Man I really don’t know how to feel about this. I mostly want to know what Ethan Coen was going for, because it feels like he’s trying for a pulpy, tongue in cheek, dark comedy that him and his brother are known for, but it feels … amateurish? The choice of these silly edits to jump to the next scene feel like something out of a kids film but it would happen right after you watch some woman getting eaten…
This masterpiece is:
- 50% faux-science talk and board meetings
- 25% of the main character pining over a primate she met once as a baby, her absentee dad, and her totally not-lesbians Russian friend
- 10% building-sized lizard monster that stealth-kills dudes standing in the middle of a field
- 10% the same establishing shot of Langley
- 4% whiny useless white guys
- 1% Ape vs Monster
