i once read scientists stating the ocean's memory lasts 20 years, and more recently how it started to lose its memory. who does the remembrance for you when your personal recollection is engulfed by the collective body of the living who refuses to look at this span getting shorter and shorter? when you look at a photograph and can't tell if it was a farewell or the arrival of something, what you do is to cup the moment, and point at the ocean for people to witness again and again. and within the task of memory, i think it is the only thing that matters.
