I was never the hugest fan of this series but this did what it needed to do. The opening sets the bar a little too high and the rest of the film never quite matches it. I did not care about any of the characters, but I’m not sure this series works if you do. Is the appearance of the late, great [redacted] in one scene supposed to be a surprise? Speaking of setting the bar high: suddenly there’s a reminder of what honest-to-goodness acting looks like.

From Dusk Till Dawn

Hmm… In my memory this was an OK Tarantino-scripted crime film interrupted by an unimaginative vampire movie. Now it looks like the worst thing Tarantino’s ever written until it eventually transforms into a lively horror movie with a lot of gnarly effects. Did the movie change or did I?

Perfect movie for eight-year-olds who are also college students.

The strange story of a nice Jewish girl in the early 1960s who meets a working class time traveler from the 1980s whose amazing hair and MTV-influenced dance moves bewitch the Catskills resort where she's vacationing with her father, a famous New York homicide detective, and mother, who will later become an easily offended Connecticut socialite with a fondness for martinis. By the end, everyone is so enamored of him that they don't even notice when he puts on a 45 and the synth-laden sounds of late '80s adult contemporary pop come piping out of the speakers.
