I have a bullpen of well revered movies that I've delayed watching, not due to lack of interest, but out of a sense of delayed gratification and to retain that feeling that there's still this vast pool of masterpieces awaiting my discovery just around the bend. For my 100th movie of the year, I wanted to watch something special so I finally decided it was time to experience Harakiri after hearing so much about it for so many years…

A year or so ago I was out on a walk during a late afternoon break, and a crow fell out of the sky to it's death right to the side of me. Walking over to the grassy area where his body lied, I was overwhelmed with a rush of lucidity as I stared into the crow's reflective and motionless eyes. Despite the initial sadness, there was an odd sense of peace that washed over me as the wind…

Excellent dialog and tension building. I LOVED the first 75% of this movie. It had me intellectually engaged while also on the edge of my seat, so it's a slight shame that the resolution felt a bit rushed and underdeveloped. I'm still giving Heretic a high score because what it set it to do, it did quite well...I just wish more thought would have been given to keeping the same level of quality into the conclusion. Worth checking out if you like atmospheric mysterious horror, just manage your expectations a bit.

I was really hoping this would be sort of like a German version of Game Night...and to a certain extent it was, just not quite as well done or fun as it could have been. I'm a sucker for this type of set up...a game night that goes hilariously wrong...the only problem with Blame the Game is that despite a promising set up and some occasional laughs, they just didn't take it far enough or lean into the absurdity…

Okay…I it, this is only my second Godard film. That being said, both films I’ve seen of his (Breathless and now Vivre Sa Vie) have left me feeling a bit cold and uninvolved. With Vivre Sa Vie I feel as if I can ire the parts but not the sum. The acting, dialog, camerawork, story, etc…all pretty wonderful…yet when I step back at the end I don’t feel connected or moved by these characters at all. There is this…

Well...shit. That was rough. Beautiful, but rough. Basically this is like Blue Valentine if you were to throw a child with terminal cancer into the already bleak and depressing picture. The experience of watching this is like getting a cinematic blow from a sledgehammer to the gut.

This thing shattered me...I was broken by the end. To give a idea of how powerful and sad this film is...I watched this right after seeing 12 Years a Slave and this…
