Pretty on-par with the first film. I still had the most fun with the second one.

Just really mid overall. I did like the photography aspect of the predictions. There were some good kills in this one, I just wish they would shake things up a little bit with the structure of the plot. I was pretty entertained though.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead outacted everyone within the first 5 minutes. Also Cory Monteith had a blink or you’ll miss it role<3

Edit: the more I think about this, the less I like it. Bumping it down to a 2.

During the first twenty minutes I convinced myself this wasn’t my thing. After that however, it just grew and grew and grew. ‘All That Jazz’ is one of the most unique, innovative films I’ve ever seen. There will never be anything like this.

The storytelling is brilliant and the performances on screen are absolutely mesmerizing. The film consists of perfect scene, after perfect scene, building up to a spectacle of a “curtain call”. While my knowledge of Bob Fosse is pretty limited, this film definitely made a point. A real hard-hitting ion project. The cast is so good, and they convey almost archetypal messages. Of course there is Joe himself. A man married to his work and his purpose, with a crippling addiction behind the scenes and an ashtray for a personality; seeing his life in hindsight takes the viewer on a personal journey. He is shaken as he tries to come to with his own mortality, as is the viewer. Then there are the three women in his life (Audrey, Kate, and his daughter Michelle), through song and dance each of their respective roles are explored.

Some sequences felt so raw and authentic, while the rest felt dreamlike and almost ethereal. The repetitive nature of the downward spiral worked really well — and again I cannot praise the finale enough.

I am completely enamoured with this film. It is ART.

I actually ended up liking this slightly more than the first one.

There are a lot of kooky, eye roll-worthy moments, but this franchise is really entertaining so far. The kills were all pretty cool in this, and they are able to make them sort of unexpected despite the obvious.

And it’s really funny to me how they killed the original main character, Alex, off—in the most whack way possible, off screen.

Mediocre acting aside, I’m having a pretty good time.

I turning ‘Final Destination’ off the first time I tried watching it.

While I think it’s a cool concept, the film really gets an unwarranted rise out of me. I get so frustrated with the way the main character goes about things.
The rest of the film is very fun though. It reaches its final destination, which is ultimately very campy and borderline stupid, with a touch of brilliance and lighting in a bottle — and it (kinda) works.

Also can we talk about how just ONE year later, Ali Larter went from portraying “mousy, reserved weird art, girl” - to serving CUNT in Legally Blonde.

10/10 no notes.

‘Sinners’ was a phenomenal cinematic experience. The soundtrack was heavenly and it was so grand, very, very happy to have caught this in theaters.

Michael B. Jordan showed great range, actually the entire cast was brilliant, the story came across as something haunting and poetic - while still being very refreshing and entertaining - despite integrating loads of classic vampire tropes. The film went in all kinds of different directions and it suited it, I didn’t expect the comedic, “weird” aspects of it, but they were thoroughly appreciated.

This was a wholly new world of African American representation to me. The film really had it all.

I was completely hooked from beginning to end. What was wild to me was, half the theatre left before the credits.

I thought this film would be right up my alley.

It had some fantastic concepts like the tanning bed gag - and some sweet rom-com-ish moments sprinkled throughout.
Also loved the needle drops.

It ended up being just fine. There were some good moments but overall it felt a little bland, sorry. Given the absurd plot, the whole thing felt underutilized, I felt like the film could’ve been taken in a better direction, had they stepped wholly into either the comedy and/or horror genre, instead it settled on a half-baked middle ground. I can appreciate what we got, but I will certainly be a bit critical.

Kathryn Newton was good — and despite the fact that Cole Sprouse’s character didn’t have any actual lines, they had good chemistry.

Initially didn’t think this was going to be my type of film, but I ended up liking it.

I don’t exactly know what to think of the autistic representation, but I liked the storyline with the trauma-bonded father son relationship. That really helped the film in of emotional leverage. Ben Affleck does a good job, and I liked that they explored the theme of autistic people wanting/craving social interactions, but not knowing how to. Rather than the tired (generally false) narrative of genuine apathy towards other people.

J.K Simmons is always great…The flashback scene worked well as a (not too obvious) exposition dump.

The vibrant colors which most of all remind me of ‘Suspiria’ (1977) are such a vibe.

It had some really funny moments, and it was refreshingly self-aware. They did a good job with the horrific side of the “conversion camp-coin”, and it made for some tender moments in the middle of the satirical insanity.

It just had a little too many “in the middle of the road” moments, for me to rate it higher.

The simulation scene had me gagged.

Oooo I liked this quite a lot.

I sort of fear the exact type of man that the character Josh represents in the film. The “good guy” who is actually a self-righteous, borderline sadistic incel hits home in such a scary fashion.

This could’ve just as well been a ‘Black Mirror’ episode, it also kind of reminded me of the game ‘Detroit: Become Human’ which I had a lot of fun playing.

As someone who actually likes the first film more than most. This just didn’t hit the same level as ‘A Simple Favor’. It was nonsensical and the writing was an absolute mess. ‘Mustang’ is probably a film that will stay with me for a long time. In a time of western secularity, this film really puts the traditionalist, conservative approach to the world into perspective. The film establishes the strong sisterly bond very early on, and it’s definitely a hard watch, seeing all those senseless challenges and judgments being thrown upon them - the burden of expectations for young women, rather literal children - the patriarchal system promoting shame and suppression, and so on.

The film reminded me a lot of ‘The Virgin Suicides’, but I actually like this better.

The fact that this was the craziest imaginable scenario within the political world in 2013 is wild. We literally have real life fascist “Waldo” (but worse) in Trump at the moment. I have never been completely sold on ‘Fifteen Million Merits’. The concept of the episode is really great and it touches on so many universal themes of the current stage of technology (or rather that of 2011), which brings me to my next point: it unfortunately already feels very aged. Visually and technology-wise it is indeed very 2010s - although that does have its charms.
The episode even touches on topics such as pretty privilege, the greed of capitalism (and the vast rise in consumerism) and the death of creativity in light of fast-paced, insubstantial “entertainment”.

The acting from Kaluuya is phenomenal, that monologue towards the end is incredible. I also don’t recall this episode to be as dark as it really is.

For a ‘Black Mirror’ episode, ‘The National Anthem’ is quite grounded, although grotesque, it doesn’t introduce ambitious new sci-fi elements. This, specifically is why I think it makes for a great opening episode. I imagine this piqued the interest of many viewers, even if they weren’t sold on the anthology premise of ‘Black Mirror’ - I do to some extent agree that it isn’t exactly representative of what is to come in later episodes.

The contents of ‘The National Anthem’ are absolutely nauseating. It is quite simple structurally, but manages to tell a story of the absurdity and the development of media attention in the era of late modernity.

Not the best ‘Black Mirror’ episode by any means, but it’s good in its own absurd form.

I did think it lacked a bit in the execution department. The film went in so many different directions and the parts of the concept I found interesting were quite underutilized and unexplored e.g. the why and how of the experiment. The film also felt way longer than 100 minutes. A lot happened, but only about half of it was of relevant, entertaining substance.

Hunter Schafer’s acting is terrific. Great role, where the authentic trauma, as well as the emotional growth mixed with the bizarre nature of the story.

That being said, it felt as if every other character except for Gretchen (and at times Alma) were very two dimensional.

I absolutely respect the ambition of the film though.

This was actually so funny, and it really had heart as well. I had never heard of this film before a couple of days ago. It took me three nights to finish because it became my designated “fall-asleep-to” film.

‘Saved!’ genuinely belongs up there with the coming of age/chick flick classics.

Way too many essential characters introduced for the briefest amount of time. I feel like the film would’ve been much more impactful, had they not bitten off more than they could chew. A slower, more focused piece of filmmaking would’ve done the job.

There are a lot of amazing actresses on ‘Bombshell’, that’s definitely something to appreciate. The performances don’t exactly move me unfortunately, although that’s more on the script than the actors. The whole thing felt a bit mismatched, like they didn’t know what film they wanted to make. They wanted to be serious, they wanted to be powerful, they wanted to be “girl power” (in the weird, counterintuitive sense), they wanted to be centrist, and they brought Kate McKinnon into it for comic relief. The whole thing fell flat on several parameters and it became utter wasted potential.

‘Bombshell’ is a film I’m happy was made, but the finished product is just not for me - also I think the current Trump-craze media overload makes this film outdated.

Gotta say kudos to Gretchen Carlson and the other (many) women who spoke up.

What a unique script!! It was reflective, clever, and at times really funny.

‘Heretic’ poses some very interesting philosophical questions regarding religion. The character of Mr. Reed is certainly one of the most peculiar horror villains I’ve seen in a long time.

Despite the beginning of the film suggesting a lighthearted thriller, the second half of the film had me thoroughly disturbed.

Normally people who share the “cynical” views of Mr. Reed are merely playing the devil’s advocate, however the character takes his analogies to the next level. As a through and through atheist, it really made me think.

It’s interesting to me, how Sister Paxton’s faith affects her actions. Her belief is her anchor and her strength. In truth I do think religion, in its purest, most selfless form, is a beautiful thing. The “prayer” monologue at the end of the film, is a very sweet moment.

Adolescence 5dl6v 2025 - ★★★★★ https://letterboxd.sitesdebloques.org/kylledk/film/adolescence-2025/ letterboxd-review-842952792 Sun, 23 Mar 2025 10:12:00 +1300 2025-03-22 No Adolescence 2025 5.0 249042 <![CDATA[

‘Adolescence’ can be such an abstract word. Rather It’s a concept, one that adapts to whatever trends and tendencies are present in the ever-changing society. The series is the most relevant piece of social commentary I have seen in many years.
Social media has brought on-demand reflexivity into our hands. An entire generation has become accustomed to a new playing field, which is actively shaping people through a screen. The world has never been more connected, yet isolated. The older generation can only watch, wondering where it all went wrong.

The thing is. There has always been problems. In EVERY. SINGLE. GENERATION. The real name of the game is acknowledging and recognizing these problems. ‘Adolescence’ deals with the masculine traits, what they are, what they mean, why young boys are attracted to the idea of being masculine, and the way it plays into the male generational trauma. It also deals with the issue surrounding girls humoring these ideologies - and the horrible fact that the gender “war” can end with something as devastatingly meaningless as murder. It’s a terrifying thing to portray through the eyes of literal children (WHICH is why it is SO important).

The series has some very interesting focal points throughout. The three immediate parameters within an environment which shapes young minds: school, family, and the societal norms. Immediate community has somewhat been replaced by algorithms and random people on the internet - in ‘Adolescence’ we see the consequences there of.

The series also covers the highly criticizable system, which focuses on saving money rather than rehabilitating the people within the system. The entire third episode is basically one conversation between Jamie and a psychologist. It’s absolutely gutting seeing him form a connection, only for her job to be over. He may never regain that trust with a “trusted” adult again.

The thing is. The way we’re molded cannot be condensed into one single factor. That especially was well-explained in ‘Adolescence’.

The acting is wonderful. Owen Cooper and Stephen Graham (notably, although everyone are absolutely incredible) deliver some of the best acting I’ve ever seen.

Biggest recommendation in a long time.

Really atmospheric and gripping. I wish it would’ve crossed into the gory realm more, but the psychological horror was really effective.

I really liked the plot, but it felt like it was edging towards a climax of the big kind, but it just didn’t. I did like the ending tho.

The film has a LOT of potential. Much of it is fulfilled, but I feel like they could’ve gone the extra mile.

The directing was great and I loved the cinematography and editing. Oz Perkins is horror nepo-royalty.

Spontaneously watched this with a friend. Both David and Benji were really well written and well acted. The contrast between their personalities and circumstances was conveyed gorgeously.

The pacing felt a little off, although I liked the structural symmetry in the storytelling. Literally starting and ending on the same shot, but with the entire story sandwiched in between, making you acutely aware of everything you just witnessed.

I totally understand why Kieran Culkin won that Oscar.

Cool performance by Glen Powell. I wasn’t a fan of the film itself however.

Linklater has a way of writing actual interesting conversations into his films, for example the scene outside the university with Gary and his ex wife. The whole “can people change” topic really set the scene for some compelling character development, but they leaned too heavily into the comedic shtick for my liking. Furthermore, the jokes just didn’t land. There were a couple of funny moments as Gary invented, and presented as, the different hit men, but that’s about it. Gary’s colleagues were written primarily as comic relief, but they weren’t funny to be honest.

The romance didn’t hit either. It became repetitive really quickly, and save for the first scene in the café, it was superficial and uninteresting.

Not my cup of tea.

Adam Brody is nothing short of terrific in ‘The Kid Detective’. The premise is great, sort of as if a lighthearted children’s film continued into adulthood. I went into this completely blind and expected it to just be lighthearted. I was actually deeply moved by the depth of Abe Applebaum as a character. The feeling of lost momentum, wasted potential and general failure is universal and in this film, it really hit home.

The humor was dry, the characters, especially Abe, were well written, and the story had expanded tenfold by the time I was sobbing to ‘Sugartown’ as the credits started rolling. (I love a recurring needle drop btw).

The story wasn’t too bad either. The mystery grew throughout the runtime and so did the stakes. I ended up being really invested, and the ending pretty much wrecked me.

The thing is, I actually think ‘Climax’ is a very good film. The other thing is, I never want to see it again.

The latter half of the film was a nightmare-ish, hellish fever dream. The part with the kid in the electrical room fucked me up. Constant screaming, harrowing music and visceral despair for most of the runtime…It genuinely felt like I was going insane.

Filmmaking-wise it’s really solid. The lighting and angles really delivered and topped off the nauseating atmosphere. Sofia Boutella acted her ass off honestly! Certified scream queen.

This was bordering on “too much” for me. I have no clue why I thought it’d be a good idea to watch this on a random Wednesday.

The Little Ms. Perfect, himbo and hopeless lesbian dynamic could’ve been so fun. Everything just fell short. Nevertheless, I much prefer this election to the actual current affairs going on, on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.

Matthew Broderick’s character in this film is so goddamn punchable. I was about to throw hands.

Really cool editing. The film isn’t really what I expected, but I like it. Stylistically I want to give this a near perfect rating, but the remaining content doesn’t really allow it.

I immediately thought ‘Natural Born Killers’ seemed very Tarantino-esque, so I wasn’t particularly surprised when his name showed up in the credits.

Great performances. Woody Harrelson has such a unique, captivating aura about him. He plays off the nihilistic killer, super well. Juliette Lewis and Robert Downey Jr. are really good too.
For Juliette I can definitely tell that Sophie Thatcher used some of this film for reference, when playing young Natalie Scatorccio on ‘Yellowjackets’.

I didn’t expect this film to be as funny as it was. The absurdity really got to me.

‘The Brutalist’ is a grandiose, ambitious film, while also representing one of the most modest architectural styles. Just like the buildings Lázsló creates, his story is ultimately condensed into a single punchline “they are”.

The first half of the film moved me deeply (Adrien Brody is a phenomenal crier). The pacing was perfect and the plot was moving steadily. The second half just didn’t pack the punch I’d wanted. It felt as if the first half was a harmonious balance between Lázsló and his art. The second half lacked the crucial element of Lázsló’s artistic vision falling victim to his circumstances.

Speaking of the destructive factor in the film, Harrison is a man who gives and takes as he likes, because he can. The cruel push and pull mechanism is well executed to be honest.

The acting is great from everyone - and the film hits the mark visually and sonically. Even though I wasn’t satisfied with the entire film, mostly because of the unfulfilled promise of the first half, it’s still well balanced and well-made. I must say I wasn’t the biggest fan of the ending.

Also have to say. The film massively benefited from being watched in a theatre.

‘Heathers’ has some of the most incredible, deadpan, campy lines in cinema history.

I just gotta love it for what it is. The dark humor is fucking hilarious and completely understated, while also being so wildly “out there” and satirical. Can’t imagine how this was received during the satanic panic of the 80s, which it so brilliantly commentated.

I’m still not completely sold on the structure of the film, maybe that’s because I’m more familiar with the musical. The film sort of starts in medias res, which neglects some important characterization in my opinion. Alas it isn’t all that important. I had (big) fun, which is all that matters.

Winona Ryder killed as Veronica. Literally and figuratively.
