An elegantly stylish crime-thriller that plays on the revenge film genre. There’s much to be enthralled by throughout it’s relatively short runtime of 1 hour 25 mins, owing to untrustworthy characters, and an intriguing overarching plot with a few misdirections, exploring the futility and morally dubious act of revenge as a whole.
‘The Serpent’s Path’ is a jolting examination into the human psyche executed in minimalist fashion, and is an exceptional addition to Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s earlier filmography.
