate so much with a frickin 15 year-old. I think that goes to show…

Lost in Translation

If there was one word to call Lost In Translation, it would be “mesmerising”. This film honestly blew me away. But not in the way, for example, Mulholland Drive did, which is a film I watched for the first time recently. It didn’t have any mind-blowing themes or underlying messages that had to be discovered by piecing together the intricate plot (which I loved doing btw). It’s just a simple (but also complex in a way) tale of two people who…
